In the novel [Endless Love] there would be a rare occurrence in the duke's estate that will make the duke come here flying. And that occurrence is the appearance of a legendary beast.
The legendary beast was a beast that was so rare to see and find that if you are extremely lucky you could get a glimpse of it once in your lifetime. And that's not all, legendary beasts are extremely smart and wise that you could get enlightened by just a few of its words. Their smart and witty nature was also the reason why they were able to live long and become powerful. They are also extremely loved by nature and mana aside from dragons and could cast powerful spells in an extremely short amount of time. That is how scary they are.
And a young corpse of that beast is found near the garden of the duke's estate. Because of this, the kingdom has gone wild and immediately took the corpse and researched it. After that, they put the bones in the treasury as the nation's most beloved treasure.
It is also because of this that the other kingdoms became tempted to conquer Reece's kingdom and steal the treasure. That is also one of the reasons why the evil archmage, Ash, opened the portal to the demon world in the Reece kingdom so he could steal the bones and transform them into a monster later on and that monster will play a big role to destroy the kingdoms in the continent.
'And I don't want that to happen... I'm gonna save it, use it to my advantage, and prevent the worsening of the destruction of the kingdom, two birds in one stone.'
Jane finally arrived at the garden and began to search through the darkest corners of the garden. The garden is so big that it could fit ten houses in it so there are some struggles on searching the beast.
'According to the novel, the gardener found the corpse of the beast early in the morning where it just currently died. It means it is still alive around midnight or so.'
Jane tightly clenched on the healing potion that she just bought early in the morning. It is a high-grade potion that made all her current salary go down the drain. Although it is annoying, if she could get a strong ally just by spending some money then it is worth it
Rustle
She stopped when she heard the sound of leaves moving. In this dark and eerie night, a sound like that might be fitting for horror scenarios and make people wandering alone shit on their pants but not for Jane.
It's here, it's really in here.
Jane stopped herself from smiling and approached the place where the sound came from. She moved the bushes and leaves in her way. She continued doing that for minutes while feeling a bit nervous. And finally, she saw it, the legendary beast.
It was a black furball with short arms and legs, a long black tail, and a face of a baby tiger. It was currently on the ground covered in wounds and scratches and its body reeks of blood.
Jane slowly approached the black beast and slowly tried to put her hands on its body. But she stopped because the black beast's eyes suddenly opened. She retreated her hand and looked at the beast looking at her weakly but fiercely.
'Even though it's on the verge of death it still has his pride huh?'
Jane sighed and put her hands in the air as if signing defeat and look at the black beast.
"Look, I could help you. I got a healing potion here, drink and you'll recover some of your injuries. I won't hurt you so trust me."
The black beast stared at her weakly with a frown and made a weak growl. Jane sighed and picked up the black beast's body. The black beast was surprised but was too weak to resist. In the end, it just gave up and starts to breathe heavily as if he's running out of air.
Jane took this chance and gently poured the potion into its mouth. As soon as it drank all of it, its body started to recover. There are still some injuries left but they could be easily treated. The black beast's breathing started to stabilize and looked up at Jane who is carrying him. Jane stared back at him and gently pats him.
"Rest, I won't do anything bad to you. Trust me."
The beast still has some awareness left but followed her orders and immediately fell into sleep. Jane stared at the black beast for a few seconds before leaving the garden and went inside the mansion. While walking towards her room Jane started to feel unexplainable anger flowing within her.
'This was the beast that they dissected and turned into a national treasure? A child that barely looks like a three-year-old? Are you kidding me? Instead of turning it into a national treasure, why don't they just gave him a proper grave after dissecting him? Greedy bastards. Because of their greed, the evil archmage just found more ways to destroy this continent!'
Although she might not look like it, Jane is the type to become soft to children or young creatures. And seeing a child in this beat-up state makes her want to flip things over. She still didn't know the reason as to why the beast got in this state, it wasn't mentioned in the novel. It looks like this black beast is just used for one of the causes to create a spark of tension and conflicts between kingdoms.
Jane entered her room and carefully placed the black beast in her bed. She treated the remaining injuries and wrapped him with a blanket. Jane stared at the black beast for a while before replacing her clothes that have been stained with the black beast's blood.
She changed in her pajamas and laid down next to the black beast. She patted the black beast's body for a while before closing her eyes and went to sleep.
While in a night of deep sleep the black beast slowly opened its eyes and stared at the blanket wrapped around him, he then looked at the sleeping Jane. He didn't know why a human wanted to save him, it's weird because her mother told her that humans are all liars and ruthless, but it doesn't seem to be the case for this human. He slowly observed her for seconds, minutes, hours... He didn't know how much time has passed but all he did was to focus his round light blue eyes on this human who told her to rest and to trust her.
------------
It's not morning yet and Jane was still sleeping but she had to open her eyes because she felt a heavy pressure on her stomach part. Jane frowned and jolt her eyes open and looked at her stomach. And there she saw the black beast staring at her on top of her stomach. Jane frowned but sighed in the end. She carefully placed the black beast beside her and sat up on the bed. Then she talked to the black beast who is still looking at her.
"Is your body okay now?"
"..."
The black beast didn't say anything and just keep staring at her. Jane felt annoyed and talked to the beast again with a frown on her face.
"Hey, don't act dumb, I know you're smart so talk to me."
Jane looked at the black beast with her arms crossed. She saw the black beast open its mouth and talk.
"Why did you save me?"
"Is there a reason not to save someone who's dying?"
"But it looks like you are prepared on meeting me yesterday. Like you expect me to be there. You even have a potion with you. Who are you?"
The black beast stared at me with fiery eyes and released a massive amount of killing intent and focused it on her. Jane frowned and felt uneasy.
'Damn, he's smart.'
But fortunately, Jane has a talent that she frequently used in her past world to survive. And that is.
Lying.
"Well, I recently bought a potion with me because today I'll work my bones out 24/7. You see, maid work is a hard job no? While working you certainly don't feel pain because you are in the zone but at the end of the day when you're done your body feels like shit and cramped.
If you're asking me why I'm in the garden at night, well that is because recently there are some bothersome squirrels and raccoons throwing garbage everywhere in the garden and ruining the plants at night so I have come to check.
At first, I thought you are a raccoon and is about to catch you but... I saw you bloodied on the ground and I have no choice but to use my potion to treat you since I can't just ignore you."
The black beast looked at her with suspicion but Jane didn't care and just formed a bitter expression while remembering the shit ton of things she needs to do to survive in her past world. And now, she also needs to do a shit ton of crap to survive in the upcoming war... Her face crumpled even more at the horrifying thought.
'Shit, just thinking about it makes me not want to do it but I have to do it so I could live a peaceful life.'
The black beast saw her crumpled and bitter expression and concluded that what she said might be true. He now thought about the hardships of the maids that his mother used to read for him in storybooks and started to agree with Jane even more. He is now fully convinced and nodded his head a few times. Jane didn't notice it at asked straight to the point.
"Hey black beast, why are you in that state yesterday? What happened?"
The black beast frowned at her and talked in an annoyed tone.
"Don't call me that."
"Then what should I call you?"
"T-that, I don't know..."
"Wait, you don't have a name?"
"I-I needed to grow up first to get a name! It is said that gods would personally name us if we gain an achievement that nobody else can...."
"Ho...."
Jane look astonished while looking at the black beast who looked embarrassed. She didn't know that gods cherished legendary beasts, it wasn't mentioned in the novel. And because of this, she concluded that not everything written in the novel is a piece of complete information. But then she started to wonder about something. She then rubbed her chin and asked in confusion.
"It's weird."
"Huh? What's weird? And why are you looking at me like that?"
"Well, it is surprising that gods didn't acknowledge you yet even though yesterday you are still bravely hanging onto life while on the verge of death. Honestly, if I am a god I would've named you right away for your bravery."
The black beast looked at me with surprise and stuttered.
"Y-you think so?"
"Hmm? Yeah, I don't understand why they didn't name you yet. They might be busy or just blind the way they ignored you almost dying."
"T-then..."
The black beast hesitated for a moment before continuing to speak.
"W-what would you name me then?"
Silence filled the room. Jane looked at the black beast with wide eyes before answering in a dumbfounded expression.
"...Am I a god?"
"I shouldn't have asked."
The black beast averted his gaze while his tone has a mixture of embarrassment and annoyance. Jane crossed her arms while looking at the black beast. She then thought that the black beast must've wanted a name so she patted his head and said.
"I'll think about it."
"What?"
"I said I'll think about it. I can't just give you a shitty name out of a rush so I'll think about it. And besides, you deserve it anyway. Good job on surviving and hanging on yesterday, you were really brave."
'Really, he's really brave. If I was bloodied to that extent in my childhood, I might have given up already and let the lord take me to the heavens.'
The black beast looked at her for a while before mumbling.
"Whatever, I don't need a name it if comes from you."
"I'm still gonna do it because I can't just call you 'hey' or 'you' right?"
"You think I'll stick with you? Your imagination must've gone wild."
Jane scratched the back of her head and sighed.
'Well, it's true though. Now that he is healed he no longer needs to stay here. Well, if he wants to leave then that's a shame but I can't stop him because the moment I do that he'll probably incinerate me to dust.'
"Anyway, tell me why are you in that state yesterday."
"I... Why should I tell you?"
The black beast frowned at me and his body slowly turned transparent. He must be using an invisibility spell, which could only be performed by highest-grade mages. He is truly a being loved by nature and mana. Jane saw the window opening and early morning winds started to come inside the room. Jane looked at the window for a while and thought:
'...He left.'
Jane felt disappointed and at the same time annoyed. She has to spend her salary just to buy a potion to save a legendary beast that just left out the window. Heck, it didn't even thank her for rescuing him. The only good side of this operation is the fact that one of the main damage dealers at the future war is now nonexistent.
Jane just kept repeating the good effects on the operation to keep a good mood and sighed. She then washed and wore her maid outfit. She then opened the door but ended up slamming it back shut.
Bang!
Jane breathes heavily while holding her chest as if she just had a heart attack. She then opened the door back again and peeked outside. And there she saw Finesse happily smiling at her while the maids gathered around her back with surprised expressions.
