Chapter 12: Tonight

After leaving Professor Flitwick's office, Arthur walked towards the library. As he walked, he thought about their conversation, which had been very helpful and had given him direction.

Magic was never simply about reciting spells and waving a wand. It was mysterious, and many wizards knew how to use spells but didn't understand the essence.

Of course, Hogwart's goal was never to train an elite group of wizards but rather to serve the entire British wizarding community. So, in general, professors did not discuss these mysterious topics.

Only when a student asked would they reveal more advanced information. Other students, as student failures, only needed to know how to use it.

Now, Arthur had decided to study the essence of magic and study its more deep secrets. He had decided to begin researching ancient runes.

When he arrived at the library, he saw Madam Irma Pince, the librarian. She was a very possessive witch, and books were her life. Her eagle-like eyes spread over the crowd of people in the library from time to time.

Anyone who dared to flip the books rudely or make loud noises would immediately receive her cold stare.

Arthur entered the library and found a copy of "Introduction to Ancient Runes" in the general area. This book was used in the third year and would be used until the fifth year. For Arthur now, it was enough.

He then found a quiet spot and started reading. He hesitantly put the book back on the shelf only at dinnertime before leaving the library.

'It looks like I need to buy a copy of this book. Otherwise, it's too troublesome to come to the library every time to read.' Arthur thought to himself.

'But I can't use Furry, it's too noticeable. I'll have to borrow an owl from the Owl Post Office. But now is not the time. It looks like I'll have to go sneak out tonight.'

Arthur muttered to himself as he walked, planning to return to the library to read more books tonight.

When he arrived at the Great Hall, he found that Cho was already there and had saved a seat for him.

Arthur sat down, and soon his plate was piled with food, about three or four times more than Cho's plate, making a small mountain of food.

With a snort, Cho laughed.

"Arthur, why are you so hungry?" she asked.

"You should know that reading books is very mentally exhausting. I just came out of the library," Arthur replied, his mouth full of food.

"No wonder you're the little genius of Ravenclaw. You earned Ravenclaw's first points this school year," Cho teased him but still carefully brought Arthur a glass of juice to prevent him from choking.

Rolling his eyes at Cho's teasing, Arthur enjoyed his dinner.

After leaving the Great Hall, Cho had no classes in the evening and returned to the common room with some female classmates to play Wizard's Chess.

Meanwhile, poor Arthur had to attend the astronomy class at the Astronomy Tower.

The astronomy class in the wizarding world was actually not much different from the astronomy class in the Muggle world.

They used telescopes to observe the stars and learn about the different trajectories of the stars, which was not magical at all.

At 9 o'clock in the evening, Arthur, who had been staring at the stars until his head was feeling dizzy, returned to his room and threw himself onto his bed to rest.

"No, I can't be so lazy, I still need to go to the library," Arthur suddenly sat up, shook his head, and forced himself to woke up.

He needed to learn to cast spells without a wand as soon as possible, as having an extra trick up his sleeve could save him between life and death.

For most wizards, losing their wand meant certain death. Arthur did not want to leave such a weakness for his enemies to use, so he was determined to learn to cast a spell without a wand as quickly as possible.

In the middle of the night, Arthur decided it was time to go to the library, guessing that there wouldn't be anyone in the common room by then.

After cleaning up, Arthur cast a disillusionment charm on himself and walked out of the room, heading towards the common room.

He found that there was indeed no one in the common room, and Arthur breathed a sigh of relief. After all, there were still many students who liked to roam until late at night.

He walked out of the common room and into the hall. Arthur sneaked towards the library, not wanting to run into Filch and his cat.

The two of them, one person and one cat, were like the ghosts of this castle, walking around at night and searching for students who violated school rules.

Arriving at the library, Arthur picked up the book he had been reading in the afternoon. After hesitating for a moment, he decided to go to the Forbidden Section.

After all, the Forbidden Section was further inside, and in case someone came to check, he could hide in time.

He arrived at the corner of the Forbidden Section and took out his wand, casting a light spell before placing the wand aside and burying himself in the book.

It was the perfect book for him at the moment - ancient runes were words infused with magic, and each word's interpretation could be the basis for an entire book.

This book simply introduced some basic applications and interpretations of several basic runes, which was exactly what Arthur needed to improve his knowledge about the essence of magic.

Meanwhile...

"You idiot George, run faster! If you get caught by Filch because of you, I'll make fun of you for an entire semester."

"You stupid Fred, I just set a Dungbomb trap. Let's run towards the library."

A pair of red-haired twins were running in the hall, avoiding Filch's hunt.

However, there was no fear on their faces, only a playful grin after a successful prank.

They were running and playing at the same time, getting closer and closer to the library.

Meanwhile, Arthur's ears heard something, and he snapped out of his reading.

'Someone's coming?' Arthur tilted his head in thought, his hands still moving.

He stopped the light on his wand, cast a disillusionment charm on himself, and put the book back in its place before walking out of the library.

That's when he saw the Weasley twins running and playing, like two happy puppies, towards him. From behind, a Hogwarts administrator's angry voice could be heard.

"I know you're there! Don't let me catch you! I'll give you a full semester of detention!"

"..."

At this point, Arthur's head was starting to get a headache. He never expected someone to bring the devil, err, Argus Filch, into the library.

He had planned his tonight perfectly, but these two idiots had messed it up.

However, he had no intention of helping them. The twins were already in their third year and had plenty of experience dealing with Filch.

They didn't need anyone's help.

Since he couldn't read his book anymore, he decided to stay and watch them.
