Whispers of Life

The ambulance had been driving for a few minutes now. The paramedics in the ambulance were staring at Thomas more confused than before. One, the man who talked to Thomas earlier, was trying to look away while the other, a female paramedic, couldn't help but stare. Thomas was still in shock from hearing that voice.

"What is going on? Is this real?" Thomas questioned out loud, hoping that this was all some nightmare.

When the paramedics heard him speak they seemed to be broken out of a trance. They both seemed at a loss for words. After a minute one of them finally said something.

"Sir, I'm not sure how this is possible. I myself have no idea how you're alive." The female paramedic said, terrified of the gruesome sight before her.

"There's no way you should even be alive right now. You're split in two yet here you are wide awake." The male paramedic said, seeming more confused than scared.

For a while they all sat in silence. As they were approaching the hospital, Thomas felt a strange rush of blood in his body. He felt like there was something where his legs should be. It felt like his legs were still connected to him. Then the passengers of the ambulance were left in awe as the strangest thing started to occur. Thomas's lower half started moving closer to him on the gurney.

"What the hell?" Thomas mumbled to himself. "Do you all see that?"

The paramedics noticed Thomas's lower half was moving. They were mortified by the sight.

"What? How is that…?" The male paramedic said.

"Am I going crazy?" The female paramedic said hysterically.

After a couple seconds the entire lower half of Thomas's body was right next to my upper half. Then he felt that strange feeling go away. In its place was the feeling of his lower half. He was able to move his leg a bit. Nobody understood what was happening. Thomas's legs seemed to be reconnecting with his upper body.

"I can feel my legs" Thomas screamed in confusion, and a feeling of relief.

All of a sudden Thomas felt something enter his stomach. It felt as if something was crawling into his upper body. He saw what looked like an organ slowly moving out of his lower half into his upper half. Then with it came his lower half.

"What the…oh my god." Thomas muttered in complete shock.

Then Thomas's lower half seemed to move right against his upper half and seemed to glue itself together. He had full control over his legs again. He felt weird sensations in his stomach as well. As if the organs that had been damaged or lost had been returning to perfect condition.

"My legs. I can feel my legs! My body is back together." Thomas said not believing any of this was real.

"Maria, are you seeing this? Please tell me I'm not going insane." Said the male paramedic.

"I see it Michael, I see it." Maria responded, in a state of complete shock.

By the time they arrived at the hospital there was complete silence. Thomas had been completely healed from head to toe. Thomas rushed out of the ambulance along with the paramedics and was able to walk just fine. There was no sign of any injury other than the blood stains on his clothes.

"Should we take you in?" Asked Maria in a concerned but still fearful voice.

"He seems to be fixed up already. Do you think you want to see a doctor?" Michael asked, more confused than ever.

"I don't know to be honest. I don't have any cuts or bruises anywhere. I feel like I should just leave." Thomas questioned everything that had happened up to now.

Then Thomas felt a cold chill down his spine. As if there was someone behind him breathing down his neck. Thomas looked but saw nobody behind him. Despite there being no one there he still felt as if someone was near.

"Return home Thomas. Only then will you get your answers."

The voice was familiar to Thomas. It was the same voice he heard when he first woke up from the accident. "Who or what was it? And why does it know my name?" Thomas wondered.

"Did you two hear that?" He asked the paramedics hoping they had.

"Heard what?" Asked Michael.

"What are you talking about?" Maria asked me.

"That voice just now. Did you two hear it speak to me just now?"

The paramedics both looked at him with concern. They both thought Thomas was delusional.

"Don't waste your time with them Thomas. If you seek an explanation you'll find it at your home."

The voice was heard again. It was a cold, dark whisper.

"What is that? Who is that? Why do I need to go home? Did you hear it that time either?" Thomas asked with great fear. He has begun to think he lost his mind.

"What voice are you talking about? There's nobody else here." Maria responded.

"Are you ok sir? Do you need to maybe sit down?" Michael asked, seeming less scared and more concerned for me.

"I said stop wasting your time. It's late Thomas. Go home and get some sleep. You'll get your answers in the morning."

The voice seemed agitated. Thomas decided to listen to the voice instead of angering it further. He started walking away from the hospital looking for a bus stop.

"Where are you going?" Maria yelled out as I walked away.

"I'm going home. I'm tired and need to sleep." Thomas said, starting to run away.

He approached a nearby bus stop and waited for a bus to appear. Eventually, one did. Thomas was very tired and wanted nothing more than to lay down and go to sleep. He silently decided that he wouldn't come into work tomorrow, and would just call in sick again.
