Chapter 007

Oscar

My uncle stared at me in disbelief at what I had just told him. I didn't want anyone to know in the first place, and I didn't want Karen to know either because I knew we couldn't be together.

It had happened the very day she boldly called out to me for help on the street. I wasn't happy when I found her. I knew she would be the Genesis of my troubles. I was still having fun with Tabitha and Riley. I didn't want a fated mate, but there she was, my fated mate.

The worse part was that she was human. Why would the moon goddess choose to curse me like this? I couldn't turn away from her. She had been given to me by the goddess. I knew I had to help her, and that was why I offered her a job.

Humans never felt the mate bond, so there was a possibility she felt nothing for me. I didn't want to reject her, but I didn't want to accept her either. When she resumed work, the pull towards her became strong, and I just had to kiss her that night.

I had fired her not because she got drunk and puked everywhere but because she had a terrible hold on me. I had begged Valery to help me lay her off because I knew I wouldn't be able to do it. Fate had worked against me, and she had walked in on Tabitha and me. Her stubbornness made getting rid of her impossible. It was only normal that the moon goddess would give me a bold and stubborn mate. It was sad that she was human, and I didn't want to get tied down by the mate bond. Especially not to a human.

I tried to get her uncomfortable and have her quit when I did what I did with Tabitha in the office, but Karen was immune to everything. Her immunity to ill-treatment made me figured that she must have had a shitty life growing up. By the time Tabitha left, I found myself wanting her. I intended to take her that night and use her some more, then lay her off, but when she told me she was a virgin everything changed. It meant the moon goddess had kept her for me. I thought she was lying, but when I felt it with my fingers I couldn't do it anymore. I was going to be her first I intended to make it special before leaving her.

When those wolves had come for her, I began to wonder what had I gotten myself mixed up in. I wasn't lying to the wolves when I told them she was my woman. I couldn't throw her to the wolves like that.

The goddess had given me a daunting task. She had fated me to a hunter and pitched me against the werewolves and the vampires in the process. How did she expect me to survive this unscathed? If I protected Karen, it meant I would be fighting enemies from both within and without.

"You have to reject her son," Was the first thing my uncle said.

" Don't worry about her feelings. Humans don't feel the mate bond. She probably doesn't even care about you." he explained.

" So I should reject her and hand her over?" I asked my uncle, funnily looking at him."

" No, son. Reject her and then bring her here. We will try our best to protect her. But in case we fail, it won't affect you. If you don't mind me asking again, who is she, and why are people after her?" My uncle asked, and I took a deep breathe to reply. I knew there was no need to hide it anymore, I just had to tell him.

" Her name Is Karen Hunter, an orphan I hired. Last night, I found out she is the granddaughter of Giles Hunter and the daughter of John Hunter." I told my uncle, and he sat in shock.

" Are you sure about this?" He asked, and I nodded.

"You can't bring her here Oscar, the wolves and vampires will come knocking. Why would the goddess curse you like this and bind you to a Hunter?" he asked, looking very worried and scared. I understood his reaction. Anyone that wanted what was best for the pack would react the same way.

" I don't know what else to do, uncle," I told him.

" Reject her and live her to her fate. The Hunter's bloodline has to end so we can all have peace," he stated in a matter of fact tone. "You can't endanger your pack by bringing her here, and you cannot endanger our kind by allowing her to survive. You can't endanger your life by trying to protect her. No Hunter descendant is worth it. I know asking you to kill your fated mate will be too much, but you have to leave her to her fate. You cannot be her guard wolf. This is too big of trouble to get yourself and your pack mixed up in. Walk away while you still can, Oscar. It will hurt for a while, but you will get over it. She would become a distant memory." he advised.

I knew he was telling the truth.

Karen was a danger to my kind. I was angry that the goddess would curse me like this. I returned to the house an unhappy man.

I found Karen sleeping when I entered her room. I remember how she had peed on herself out of fear. I remembered how she was shaking and screaming. The girl was ordinary. She had no Hunter powers, and she was alone and scared. Why would life deal her such a terrible card? She was truly unlucky.

When I first met her, I could see that she had been unlucky most of her life. When I investigated her, I found she had nothing to her name. Wondering how she was surviving and how quickly she agreed to my terms was why I believed she might be loose. She had only been desperate. I realised she might never really have a break. I didn't intend to settle down with her, and though I wanted to protect her, I couldn't risk my life for her. She was truly alone and unlucky.

I decided I wouldn't leave her to her fate yet, but I wouldn't get my pack involved either. She was innocent and helpless in all of this. I would try to protect her the best way that I could and see where it goes from there. One thing I was sure of was that I wasn't going to settle down with her no matter how strong the pull towards her felt. I needed a wolf as my mate and not a human. Once I am ready to name a Luna, I will let her go.
