Chapter-6

The next morning Roland woke early due to excitement. He freshened up and headed out of the room. Today he was going to visit the Pewter gym to face off against Brock!

"Good morning nurse Joy."

"You too. How was your night?"

"It was comfortable. Thank you for having me."

"Hehe, don't mention it. This is my duty. So, are you going to challenge the gym?" After they exchanged morning greetings nurse Joy asked curiously.

"Yeah, I think I'm ready." He answered with a nod. Roland was at his wits end. He couldn't wait for his first ever official Pokemon battle any longer. Moreover, he was confident he could win.

"Oh, can't wait now can you~ alright, I wish you good luck. Remember Pewter gym is a Rock-type gym. Rock-type is weak against Grass and Water-type." Nurse Joy thought Roland was a novice trainer, so she gave a tip. It was natural for her to think of Roland as a new trainer as only beginners come to Pewter city. Her assumption wasn't wrong this was indeed Roland's first fight. But, he wasn't a noob.

"I'll keep that in mind, thanks. I'll be going now, take care." He said goodbyes and walked toward the door.

After walking out of the Pokemon center Roland headed toward the direction of the Pokemon gym. Before that, he visited a few shops selling clothes and trainer's stuff. He bought a black trench coat, a grey bag, water bottle, and a pair of finger-less gloves. It won't be Pokemon without finger-less gloves.

The bag and other stuff was just for show. Sure, he can store everything inside his inventory with unlimited space. But, wouldn't a trainer without a bag look suspicious? He needed them to keep his trainer image.

After a while he arrived in front of the Pewter gym he walked inside to see Brock taking care of his Pokemon on the side.

"Hello are you here to challenge?" Asked Brock as he noticed Roland coming inside.

"Yes, I'm Roland. I'd like to challenge you." Roland nodded his head in agreement.

"Alright then, I'm Brock by the way. I am the gym leader of Pewter gym, I accept your challenge." Brock announced as he headed toward his position.

"The rules are simple. Both of us will use 2 Pokemon each. We cannot switch Pokemon in the middle of a battle. The first person to win both fights will be the winner. Are we clear?" Brock asked.

"Yes, I got it." Said Roland. He already knew the rules anyway.

"Then here goes, Geodude go!" Brock started off with his Geodude. It looked as if a boulder was given eyes, mouth, and hands. It was weird to say the least.

"Bulbasaur, I choose you!" Roland sent Bulbasaur.

'Appraisal.'

Potential: Good

Moves: Rollout, Tackle, Mud-Slap, Iron Defence]

'Good, his one level lower compared to Bulbasaur. We got this!'

"Bulbasaur... a smart choice." Brock complimented. Grass-type is very effective against Rock-type.

"Thanks, let's start. Bulbasaur use Growl."

Bulbasaur lets out a cute whimper. Growl was a move that lowers the enemy's attacks sharply. Moreover, Geodude was never an attacker to begin with he was now an even smaller threat.

"Geodude, use Tackle!"

Geodude charged at Bulbasaur in full force.

"Dodge, then shot Razor Leaf."

Bulbasaur moved sideways and rained down razor leaves at Geodude.

"Geodude Iron Defence!"

Geodude curled into a ball as a light coated his body protecting him from the sharp leaves.

"Now Rollout!"

After the razor leaves stopped Geodude began to spin toward Bulbasaur at top speed.

"Dodge again and use Seed Bomb!"

This time Bulbasaur barely evaded Geodude's rollout then retaliated with seed bombs.

Geodude was unable to avoid and got hit. Seeing this as an opportunity Roland hurriedly commanded Bulbasaur.

"Use Vine Whip and bind Geodude!"

Bulbasaur shot two vines from its back and fiercely slapped Geodude. Before, Bulbasaur tied Geodude and tossed him around like a ball.

"Geodude, try to break free!"

Geodude thrashed hard but Bulbasaur simply smashed him harder. It was futile, Geodude was unable to break free.

"Bulbasaur, slam Geodude into the ground then use Razor leaves!"

Bulbasaur flung Geodude high in the air before slamming him to the floor. Dust and debris rose from the crash. The force behind the fall hurt Geodude hard.

However, without giving him any time to catch his breath Bulbasaur fired razor leaves. This again raised clouds of dust.

"No, Geodude!" Brock gritted his teeth, he wasn't sure if Geodude was able to tank this much damage. Razor leaves must have hit hard as it was a Grass-type move.

When the dust settled down, the sight of an unconscious Geodude and a fine Bulbasaur greeted both the trainers.

"Haah, your Bulbasaur is strong you trained her well. Don't worry buddy you tried your best." Brock said as he sent Geodude back inside the pokeball.

"Yeah, we got our first victory Bulbasaur!" Roland patted her head. His mood was great now that he finally experienced the thrill of an actual Pokemon battle.

Bulbasaur too was extremely happy seeing Roland happy. She rubbed her head against his palm. Suddenly, she started glowing in addition to becoming bigger in size.

"It's evolving!" Brock exclaimed in surprise. He was taken aback by this event. It's his first time seeing a trainer's Pokemon evolving in his gym.

You have to know Pewter gym was considered an early-stage gym. The majority of trainers who come here are newbies with only two or three Pokemon at best.

Moreover, most of them are recently caught Pokemon. Thus, it was very strange for a Pokemon to evolve this fast.

Before long, the glow stopped and a much bigger Ivysaur came out. It was quite a bit bigger than usual, maybe due to the top quality food she ate.

Roland shrugged his shoulders, a Pokemon larger in size wasn't really uncommon.

He was more elated because one of his Pokemon successfully evolved!

<<Ivysaurrrr!!!>>

Ivysaur growled displaying her strength and dominance.

"Haha, great my girl. You've grown stronger." He gently caressed her head.

'Appraisal.'

Level: 18

Potential: Excellent

Moves: Tackle, Growl, Vine Whip, Growth, Leech Seed, Razor Leaf, Poison Powder, Sleep Powder, Seed Bomb, Energy Ball]

'It's level increased by two.' Roland thought in his head. When she evolved, Roland used [Skill Select] on Bulbasaur and made her learn Energy Ball.

This move wasn't restricted by level, even Bulbasaur could learn this move. It's just that Roland thought it would be too tiresome for her as a Bulbasaur to use such a high level special attack.
