Let You Go

When Adeline got back to the dorm, she saw Molly and Abigail sitting on the couch waiting for her to come back. Usually Abigail would be cooking, while Molly would be telling some sarcastic jokes, but this time it was different.

"Why's everyone so silent?" Adeline forced a smile as she slowly removed her coat.

Molly stood up and hugged her. "We know everything, Adeline. I'm sorry that we weren't able to—"

"Why would I put the blame on you? I know that you guys were just trying to help."

"If only we were able to stop Nicholas, then you wouldn't be feeling this way now."

"No matter how much heartbreaking it was to hear him say that, I'm glad that he still told me."

Abigail looked at the ground. "Nicholas was such a fool for telling you that."

Adeline laughed. "Where's the noodles I requested?"

"I-I thought that you—"

"Let's just forget about it for tonight."

Ever since that day on, with the help of Jacob, Abigail and Molly, Adeline's feelings for Nicholas started fading away. Over the summer, they'd bring her to exotic places just to help distract her from thinking about him. Even though they all spent their break in the dorm, she rarely contacted him and started focusing on her career in the future. Until one day, Nicholas called asking her if she and her roommates were available for the next few days. Adeline wanted to refuse, but Abigail told her that she had to get used to seeing him since their senior year was about to start.

"You just wanna go since Peter's coming." Adeline glared.

Abigail simultaneously scratched her head and gave her an obnoxious smile. "I admit that I do have a small crush on him, but I'm telling you this for your own sake."

"I'm not in the mood to talk to Nicholas. I'm pretty sure Ella's coming with us too."

"Get over it, Adele. For the past five weeks, we've been bringing you to different places. Pessimism will just destroy your life. It won't hurt to sacrifice some of your time."

"I'll think about it."

Molly stood up from her bed. "I'm calling Jacob if you don't make up your mind within a minute."

Adeline shouted, "Molly! You know I'm not—"

"It's either you go him or you go with me."

Adeline folded her arms. "Does that make a difference? You're just heading to the same place."

"That's the point, so your only choice is to go."

"What happens if I don't?"

Abigail giggled. "She'll bring her pet lizard here and it'll scare you off this room."

Molly nodded. "Tell him that we're all available the day after tomorrow."

Adeline sighed, "But you know—"

Before she was even able to protest, her phone suddenly rang which made her heart rose to her throat. She then darted across the room as she grasped her phone and answered the call.

"Adele, you there?"

Hearing her name, her heart skipped a beat. Like echoes across a canyon, the familiar voice reverberated through the line. "Hello?"

"Ah, Nic! What's the matter?" Adeline crumbled into her chair, clutching her clothes to calm the thudding that felt as if it would break her ribs.

"I was gonna ask you if you guys have made a decision already," Nicholas responded.

"Oh that! Well, umm..."

Molly then glared at Adeline, waiting for her to give a response.

"We're going to a resort. You sure you haven't made up your mind yet?" Nicholas giggled. "You don't have to worry about your safety. Peter's father owns it."

As soon as Abigail heard that, she instantaneously sat down beside Adeline, pinched her arm, and whispered, "Adele, please!"

Nicholas asked, "Adele? Have you guys decided?"

Adeline took a deep breath. "We're coming."
