We will be reunited

As I left the house of that random individual, smoke and high temperatures hit me. The entire location was on fire...? I flew up in the air and I couldn't muster up any words to explain the disaster in front of me. The entire city was on fire as lava flowed through the streets burning anything it came in contact with.

Eerily enough, the city was dead silent. Were these two people survivors? I kept flying around in hopes of finding someone else but the structure kept falling hindering my flight. Then I heard the noises. Survivors? I used all my strength to fly towards the source only to be met with the worst nightmare of any human. The humans were setting elves on fire by pouring molten lava on them. They screamed and begged for mercy but the humans did not stop.

As their skins melted off, the cries for mercy stopped and the bodies became lifeless. I was shaken to core and decided running away would be best. As I flew up into the air, I was stopped by a being that resembled an angel.

She had a halo behind her head so I assumed she was some divine being but I'm not that well-versed with heavens. But I knew that whoever she was, she was hostile towards me. She raised her hands and some arrows formed in the air and shot them at me. I tried dodging them but there were just too many... hundreds? thousands? But one pierced my body... then another and then another before I fell.

...

"My lord, the ascendant number 12, Sapphire has been slayed." A regulator appeared out of thin air and bowed to me.

"Slayed? How is that possible..." I placed my pen on table and thought for a while. Sapphire was on a mission as a diplomat so her murder would spark a great conflict between the nations.

"His majesty has received her remains and will be hosting the funeral in 7 days time with only the fourteen ascendants." He said and I sighed.

"Fine. Now leave." I glanced at Layla who had teleported to me. We were meeting each other again for the first time since my return. "Any information about Sapphire's death?"

"Your classmates killed her." She responded.

"Classmates?" Some memories flashed before my eyes. "I see." I continued on writing the paper I was working on. Lately, the professor and I had been working on some experiments. Sapphire's death is not exactly a surprise to me. She was always an impulsive one.

"You've gotten too strong. Now you can even keep me from tracking you down? You only allowed me to teleport because you needed information, right? You seem to have changed... too much."

"And you have been talking too much." I responded in a slightly annoyed tone. "I just... want to get done. Until we have destroyed the heavens, I can't rest."

"Did you find information you were not suppose to?" She asked.

"Not suppose to? I found all the information you've been hiding! This world is currently in 137th cycle and we are stuck in a loop where we will lose regardless! Anyone who is not a human will be tormented over and over through eternity. Ascendants have failed 137 times so far in achieving their goal. This time is different. I do not belong to this world nor do my classmates. If I lose and the cycle continues then we will become part of the cycle too. Only an outsider can stop the cycle and I'm the only outsider who knows the truth of this world."

"Don't blame me. I didn't know that either. Even now I can't figure out what initiated the time loop." She responded.

"Useless." I stood up and walked out of the room. The information had been too overwhelming for me. It had been a year since we arrived in this world for the first time. I became the biggest target of those corrupt priests and learning the truth about this world...

That assembly of forbidden contained forbidden knowledge that no one was supposed to have. It willingly gave me the information but it was too bizarre. It made me experience the helplessness of the non-humans first hand by making me live through memories of war prisoners. I was the first to figure out the fact that we were stuck in a loop where dragons will always be defeated by the origin... the origin will always divide itself into five parts, Layla will always stay behind. The war between humans and non-humans will always happen. Non-humans will lose every single time and will be forced into seclusion... The regulators will always try to destroy the heavens and will always lose.

I have experienced the past and I can foretell the future. We were always doomed.

If we lose this time, it might truly be the end.

...

Out of my own bad habit I was spying on my classmates. To be specific, Kristine.

I was currently on a high enough cliff, standing on the edge looking down at the fight scene.

Currently, Nightfall and some of my classmates were fighting against a group of regulators. They are my subordinates for sure but I wanted to see how strong Kristine had gotten ever since I left.

They ended up defeating the group of regulators which meant they had gotten stronger. I hope they are able to survive the war. Just as I was about to leave, his majesty spoke through telepathy.

"One of the regulators possesses some forbidden knowledge, make sure those humans don't take it away." He spoke.

"Fine." I sighed and teleported mid air and stepped on Liam's head slamming him into the ground before he could deal the final blow. I made sure to not put extra effort or else this could've killed him.

"Kenji?" Kristine looked at me in disbelief and made a somewhat sad expression. "Where were you?"

"He stopped an attack against the regulators?" Leisha was confused just like others. This was our first encounter since the day I left which was around 8-9 months ago.

"He is the traitor of humanity! Kill him!" Some soldier shouted as everyone except my classmates charged at me. I raised my hand and created a tornedo that sucked all those soldiers in and then deactivated the magic to make them fall from a great height. It was enough to render them harmless.

"Why do you keep doing this!? It hurts so much... Seeing you turn on your own kind... to see you turn on us. Please come back. We can definitely move on from this." Kristine cried out to me.

Seeing her like this was painful but it is not the time. I hope she stays away from me as much as possible.

"Till the ascendants have defeated the heavens, I will not stop. We will be reunited but not here and not now." I said as I opened a big enough portal for the regulators to pass through. "Once you understand the truth about this world, then you will understand." I said as I levitated backwards through the portal and closed it before anyone else could enter.

The regulators bowed to me but I kicked the group leader right in the face.

"If you had forbidden knowledge on your body, you should not indulge in any sort of fighting! How difficult is that to understand?"

"We apologize, our lord. We were surrounded so there was no way out." One of the regulators responded.

"Then destroy the forbidden knowledge. We have already briefed over when you joined, right?"

"It was our fault. We will accept any punishment." Another one said.

The ascendants had collectively agreed on a rule that if regulators were stuck in a position where they were surrounded while being confronted by a situation where their arrest was inevitable, they would destroy the forbidden knowledge by setting it on fire. We would much rather not have the knowledge than let others have it.

The religious folks will definitely use it to cause more chaos or even war. They would use the knowledge to stay in power and that's worse than us losing out on some important knowledge. That's why we make sure it is hammered into regulators to destroy the knowledge.

"Our goal is to not only get access to more knowledge but also make sure the other party doesn't even know such knowledge exists. Now hand over the paper."

The leader took out the paper and I snatched it from his hands and read through it.

"What..." I was completely blown away. "Where did you find it?"

"Other side. In one of the temples of the seven dragons. Getting inside was near impossible but there are 7 more temples." He said.

"I see. This information is... Fine. You can have a paid week off. All of you." I said and walked away. The paper was written by some scribe accounting for the events that unfolded in their era.

It spoke of existence of five people who were placed on this planet to make sure people don't start acting against the Gods. These people's identity was unknown but they are comparable to the seven dragons in strength. One of the five people were focused on. A king who mastered all elements including the element of the heavens. He betrayed the heavens and spread the forbidden knowledge and heavens got rid of him allegedly but the scribe continued that cavalry of Munioko had found remains of the king Askai and believed that he was still alive somewhere.

I wonder how much important knowledge we don't have. I have to met with his majesty and hand over the information.
