Party

As he entered the gate the boy heard Sir Trein say "Go to the rack on your right and grab whichever sword suits your fancy." When the boy walked to the weapons rack he seen there were staves, spears, pole-arms, long-swords, bastard-swords, claymores, short-swords, daggers, and more weapons than he knew even existed. The boy picked a short-sword that had a length from his wrist to his shoulder with a brass hilt that went streight out in the directions of the edges of the blade, the blade was as wide as his hand and tapered to it's tip like a spear. Sir Trein remarked "Aye that is a fine blade for a dwarf, but with your size it should suit, if you were properly fed it might feel like a dagger but your so scrawny I wouldn't be surprised if you fell on your face holding the damned thing." The boy then walked over to Sir Trein, holding the sword flat across his left palm and gripping the handle with his right hand. "See you want to hold it like this" said Sir Trein holding his short-sword out with his left hand while turning his body to the side and placing turning his left foot to point in the direction his face and sword were "Mind your footing, keep your feet lined up with your shoulders, turn your leading foot the way your facing and try not to put all your wait on one foot to long, keep your elbow about half way between your body and the sword, use your wrist for light swings and your shoulder for heavy, now you try." The boy did as instructed, and when he tried to swing his blade in a horizontal slash he fell on his face. "Hahaha, I knew it, keep practicing and you will get it, take care of that blade, took me half the morning to make that damn thing, if you need it repaired go to the smithy over there and ask for Master Trein, I am the master craftsman here." Trein said pointing to an area to the other side of the fence where the boy grabbed his sword from the rack. "I will tell that woman you are as incompetent as they come for now, keep practicing and make me a lier will ya'." Said Trein as he walked the boy to the door leading to the main building. As they got to the door, Ara was waiting, laughing and said "Damn bro', I never seen someone put themselves on the ground with a sword before." The boy just looked at her deadpan and said "and I never seen you touch a sword before." Ara turned away and walked into the building saying "Now you know why, I'm going to get my badge now, what about you?" "Same, nothing else for me to do right now" he replied as he followed her into the main building and back in front of the registration counter. "Okay here are your badges, Ara, you can go and see if there is a party you can join. As for you you will be going with an assigned party on a mission first thing tomorrow." said the clerk handing them each a flat ovular piece of metal with their Association stats on them. When the boy looked at his badge he seen it said 'Name: , Rank: F, Class: Porter, Age:11, Gender: M, Race: Human-Elf Mix' "Can the Association help me with a name?" Asked the boy with a curious look while Ara headed up the stairs and started talking with parties sitting at the tables. "When you earn enough merits the Administrator will help you with that" the clerk replied "Your room will be ready this evening. Until then please find a table and get some food, the Association will provide three meals a day free. The free food are: gruel for breakfast, ham and bread for lunch and one serving of any item on the menu for dinner" she added. The boy then went up the stairs and walked around the balcony until he found an empty table at the far corner above the entryway. As he sat down at the table he started thinking to himself 'man this is great!! I thought I would still have to sleep in the alley and now I have a room with Ara! I hope there are two beds, not to mention here I can eat three times a day and they even give me meat!! Plus the Administrator will help me get a name after I get strong enough to be a real Adventurer.' As he was lost reveling in his seeming good fortune the clerk approached him and set a leather backpack on the table saying "this is your Porters bag, I put your new cloths and twelve magic tomes to teach you tier zero and tier one spells of all six elements. Master Trein informed me he gave you that sword so after you eat you should come down and I will show you to your room so you can get cleaned up and get some rest." Then the clerk turned to walk away, turning her head she added "by the way my name is Amara, should be easy enough for you to remember" winking at him. After the clerk finished speaking she went back downstairs. A few minutes later four boys who looked to be ranging from 14 to 16 years old approached his table. One of the boys was wearing chain-mail armour and a steel faceless helm, another one was wearing brown leather armour, the third was wearing black leather armour and a black cloth hood, the fourth was wearing a red robe with orange borders along the front and cuffing the sleeves. The boy wearing the robe approached his table, set down a loaf of bread and a few slices of ham, then said "Hi name is Grook. Am shaman of party. Was born elf raised goblin. Here is you food." Grook was tall, about 6'7" with long blonde hair, icy blue eyes, and yellow skin, typical of High Elves. After the boy took the food and started eating some bread the boy wearing chain-mail approached and said "don't mind him much, he speaks funny but he is a good guy, he is a Fire Magus and resident Alchemist, he can help you with higher tier magic than the books the Association gave you, I am Borus, the Warrior of the group and party leader, the one over there in black is Amon, he is our Assassin and potioneer, the one in brown over there is our Archer, Hammond he makes the food, Because of Grook we can accept dungeon missions, that is what we will be doing tomorrow. The clerk told us you have aptitude in all six elements, if you can learn a tier one healing spell by tomorrow it would be great." The boy then said "It is great to meet you all, when I get a name you will be the first I give it to, but until then just call me as you like." Borus then said "Alright, since you will be our porter that is what we will call you, let me know if there is anything we can help with, we will be starting early tomorrow, so my advice is after dinner go straight to bed." "Okay, I will" said the boy as the party turned and left. After finishing his lunch the boy grabbed his bag and went downstairs to find Amara. "Good, I was waiting for you, if you will follow me I will show you to your lodgings" said Amara, walking out the front door and leading the boy across the street to a two story inn. They then went up the outdoor staircase on the west side of the building, to the right as they approached it. The boy noticed it was well past mid day as the sun was well past it's highest point but not quite setting yet. Amara lead him to the fifth door on the right, stopping in front of the door she said "this is where I will leave you, if you have any problems with the room please let either myself or the Administrator know, also the Administrator has summoned you to his office once your first mission is completed." After finishing what she was saying she handed him an iron key with the number '5' etched into the handle and left. After unlocking the door he opened it and stepped inside, closing the door behind him. When he looked around the room he noticed there was a bed on either side of the room with a large barrel at the opposite wall with a folding blind resting against the wall beside it. At the foot of each bed was a desk with three drawers that had an unlit candle resting on them. As he approached the barrel he noticed it already had started filling itself with water, so he set the blind up in case Ara came in while he bathed got undressed and took a bath. After his bath he got out of the tub and noticed it had started draining, then he felt warm wind blow on him from all directions drying him. At this point he put on his new clothes. His new pants were basic cloth along with his shirt, he now had a brown leather vest over his shirt and shoes to match. 'man I am glad these aren't the kind of shoes with strings, I would never have figured out how to tie them, maybe after I can afford some of my own I will have someone show me' he thought. After he got dressed he decided to leave the blind up but open it enough to get out, then he went to the bed on the left of the room from the door and decided to sleep. A few hours later the boy awoke to the sound of the door opening, starting up from bed he then noticed it was Ara coming into the room as she put her own key inside a pocket on her new vest. "Hello little brother, I told you I would get us off the street" Ara said as she walked to the blind. After Ara disappeared behind the blind he got up and locked the door again, then went back to bed and slept the rest of the night. The boy was wakened by the sound of loud knocking.
