Chapter 98. Unlucky

"Trust me in this one though. I bet the two of us can take down a ninth stage beast if we don't give it our all and... Fvck," Alaric cursed. What the hell? How had miscalculated that one?

Whatever he meant was a tenth stage Cryptic Plane beast not a Master Plane beast. He had confused that. His mind had somehow thought that a beasts proceeded to the next level after reaching the tenth stage.

That was a big mistake for someone who claimed a 100% fully awakened mind. The fact that he could split his mind 16x yet he miscalculated was a shame not a mistake.

"What? Is something wrong?" She asked.

"What I wanted you to help me was to fight a ninth stage beast not a Master Plane beast," he said and scratched his head with a self depreciating smile.

"And why do you think we can? As I said, the beast I can manage is a seventh stage Cryptic Plane beast," she said.

"With our efforts combined, we can take down an eighth stage beast if we go almost all out but I have a feeling that if we go all out, we can kill a ninth stage beast," he said as a matter of factly.

The girl sighed. Just who did he think that he was? Also she knew very well that his judgement was spot on. If he had that much confidence in himself, she had much more confidence in herself that she could beat him.

"I agree with you but I have a feeling that you have something urgent that you must do... Why do you insist on wasting time? The other day you kept mumbling Aurora. Should you not be out there rescuing her or whatever is happening?" She asked.

Alaric paused and gave her a deathly glare. But it disappeared as soon as it appeared.

" Yeah, you are right but have you ever heard of gut feeling? I have a feeling that this is what I must do before I go to find her. Just help me this once and I will be indebted to you in the future," he said seriously.

He also did not have an answer as to why he wanted to hunt first before he could go find Aurora. It truly was a gut feeling. He looked at her and he could sense the smile that appeared on her lips. She was kind of weird though.

"Just this once." She said.

"Yeah. After the hunt, I will leave you. Make sure you get back safe," he said like he was protecting her currently.

The rest of the journey went quietly. They did not encounter any beast because of the treasure. Alaric knew that the treasure was a top tier one. But she suddenly asked a question that made him laugh.

"What treasure is that that you were using to emit that power?" She asked. Alaric laughed hard that it turned hysterical. He had not been planning on laughing because he wanted to show he was serious because Aurora was gone but her question...

He even bent and held his stomach. His laugh turned out uncomfortable but he soon quietened.

" What's so funny about that?" She asked.

" You guys have so much faith in treasures that you even use them to gauge someone's background. The problem with this approach is that there are certain anomalies such as me that are not dependent on treasures at all and use our own abilities. If you had a little faith in your abilities, probably you could get further with your cultivation," Alaric lectured rather than answering her but his answer was in between those many words.

Again she was silent. He was spot on with his judgement again. She was also perceptive but she had met her match. He could easily see through her despite the fact that she was the one with the ability to do so.

Also from her ability, she could tell that none of his words were a lie. She just nodded half believing that that was part of his power. But she had a reason for her other half to believe.

They were moving fast between the trees. She could tell that she was probably slowing him down but he did not voice it out. Instead she followed him silently until they reached the zones of beasts in the ninth stage.

She deactivated the treasure and let their aura spread. They walked side by side searching for a perfect beast. They encountered some but they scared them away until they found one.

It was a deer. It was three meters tall and four meters long. It was one meter wide. It had yellow eyes and its horns had several branches. Its tail was short and it was facing away from them.

It was still cutting the grass when it sensed them. It grew alert and raised its head to look at them. It despised them from the very moment it landed it's eyes on them.

All it saw were mere humans trying to bite more than their mouths could chew. Seeing that they did not run away after sensing that they were in the wrong regions, it decided to finish them at a go.

This deer was wind affiliated. It knew that just a casual attack was enough to kill them. It opened its mouth and produced a sound like the bubbling of water. Its horns started shaking but it was just that the wind coming from them made them appear to be shaking.

The wind started off soft but in few seconds, it had turned rough and it was heading to be called a storm. The nearby trees shook and some branches were blown away.

It was impossible for beast in a region to cause much damage to its surrounding unless it was about to break through. This was because these regions had the ability to withstand attacks of beast of the same level or below.

Seeing the trees shaking violently and some branches being broken and blown away was obvious to them what was happening. They had chosen the wrong beast!

They glanced at each other as if asking what to do next but they only nodded and came to an agreement but the next instant made them look at each other and shake their heads.

The beast was breaking through before the battle started. This was to mean they had to choose to find another ninth stage beast or fight a tenth stage beast. Not forgeting that they were in the sixth stage.

They shook their heads once then twice then nodded. It was decided upon. They were not changing their target. They were both blocking the wind from blowing their face with their elbows on their face.

They waited for a while and in twenty minutes, the deer had broken through. It had a proud look in its eyes which turned sour when it saw that the ants were still standing there waiting for it to break through

Had it been a beast or a logical human, they would have fled already when it was breaking through. Especially if it was taking that long. But the two non sensitive humans had not. It could not help but get irritated.

It started producing the sounds again and a calm wind that became rough started blowing from its horns. The trees were agitated as they bent side ways.

The two did not even bother to defemd against the attacks as the grossed over them. The deer had an angry and disbelieving look. It was proud that it had broken through but these humans acted as though they were unfazed by its powers.

Even if it could not count, it could tell that they were far weaker than it with almost a half! Angrily, it sent six wind blades that sliced through the air at them. It had resumed its proud posture.

Seeing the deer finally make an atack, they both acted. Alaric was about to use his wind to fight back but she was fast than him and sent fireballs at the incoming blades.

Alaric shivered for he could feel their heat despite the fact that they had separated from each other by five meters. He could not help but take a second glance at her. He must have underestimated her too much.

There was an explosion midway as the attacks collided. But the fire balls were sliced into two and dissipated. Alaric quickly created a wind shield infront of them and braced himself for the impact.

But who could have guessed that this was the power of a tenth stage? The wind shield was sliced and dissipated just like the fireballs. They were blown away by the after effect and rolled meters away.

Luckily they had evaded the attacks. Or say, they had been blown off the trajectory. The wind blades ended up slicing a few trees and branches and dissipate. The two looked at each other and a cold sweat trickled down their spine.

Maybe they should have ran...
