Chapter 11 (Jake POV)

"Thank you" said Jake again as he saw Allan past the street.

Jake really have had it rough these days. After his girlfriend Susan stole his mother´s ring all went downhill for Jake´s life.

Jake knows how much trouble he will have if he didn´t get the ring back from Susan.

Luckily his parents were on vacations on a tour for Europe and his mother didn´t want to bring the ring with her for fear of losing it, so he still had until the next week to retrieve it.

After searching for half city for Susan for hours he found her spending money as if there was no tomorrow, when Jake saw he like that he knew that things will be difficult.

The worst part was that the instant Susan saw him, instead of panic or try to lie she smirked and started to speak about how much she had to endure being with a guy like me and that he should be grateful for taking that old ring and give it a good use.

With each word Jake felt his blood rising, only now he realized that he was truly blind to date some like that!!

Still, it was pure luck that he didn´t lash out to her and start making a scene, no, the stage was her all for her.

When the cops arrived seeing the multitude Susan tried get out of there with a smile, but what she didn´t expect, neither Jake, was that people started to record the fight since the beginning. When the police arrived, a passerby explained the situation a gave the recordings to the police.

Next thing Susan knew was that she was being carried to the police station.

All ire Jake carried was washed away and Jake started worrying about the ring again.

The police helped Jake to search where could be the missing ring, and after searching for the other half of the city they found it at a pawn shop.

Sadly, the owner didn´t wanted to give the ring without getting the money for it.

The police couldn´t do anything about it, the owner had done a legal transaction he had the right to sell the ring, and they couldn´t return the clothes, shoes and cheap jewelry because they were evidences about what Susan had done, they would be given in a few weeks.

Jake convinced the owner to not dell the ring to anyone but him, bit he needed the money, so he could only ask his friends with the promise that he would return it as soon as he can.

And that moment was when Jake´s problems truly began.

At first they were things like `sure, wait a few days´ or ´At the moment I don´t have money with me, wait until I go to the bank´, but the says passed and the same people changed their answers to ´Sorry, I can´t give you anything´ or ´Stop brothering, don´t call me anymore.

Jake couldn´t believe it, these were his friends for years and they weren´t going to spare a penny to help him!!!

If that was a normal ring it wouldn´t be much of a problem, maybe his mother wouldn´t notice that it has disappeared until he gets it back, even if she notices it, Jake only has to say that he doesn´t know anything and the ring `magically` would appear later, but it wasn´t.

The ring Susan stole was her engagement ring, it was the first ring Jake´s father gave her and he had to work for months to buy it, and more months to gather the valor to ask his mother to marry him, it was her favorite and she always knows where it is, even if she doesn´t wear the ring anymore.

Still, Jake didn´t give up a continued making calls and his contact list went down and down.

After two days Jake´s list was nearly completely revised and he still needed four hundred dollars.

These days Jake didn´t sleep well, his dreams were about getting rejected and being given lies. The ring wasn´t important anymore, now Jake wanted to know who were his friends and who were only good times friends.

And so arrived Allan´s turn, imagine his surprise when Allan agreed to lend him the rest of the money!!!

Jake knew Allan didn´t had much money after his last purchase, a second-hand old model capsule from a discontinued game, not the best election to buy for yourself or anyone, still that had left Allan´s bank account nearly empty.

What Allan didn´t know was that Jake was in front of his apartment, he had grown tired of the excuses people gave him, so after the call he always went in person to confront the people who gave him false promises.

So, when Allan got out of his apartment after he agreed to Jake got scared and hid.

The next thing that Jake saw would remain forever a secret only to himself.

When he saw Allan enter with his laptop in one of the pawn shops that Jake had visited a few days ago and went out in the direction of the place where they will meet without it Jake couldn't believe it.

Jake ran to the meeting place but his brin wasn´t thinking about anything, it was still processing the scene that saw.

It was only when he had the money in the hand and Allan was gone that he cried.

He cried in the middle of one of his favorite pubs when a lot of people who know him seeing him cry.

From his hundreds long contact list less than ten lend him money, and only Allan did something like that.

It was in that second that he knew what he had; he had a true friend.

After Jake stopped crying, he lifted his head a made a decision, he would pay him, he would be a true friend for him.

Jake stood up from his seat, looked at his phone and deleted his contact list, only leaving less than ten names.

Jake looked in the direction that Allan disappeared and muttered so quietly that only he heard it:

"Idle online"
