Entry 002: The Induction of Magic

I figured that I should write down what I'm going to be working with at this first academy. When I was first gaining skills and Job Classes the organization was an absolute nightmare. The skills were just in a giant list, as if the Gods themselves tried to put the people of Polynia at a huge disadvantage.

Luckily for me, I tried fiddling about with it and discovered that the display was completely customizable. I could actually discern what skills went with what Class, and what actually went into the base stat numbers. After some trial and error, and picking out the skills for the Shadow Mage class, my spreadsheet looked like this.

Job Classes:

Swordsman- Level 29

Skills:

Battle Sense

-Battle Sense is a skill that many talented swordsmen hold. It allows the holder to heavily concentrate on the movements of their opponent, or enhance the detection of potential interference in the holder's battle. This skill requires no Mana to cast, but drains Stamina* over time. The two states of Battle Sense are Detect Singular, and Detect Multiple, respectively.

The Swordsman level bonus affects the amount of Stamina this skill drains.

*Stamina is a separate value that is hidden from view, it is derived from endurance.

Assassin- Level 21

Skills:

-Quiet Casting allows the holder to cast spells and skills without producing any sound waves. Cast skills and spells will still emit the waves that the skills Magic Detection and Skill Detection pick up on. Quiet Casting is a passive skill that requires nothing to keep active. Quiet Casting can be combined with other skills to create a new incanting language if the holder wishes.

The Assassin level bonus will reduce the amount of Kedra waves emitted when skills and spells are cast.

Water Mage- Level 12

Skills:

-Form Control is a skill that has been bestowed upon the holder due to their past knowledge of the many molecular forms of water. Form Control allows for the direct manipulation of water beyond what Polynian mages can manipulate.

The Water Mage level bonus does not affect this skill.

Shadow Mage- Level 17

Skills:

-Corruption causes those that touch the shadow that the holder is manipulating to be vulnerable to the shadow taking control of the target. The level of corruption has three stages: Body, Mind, and Soul. The more potent the shadow is, the greater level of Shadow resistance is needed to not be corrupted.

The Shadow level bonus affects the potency of all manipulated shadow.

-Mutation allows for all skills to be able to undergo a different process of evolution compared to the natural route. Instead of skills evolving under a set path, Mutation will use the power of Shadow to temporarily corrupt the skill, allowing for the skill to mutate its secondary effect. The Mutation skill can, ironically, also be Mutated.

The Shadow Mage level bonus will affect the amount of effects that a skill can mutate, meaning that instead of Mutating and adding one extra effect, it may evolve two.

-Noxious Gas allows for the holder to materialise Shadow in a gaseous form, allowing for increased mobility, and area coverage.

The Shadow Mage level bonus will affect the potency of the gaseous Shadow.

General Skills:

-Ambidextrous allows for the holder to use each hand to equal effectiveness in all tasks.

-Appraising Eye gives the holder the power to see only the Comprehensive statistics of Lesser Creatures, and mortals that do not have a higher ranked concealment skill, i.e Fortitude, which strengthens the defences of the soul.

As I will be looking back on this sheet and adjusting it, I decided that I should also include important notes as well. I have discovered that the Job Classes have different level thresholds at which I can choose a new skill that will be governed by that Job Class. Swordsman and Water Mage give skills every 25 levels, Assassin gives one every 15, and Shadow Mage gives one every 5.

That's about all I know about the core mechanics of the power system in this new world, and it gives me the vibes of a video game, but also like some online books I read in my teenage years.

I'm interested in how this will develop, and if I will be able to grow exponentially, or be stuck at the same rate for many years. I certainly hope the former is the case.
