"Yeah. What about you, Lynn?"
"Me? Almost the same story as you. Parents dead, single child. I was in my house when the apocalypse started. Went here since it seemed like the safest place for the time being."
"Oh!" It seemed as if a genius idea had struck Tyson's mind, "So, we are basically the orphan group!"
"Sam's parents are also dead?"
Tyson shrugged, "She doesn't talk about them. I asked her on our way here, and she almost left me as those zombies."
"Well, thanks, Tyson. At least now I know what not to talk with her."
"No worries!" Tyson smiled as they walked back to the house with enough wood. Lynn had noticed that Tyson did none of the chopping, but at least he carried all the wood back. When they arrived at the cabin again, Sam was already sitting in the entrance with the steel bowl full of berries, shrooms, and herbs.
"Look, guys! We have lots of food!" This was the first time Lynn had seen this violent girl smile. If she truly smiled more, she would be one pretty girl.
"We got wood! By the way, Sam, did you see the zombie ashes in the pit?"
Sam's smile turned into a frown instantly, she stood up and went to Lynn.
"You burned a zombie alive?"
Lynn nodded, not wanting to say that in reality he could just transform into someone else and summon side characters from stories. It would make him sound bonkers and probably Sam would throw him inside the pit with whatever is left of the zombie.
"Tyson, come here right now!" Sam was as mad as hell. Lynn did not understand what he had said to make her so angry.
"Do you even know how this zombie thing is transmitted?"
"Well… people are bitten by zombies and that's all." Lynn shrugged not understanding what Sam's point with this topic was.
"Are you acting dumb or are you really dumb?"
"Can you please stop insulting me every five minutes?"
"Guys, can we stop fighting?"
"Shut up!" Sam and Lynn shouted to Tyson in unison. Tyson retreated a little more behind Sam.
"You don't even know if this whole zombie thing can be transmitted airborne and you burned a bloody damn corpse of it!"
"Wait… can I be infected by breathing it?"
"Well, we don't know if those ashes you breathed when burning it are infectious, but probably. When did you burned the zombie?"
Lynn was starting to panic. What could the chances be of him being infected just as Sam said? In movies people normally did not burned zombie corpses, but also that's all fiction.
"Maybe between 9:30 or 10:30 pm? I'm not sure." Lynn was sweating and it was not from the heat, but from his own panic, "I was too scared to even see the time, I was just trying to save my life, and after that, I was too tired." Lynn hated to admit in front of this girl that he was scared, but the embarrassment has already been spilled so there was no turning back.
Sam was now pointing her dirty bat at Lynn. The girl was clearly always ready to attack. "Have you felt bad or have any weird symptoms that you normally don't have?"
Lynn tried to think hard, but he felt just as always. He shook his head.
"Sam, is Lynn not contagious then?"
She glared at Lynn trying to see if he was lying or not.
"We will see in 48 hours, normally any kind of virus or bacteria inside a human will start showing its symptoms in 48 hours. If in two days he is still… him, then he is clear."
"Well… thanks for the consolation…" Lynn said sarcastically.
"I will keep an eye on you in these two days, if you act even a tiny bit different, I'm tying you down to one of these trees."
"Seriously?"
"Be thankful that I'm not smashing you before you turn into one of those rotten things," Sam said as if she were doing Lynn a favor.
"Sam…" Tyson was trying to warn Sam to not be so rude to the person who was offering his house to them.
"I'm just trying to save both of us from a nasty ending."
"Hey, what are the possibilities of me transforming into a zombie?"
"From my calculations and knowledge of how viruses and bacteria works and assuming this is caused by one of those things, maybe 30%."
"That's pretty low." Lynn somehow felt relieved.
"Just tell us if you feel somehow weird before shit gets nasty." Sam said as she lowered her bat, "So, are you going to open the door to your house, or do you want me to also smash it?" This time Sam did gave Lynn a true smile.
Lynn really could not understand this girl, but he was somehow starting to get used to her and her antiques.
