Day-Z (2/2)

A few minutes earlier, during the principal's announcement, a chubby student was trying to sneak out of the room before being interrupted by a female voice.

"Hey, Hirano," called the girl, almost in a whisper.

"Takagi-san?"

Takagi signaled for Hirano to follow her, and they both took off towards the opposite side of the exit. As soon as they got some distance away, the desperate cries of the students echoed and a chaotic rush began down the corridors.

"Where did you intend to run off to?", asked Takagi as he ran.

"I wanted to look for my cousin," replied Hirano with difficulty as he ran too.

"Is he a student?"

"Yeah, I haven't seen him since he went to the bathroom."

"What's his name?"

"His name is Eli--"

A boy turned into the corridor in front of them running and was soon grabbed by a bloody hand that threw him to the ground, the Zombie appeared and launched itself at the falling boy tearing his back and breaking his bones.

"RUN!" shouted Takagi.

Taking advantage of the momentum of the run, they quickly passed the Zombie and headed for an open door ahead, which led to a walkway connecting the student building to the administration building.

The Zombie grunted fiercely when it noticed the two running away and got up to chase them. The pair managed to get through the door and desperately slammed it shut.

"Scary...", commented Kohta shakily.

Takagi was breathing heavily, her legs were shaking and fear could be seen in her eyes, she was terrified.

"I think we should go to the teacher's room, Takagi-san," suggested Kohta.

"What could they do for you? Look at how irrational that idea is." Takagi pointed with his head to the teachers' lounge, which was visible from the walkway.

A small group of students were huddled together desperately clamoring for the teachers to resolve the situation, the door opened and a hand grabbed the head of the nearest student and other teachers already transformed came out of the room attacking the remaining students, what was left was only the screams of the poor students and the sound of their flesh being devoured.

"What about the police? We could call your cell phone or something."

"I'm an exemplary student, Hirano, I don't break school rules and you've seen how serious this situation is, I'm sure they've already called the emergency services, but I haven't heard a single siren approaching."

Hirano bowed his head dejectedly, if he couldn't count on the adults or the authorities, how could this situation be resolved? It looked like he would have to rely solely on his own strength to find Elijah.

"Takagi-san, help me find my cousin, please," Kohta asked, bowing slightly.

Takagi turned red with embarrassment at the sight of him bowing and tried desperately to calm him down:

"H-Hirano-kun, you don't need all that, I'll help you, no problem!"

Kohta smiled gratefully and so they both made their way along the walkway, avoiding the zombies as much as possible and looking for the boy's cousin.

"I forgot to ask you again, what's your cousin's name?" asked Takagi, whispering so as not to attract the attention of the zombies in the corridor ahead.

"He's the new student who joined our class, Takagi-san," replied Kohta in his innocent voice.

"Your cousin is that bastard Elijah?!"

It seemed that the girl was still holding a grudge from having spent an hour wandering around the school looking for Elijah at the teacher's request.
