Chapter 06: Small Skirmish

A few minutes earlier.

The angel reported the scene to headquarters before flying to fight the devils that trespassed on angel territory and was immediately got confronted by the werewolf devil.

The angel quickly made a spear of light using holy and light magic and swung it to block the incoming claw slash to his right side of his body.A small shockwave erupted from the two strikes colliding.

Both parties were blown a fwe meters away from each other flapping their wings to stabilize themselves in midair.

The angel looked at the werewolf devil infront of him, the high class devil and his aid behind him quite the distance away and the fleeing woman going to who knows where. The angel figured out instantly that these devils where chasing the woman.

"Why do you chase that woman?."the angel spoke calmly at the devil flying infront of him but the werewolf didn't respond and bared its fangs at the angel also coating its claws with demonic/devil aura( A/N: Which term should I use demonic or devil).

Seeing that talking is futile the angel flared his wings and got in his battle stance. The two flew to each other with incredible speed as the entered their mortal combat.

After Naberius gave his female knight orders to capture the woman. He looked at the fight above and grew impatient at the fight that was below his level. And what fuelled his anger is that his experiment was losing to the angel and bad at that.

In this battle the angel had multiple advantages in its favour. First it had more midair combat experience over the werewolf devil . The angel flew flexibly around thrusting and slashing at the defensive wolf which could not keep up in the air.

Everytime the werewolf tried to make its move the angel would block all attempts of a counter attack with his spear of light. The angel also made use of its majestic wings to slap the wolf, block its field of view before attacking and striking its bat wings causing it to lose balance.

The other advantage was that devils were weak against holy and light magic. Just a mere scratch can cause agonizing pain to a devil also it was a debuff effect for them too.As the fight got longer the devil got progressively weaker. The angel was poised to send the finishing blow at the enemy of God.

"Tsk. Useless mongrel, you go help help that dog and make it quick."Naberius clicked his tongue before giving the male devil knight an order.He had grown to impatient and he already got enough data to make necessary adjustments to his experiments.

The male devil knight flew quickly at the angel in the sky.He drew his broad sword from its sheath covered himself in devil aura and confronted the angel before it made its final move. The devil knight sent a fury of slashes at the angel. The angel stopped what it was doing to evade the incoming attacks.

The angel eyed its new opponent deducting that this new adversary was at the same level or higher that it. The devil knight didn't let up its assault and continued chasing the angel. Since the male devil knight was a natural born devil it had better experience in midair combat over the experimental wolf. 

The fight grew more intense as both parties fought with everything they had into it. If it wasn't for the barrier that blocks sound the residents of the village would have been woken up by the sound of the battle above.

'Stop dawdling and go help kill that angel.'Naberius sent a telepathic message at the werewolf. 'Yes my Lord'the wolf responded.

Though it was still feeling the pain and fatigue from the earlier fight it enter the fray and made the one v one into a jumping. Though it didn't help much the devil knight was doing 90 percent of the work but it was still taxing on the angel two multitask on two opponents.

The angel felt compelled to strike down the werewolf an ease the work. But it knew that once it focused on the wolf the knight would find an opening and deliver a killing blow and if it focused to much on the devil knight the wolf would throw a wrench in its plan.

It formalized a plan and thought about it for a few seconds before deciding. The angel seemingly focussed 90 percent of it attention while keeping in mind the werewolf. The werewolf devil saw this and made its move flying directly behind the angel , it burst forth intending to slash at it with its claws.

The angel fought off the devil knight by throwing its spear with all its strength. The spear flew straight and true, the devil knight tried to dodge but it was to late to do so he settled with blocking the spear.He tried to block but it only caused the spear to swerve a bit to his left side, he used all of his devil aura to block but it pierced throw it armour and all. The spear continued in its path taking him with it.

Back at the angel it knew that the werewolf devil was coming at it from behind. The angel acted like it didn't know and positioned his wings to block the werewolf's view of the angel's hands.

The angel mustered what little holy magic it had to it's finger. Just as the werewolf reached the angel a beam of light shot out from a hole in the angel's left wing tearing through the devil skull and brain.Blood spewed out from two places, from the hole in the angels wing and the hole in werewolf's head.

The werewolf fell down onto the field on the ground brain matter coming out from its head.The angel was panting for breath tired from the intense fight it's wing was twitching from the pain of the hole. Blood was flowing from it staining the white feathers.'A necessary sacrifice' the angel thought while using holy magic to stop the bleeding trying to grasp it's position.

The angel looked around the village, it looked at the High Class devil looking at it with a hateful glare, the woman on the ground who was enveloped in some strange energy making a hand sign and the female devil knight who was roughly as powerful as the male counterpart."Wait where did he go?." The angel muttered to himself looking around for the armoured devil.

The male devil knight was nowhere to be seen.This was very concerning for the angel, it extended its senses to the max trying to find the devil. A glint of light flashed from the corner of its eyes, after registering it the angel quickly tried to make another spear of light but it was taking too long it decided to dodge the incoming attack.

In that moment.

The devil knight was hiding on one of the houses charging his sword with his devil aura. Blood was flowing profusely from the gaping hole in his hole in his shoulder. He didn't even try to stop the bleeding because his he had just received a telepathic message from his Lord telling him to kill the angel now matter what.

Once he had decided that this was enough devil aura he poised his to throw the sword at the fleeing angel.He breathed deeply and threw the sword with all the force in his body. The sword flew at a blinding speed at the angel.

The angel tried to dodge the incoming attack by flying in a zigzag pattern but the sword followed the angel in every turn getting closer and closer like a pest. The angel decided to stop running because it was futile and use the half formed spear.The angel swung the light weapon at the sword but it was futile. The spear was destroyed an the sword pierced through the angel's heart killing it.

"I'm sorry father."the angel said before falling to the ground dead.The devil looked at its opponent before returning to its Lord side. Naberius didn't say anything and looked at his other attendant who was also done with capturing the woman and was going to get the baby too.

Just as she was about to take the baby a spear of light was thrown from the sky and nearly hit her. She emidiatly jumped back and looked at the sky above and the sight caused her face to turn pale.

What she saw was a squadron of angels bathed in golden light. And one of those angel had 12 wings coming from her back.

"Hmmm.Who would've thought they'd send a Seraph to this back street village, is my my presence that impressive." Said the 6 winged Naberius arrogantly.

The blonde Seraph looked around and saw the dead angel with a sword embedded in its chest lying on a root of a near by building. The Seraph felt a pang of sorrow come from her heart but she couldn't find it in her heart to hate the devils that declared war against them.

The name of this Seraph is Gabriel.She had golden blonde curly hair, fair skin without any blemish to be seen. Deep blue eyes that were pure of any negative emotion. She also wore a battle regalia that shined and shimmered in a golden radiance.

The female knight quickly ran away leaving the crying baby, she already got her target so why should she go get a useless baby and risk receiving divine judgment.She got back to her master's side and bowed respectively.

Gabriel's right hand and the one who threw the spear and female angel with came forward and spoke." Lady Gabriel shall we capture these devils for questioning." she knew that the Seraph didn't like conflicts so she recommended an option.

"Do what you must." Gabriel spoke nonchalantly while looking curiously at the bundle of cloth next to the hole where the spear of light struck. 

"Yes my Lady." The female angel spoke before commanding the squadron to engage the trio of devils she didn't inquire any longer already knew that her lady was a pacifist . If it was just any other devil they would send a normal squadron, but it was a patriarch of one of the 72 pillars of the Underworld.This was a cause for concern.

"You will sacrifice yourself for me." Naberius spoke coldly locking eyes directly at the male devil knight."You will buy time for use to use a teleportation circle to escape, consider it an honour to die for one of the pillars." He added infusing his devil aura into his words compelling the on hearing thoes words.

The devil felt a cold sweat running down his back. It had two options do what its master was telling him and get struck down immediately by the angels or defy his order and risk possible torture and a painfull death like his many tesr subjects. In that spit second the devil felt like eternity had passed for the devil.

It made its choice. "As you wish my Lord."it said with an expressionless face before going.

Authors Corner: R.I.P Random Angel survived a jumping or so he thought. So how was my character of Gabriel. I tried to capture her kindness here.
