Memorable Date

Two weeks later, while Adeline was taking a walk at a nearby mall, she saw Jacob lurking around a corner, so she decided to go to him and ask what he was hiding from.

"You look like a robber you know," Adeline said as she removed Jacob's cap.

Jacob removed his shades. "How did you recognize me? Was it really look that obvious?"

"Just by the way how you act, you'll really get people's attention."

"Anyway, what brings you here? Shopping for more clothes?"

Adeline folded her arms as she raised her right eyebrow. "Shouldn't I be the one asking you that? Who are you hiding from?"

Jacob scratched his head. "Well, my mom arranged a blind date for me and you know that—"

"You like Molly."

"What-What are you talking about?"

"Nicholas told me everything. If you like her, just go and tell her."

"Are you out of your mind? Molly and I aren't even friends."

Adeline smiled. "I'll help you out if you out if you answer some questions about Nicholas."

Jacob sighed, "You know I can't—"

"Take it or leave it."

As soon as Jacob agreed, Adeline decided to bring him to a nearby cafe and treat him some pastries.

Jacob looked at the ten different pastries that were on the table. "Adeline, don't you think you ordered too much?"

"As long as it makes you have the energy to talk, I can give you more." Adeline leaned back on her chair.

"Okay, so where do we start...?"

"I know I've already asked you this, but do you think Nicholas likes me?"

"Only Nicholas himself knows the answer to that, but in my opinion, I think he treats you as a sister. I'm sorry, Adele."

Adeline took a deep breath. "Don't apologize. As his roommate, you're just telling me what you've observed right?"

Jacob simultaneously looked at the ground and nodded. "Although we're not certain if he likes you, I can assure you that he doesn't seem to have anyone in his heart yet."

"You do know the rumor about Nicholas having someone he likes, am I right?"

"I can tell you that Nicholas doesn't have his eyes on anyone as of now. I'm not telling you this because I want to give you hope, I'm just making things clear so there's no misunderstanding between you and him."

For a few seconds, Adeline just stared at him in stupefaction. She then smiled and gave him a ticket to a movie. "You'll meet her tonight at eight."

Jacob stood up. "Is that it? Aren't you gonna ask me for help?"

Adeline laughed as she patted Jacob's arm. "Why would I make such an effort? Now's not the time to ponder about these things."

"You don't have to act so strong you know. Although we have different experiences, I can tell that you're heart's breaking inside."

"You're not wrong, but sometimes it's better to keep the sadness inside instead of letting it all out."

(At the girl's dorm)

"You want me to meet up with Jacob?" Molly's eyes widened as she pointed at herself.

"I promised to watch a movie with him, but I can't go," Adeline lied.

"Why can't Abigail just do it?"

"You know I rarely go out and I need to finish my report," Abigail said as she continued typing on her computer.

Adeline gave Molly a hug. "Take it as a favor. He's waiting."

Molly took a deep breath. "Okay, fine. Don't forget that you owe me."

When Molly arrived at the Cinema, she saw Jacob sitting in the front row. She then fixed her hair and sat beside him. "So what's the genre of this movie?"

As soon as Molly sat beside Jacob, his heart started pounding. He wanted to sit closer to her, but hesitated.

"I-I think it's a mix of action and romance."

"This movie's pretty good," Molly said as she started chewing her popcorn.

Jacob looked away. "Yeah, it is."

"I'm sorry if I'm the one who came instead of Adeline, she was—"

"No, it's fine. Hanging out with you isn't that bad too."

"Shall we enjoy the movie then?" Molly offered him some of her popcorn.

Jacob nodded. "Thanks."
