No Hospitals

Sonic knew that Gemerl wasn't that kind of robot, but he did have x-ray eyes. Vanilla had cleaned the wounds with her first air kit and stitched them with her knitting tools (Espio had pulled out the frighteningly huge bullets with his kunai), and most importantly Eggman was still breating, but didn't show any other signs of being alive.

"Left lung deflated, right lung filling with fluid, severe bloodloss, broken ribcage, entire left arm shattered..." Gemerl listed with his characteristic monotone voice.

Sonic's eyes (and all the others sans Shadow's and Espio's for that matter) widened in horror as the list of Eggman's injuries got longer. It was a miracle he was still alive! And all of that from some bullets, not lasers or more dangerous projectiles!

"Death imminent. Extensive medical attention required. Attention that cannot be given here."

"What do we do!? WHAT DO WE DO!?" Charmy cried in horror.

"Just let him pass on." Shadow said in a derisive tone. Even though the black and red hedgehog was one of his 'friends', Sonic was sorely tempted to punch him the face. Fortunately, Vector, who otherwise would do nothing against the living weapons, didn't really see him as a friend, and made sure Shadow knew his displeasure by punching him.

"What was that for!?"

"Shadow, Eggman got shot saving Cream and her mother from certain death, and from one of his robots to boot!" Vector screamed to him. "And last time I checked, you were WORSE than him once! At least he just wanted to conquer the world, which he did, whereas you wanted to destroy it, and unlike Eggman you-you could do it by yourself with no one's help!" He was, of course, pointing out the fact that any time Eggman nearly conquered Mobius was not just because his vast machine army, but also due to support from other (Dark Gaia and Infinite, for example), whereas Shadow, being the 'Ultimate Lifeform', needed only to have the Chaos Emeralds and being furious to destroy the planet.

Shadow, obviously, was absolutely livid with Vector's statement, was about to scream at him (or worse, given who are we talking about here), but Rouge stopped him from doing so.

"Shadow, Eggman has changed, and you know it." Rouge said said. "Yes, he did bad things in the past, horrible in some cases." She admitted. "But look around you. He not only got himself nearly killed to protect Cream and her mom, but also built these... things out of the goodness of his heart, to atone for being a bad guy."

"You were the one who tipped me of his presence in Floral Forest yesterday."

The Chaotix stared at the busty bat in shock. They had been in the village for seventy two hours, and yet they didn't see her the previous day. How, just HOW did they not see her!? Yes, she was a master thief that could blend anywhere, but still!

"And also the one who tipped the Chaotix." Rouge revealed.

It had to be related, somehow!

"At leat Omega is not here. Eggman being halfway to the other side wouldn't stop him from making sure he, well, you know."

"And good thing it was. Imagine how much more damage if you four hadn't come." Vanilla said, ignoring Rouge's words as she stared down at the one who saved her and her daughter's life. "But that doesn't help our situation."

"Where's the closest hospital located?"

"Sixty miles."

"What!?" Vector exclaimed, dumbfounded by the response. "Whyat happens if any of you, don't know, gets their foot crushed by a fallen log or something."

"Well, nothing like that had happened to us before."

"Mother?" Asked Cream with tears on her eyes, Cheese not bothering to try and comfort her. Chocola was nowhere to be seen. "Is Mr. Eggman going to..." She didn't say more, but she didn't have to.

Vanilla didn't say anything, she just embraced her daughter and hugged her tightly.

Sonic looked at the fallen form of his former arch-enemy dejectedly. , only to be killed by one of his own creations.

And then he remembered.

How could he have been so stupid!

He was Sonic the Hedgehog, the FASTEST thing alive!

"Wait here, I'll take him to a better place!" He said to the group before grabbing Eggman (difficult, since the good man was now even heavier than before) and speeding away from the village. Obviously they thought he meant a hosptial.

But what hospital in all of Mobious would want to save the feared and hated Eggman, whose five months-long reign of terror had only ended two months prior? None, that's who.

So, he took Eggman to the only place that would help him, by virtue of Sonic himself asking for it.

The Restoration HQ. His plan was simple: take him there, ask for the closest hospital to send an ambulance, and force the paramedics to take Eggman to the hospital. It had to work for several reasons:

-Sonic himself, the hero and savior of Mobius, would vouch for him.

-As bad as he had been, Eggman had changed, and Sonic had proof he really turned over a new leaf (well, not really, but he could just take someone to Floral Forest), and therefore deserved to live.

-Even the most cold-hearted doctor would have to help when seeing the horrible state Eggman was in.

"Amy, call the hospital and tell them that one of us was in the middle of an explosion! Tails, help me stabilize him!" He had NO idea how would he do that.

-He could always point out if they let Eggman die his angry ghost might come back from the dead to torment or even kill them. That, and over a hundred angry villagers that wouldn't take kindly to their new hero's death because the staff didn't save him.

"Guys, help me! Bring me a big table or something to put him over!" Sonic exclaimed as he entered the 'command room' of the place, Amy and Tails ordering around several Restoration members.

"What!?" Amy and Tails (and the others, for that matter) exclaimed in unison, having no idea of what was happening, only that Sonic had suddenly come inside with a very pale and stitched up Eggman, who had been missing from two months, on his shaking arms.

"But that's-" Began to say a sheep before Sonic turned to her, a scared look in his eyes.

"Eggman, I know, but trust me, he's changed!"

"But-!

"JUST DO IT! HE'LL DIE IF WE DON'T HELP HIM!" Sonic screamed.

"Alright alright!" Amy said before turning to some Restoration members and asking for a table to put Eggman on.

"Hang on big guy, you have to get through this-no WILL get through this!" He said to the unconscious form of Eggman. "Getting shot by an Eggbot is nothing compared to the many times you were at the epicenter of an explosion! Many of which happened because of you, and half of those times it was a decoy of yours, but still, don't give up!" To his surprise and relief, Eggman woke up from his unconscious state, if just a bit.

"T-the girls..." He managed to chortle before blood came out of his mouth again.

"They're completely fine, you saved them!"

"G..." Eggman groaned before losing consciousness again.

"I called the hospital, they'll be here in five minutes."

Sonic didn't say anything, but sighed in a mix of relief and exhaustion. Eggman might not have five minutes, but as much as he hated to admit it, they would have very possibly refused to even be in the same building as Eggman, even if Sonic asked/begged/ordered them to save his life, not after his tyrannical rule; only thing left was to hope they came and saved him. On the other hand, bringing him there might have not been a good idea either.

"Sonic... what happened? Why do we have Eggman, Eggman of all people, laying on the planning table and in a pool of his own blood?" Amy asked. "And why is he so... big?"

Sonic sighed.

"You wouldn't believe what I discovered."

And so, Sonic told the Restoration about Eggman's stance at Floral Forest Vilalge, what happened during the month, and what he did in the village.

"So..." Began to say Tails. "You're saying that Eggman has lost some of his memories yet is still Eggman, landed in Cream's village a month ago, had a epiphany and decided to become good, build vertical axis wind turbines to provide electricity to the village, a few hovercars because he wanted to, and a railgun to throw debris and trash to orbit, whose first shot was loud enough to be heard even from here, fought Shadow to a standstill with nothing but his fists, and finally got shot defending the village from Badniks?"

"Got shot saving Cream and her mother." Sonic corrected. "He's big and strong and yet look at him, he's more dead than alive! Imagine what would have happened to them! But yeah, pretty much that's what happened."

There was a silence that seemed to last for an eternity to Sonic. Then...

"Do you have any idea of just how INSANE does it all sound to us?"
