Comparisons Are Odious

The two of them had not seen each other for so many years, and Shen Lin was now considered a successful person with a car, a house, and a job. Damn it, it was really infuriating to make comparisons.

Zhou Xia turned around and took out her bank card from the drawer under the coffee table. She handed it to Shen Lin in the same way. ''This card contains all my savings, but I have to tell you in advance that I don't have a house or a car. Don't regret it after giving it some thought."

Shen Lin was stunned. He looked at her with his eyes wide open. Did Zhou Xia agree to it?

"Yeah, I'm not young anymore. There won't be numerous wedding prospects to choose from. Moreover, we know each other well. I'll have a place to stay if I'm with you, so let's get married." Zhou Xia wanted to laugh when she saw his surprised look, so her tone became lighter.

Besides, Shen Lin was quite good-looking. In the future, Zhou Xia could satisfy her vanity if she introduced him as her husband. 

Most importantly, there were three ways to be unfilial in this era. One was to be unemployed. Another was to remain unwed, and the last one was to be childless. Shen Lin was a doctor who had a stable job. He would definitely be able to satisfy her parents.

In the eyes of many parents, people who had stable jobs would have a secure and happy life for the rest of their lives.

Zhou Xia's father was a civil servant, and her mother was a high school teacher. Both of them had worked in the system for a long time and were influenced by it, so their thinking was more old-fashioned.

Zhou Xia, on the other hand, felt that as long as she could earn money from work, it didn't matter what she did. However, she still wanted to choose a son-in-law who could satisfy her parents.

After all, her parents had been worried about her for several years.

"You can keep your own bank card." Shen Lin stuffed her bank card into the pocket of her pajamas.

There was a thin layer of fabric between her skin and Shen Lin's fingers. The moment Shen Lin's fingers brushed past her skin, Zhou Xia noticed that something was wrong. Shen Lin's hand was so hot. She could even feel his burning temperature against her pajamas.

Then, Zhou Xia looked at Shen Lin. His face was red. His lips were dry and bleeding. His forehead was drenched with water droplets. She could not tell if it was sweat or rain.

"You don't look too good. Are you sick?"

Shen Lin nodded. He said in a hoarse voice, "I might have caught a cold. I'm fine." Although he was stubborn, his expression became more and more strange, and his body staggered.

"Let's go in first." Zhou Xia did not know what to say to him. "The marriage registration office is not open at night. Why are you in such a hurry on a rainy day like this?"

As she grumbled, Zhou Xia opened the shoe cabinet to find him a pair of slippers.

Shen Lin entered the house. He was about to close the door when he stopped. "I'll come back tomorrow morning."

Zhou Xia threw the slippers at his feet, stood up, and rolled her eyes at him. She was at a loss, but she still said, "Sure. Change into a formal suit when you come tomorrow. Remember to go to the florist and buy me 999 white roses as well as a three-carat diamond ring. Otherwise, don't bother coming in."

Shen Lin knew that she was blaming him. He just looked at her silently without speaking.

"Don't just stand there. Are you going to be my doorman? Change your shoes, and come in." Zhou Xia turned around and went to the bedroom. She found a new set of men's pajamas and a towel. Zhou Xia then handed them to him. "Change out of your wet clothes and wipe yourself dry. The bathroom is over there."

Shen Lin did not take them. He glanced at Zhou Xia. He could not see her face clearly. He could only see the black hair on her head and her fair skin that was concealed under her pajamas.

She must have just taken a shower and had not dried her hair. Her beautiful dark hair was loosely tied into a bun. She looked very casual.

Her old-style outfit had a plain pattern, but it looked good on her. It was all because of her alabaster skin.

Zhou Xia kept her hand outstretched and wondered if she was still missing something.

"What are you waiting for? Quickly go in and change."

After that, Zhou Xia stuffed the clothes into the other person's arms.

Shen Lin furrowed his eyebrows. "Whose pajamas are these?"

"No one. I just bought it. I originally wanted to give it to someone else, but I didn't because the relationship ended." Zhou Xia had no intention of hiding it. "I broke up with someone recently. If you mind, it's not too late to regret it now."

She was referring to his proposal to her.

Shen Lin lowered his head and looked at the black silk pajamas in his hand. The texture was soft and smooth. The delicate neckline indicated that it was very expensive.

He also knew Zhou Xia's financial situation. She was still studying and had not finished her Ph.D., so she had no job or income.

She was still the same as before, always treating others with sincerity and care.

"Will you two still keep in touch in the future?"

Zhou Xia was a little surprised. Anyone who heard what she said would think that way. However, it was Shen Lin. Things were different.

Shen Lin had never been a jealous person. Moreover, they had not seen each other for a long time.
