Chapter #40: A New World Part 1

[Morning Base #7]

Within the confines of Saki's office, an air of urgency hung in the air as Saki, Yuki, and Chloe convened around the table Saki sits around his desk with Yuki and Chloe standing over it. The weight of the recent events rested heavily upon them.

"Not only did over a hundred people die, but a captain was among them," Saki's voice carried a mixture of concern and frustration.

Chloe interjected, her tone somber, "And don't forget, none of them even put up a fight, not even the captain."

Saki reached for a glass of water he drinks some and puts it back and leans back in the chair, his contemplative gaze fixed on the distance. "This is weird. What if they knew their assailants? Maybe that's why there was so little resistance."

Yuki leaned in, his brow furrowed in deep thought. "But if that's true, once they attacked one, wouldn't the rest have retaliated? Let's go with my gut feeling it's a man that's behind this."
