Chapter-7

The first round was over and the winner was Roland. His Bulbasaur even evolved into a Ivysaur. The pressure on Brock had increased.

He took out another pokeball and stared at Roland.

"You won the first match. However, I haven't lost. Come out, Onix!"

A massive snake made of huge rocks came out of the pokeball. As Onix landed on the battlefield, he caused ground to shack and dust to raise.

"Onix, use Rock Throw!"

<<Oooonnnixxxx!!>>

Onix hits the rocky terrain and a barrage of stones flew toward Ivysaur.

"Ivysaur, climb using those rocks and, use Leech Seed."

Ivysaur swiftly stepped through the numerous rocks and shot a brown colored seed at Onix. Onix was naturally slow because of his giant body and the seed hit the mark.

It rapidly sprouted and weeds covered Onix's head as they sucked out his HP. Onix has high physical defence but his special defence was pitifully low. The move Leech Seed was a status effect that he couldn't counter.

<<Oooonnnixxxx!!!>>

Onix howled in agony and swung his tail all over. His mind was in a mess.

"Now, hit him with an Energy Ball!" Roland ordered.

Ivysaur charged a globe of green energy in front of her mouth and fired it at Onix.

"No, Onix go dig!" Brock shouted in anxiety. He didn't expect Roland to take advantage of Onix's low speed and weak special defence.

Nevertheless, Onix had fought many battles and quickly regained his composure. And did as he was told.

Onix bore a hole in the ground and went inside. Completely hiding underground, this was Onix's greatest move. Staying hidden underground to catch his opponents off guard.

Now Ivysaur was totally vulnerable to Onix's sneak attack. Ivysaur looked left and right trying her best to find where Onix has gone.

"Calm down and focus your attention on small stones. Jump the moment you feel the ground vibrate." Roland urged Ivysaur to remain focused. Dig was hard to guard against but it wasn't impossible to predict the direction of the attack.

Pokemon with high agility can easily dodge those sneak attacks.

After a few seconds the ground started to shack indicating that Onix was coming out.

"On you right Ivysaur. Dodge and then fire more Energy Balls!"

Ivysaur was slightly hit by Onix's attack but didn't sustain heavy damage. Since Onix was still under the effect of leech Seed his HP got reduced by 1/8 casing him to flinch.

Therefore, he wasn't able to evade the incoming energy ball. The huge sphere made of energy smashed hard on Onix's face, pummeling him to the ground.

"Don't stop! Again Energy Ball!" Roland wasn't assured with a single hit. He wanted to win this fight right now.

<<Ivyeeesaurrrr!!>>

Ivysaur continued to shoot energy ball after energy ball thrice in quick succession.

"Onix, Nooooo—!" Brock yelled out in worry. Energy Ball was a heavy damage dealer and Onix was hit three times in row. His defeat was set in stone.

After getting hit by three energy balls the gym was covered with dust as the dust subsided. They saw Onix had fainted, meaning Roland and Ivysaur won this match. Subsequently, they won their first gym badge as well!

"Awesome, Ivysaur!! We did it. We won our first badge!" Roland ran up to Ivysaur and lifted her up. She was certainly heavy but he wasn't bothered by her weight.

<<Ivyyyysaurrrrrrr!!!>>

Ivysaur squealed in delight and nuzzled her head on Roland's chest. She was pleased to see him so happy.

"You did great Onix, go back and rest." Brock consoled the downcast Onix and sent him back.

He headed toward Roland.

"You were great Roland. Your teamwork is impressive, keep it up. I wish you good luck." He moved his hand forward for a shake.

"Thank you. It was an exciting fight." Roland didn't decline his good intentions and shook hands with him.

"Here take it. It's the Boulder badge the proof that you defeated me." Brock took out a sliver octagonal rock-shaped badge and handed it over to Roland.

Roland accepted the Boulder badge with a smile and put it inside the badge case professor Oak gave him.

"Then I'll be in my way. I hope to meet you again." Said Roland.

"I also hope to see you again someday." Brock gave him a nod and smiled.

With that Roland departed from the Pewter gym.

After winning his first ever gym battle Roland decided to leave the Pewter city. There wasn't anything left for him to do anyway.

After walking around for about half an hour he finally came out of the city. Then he saw an even longer and an empty road which will be his path for a day or more to reach the Cerulean city for his second gym battle he sighed and continued walking.

He was taking his time strolling the way. After all, there was no hurry.

"At the moment, my first priority is to evolve Magikarp and catch more Pokemon."

His next gym is a Water-type gym, they would fight above a pool. Water-types are weak against Grass and Electric-type.

"However, Grass-type is weak to Ice-type moves." This was his biggest problem. Water-type Pokemon can learn Ice-type moves and naturally they were very effective against Ivysaur.

"Electric-type, huh..." Mumbled Roland. If he was to be honest, his favorite Electric-type wasn't the cute yellow mouse with red baby cheeks and zigzag tail. But, the rowdy and aggressive Elekid.

"But, how am I supposed to find one? Haah..." He slumped his shoulders. Elekids lived in areas with high electromagnetic fields. Roland was nowhere near those kinds of places.

While thinking of all this, Roland headed off to mt. Moon. When reached the mountain a huge cave came to his sight.

He recognized this cave. It was the cave where the moonstone was found. However, he shrugged his shoulders and went inside. Roland wasn't interested in moonstone at all.

"I have to be careful though, there are many Zubats and Geodudes living here."

As he started walking inside this complex structure of a cave. He got lost once or twice but found his way very quickly. The map contributed greatly or it might have taken him forever to get out.

Meanwhile, a few groups of Zubats did try to attack him. But, Ivysaur and Charmander took care of them.

After being in that cave for more than an hour or so, Roland finally found the exit.
