It was midnight when Aman woke up in the common room, trying to figure out what he was doing there and it took him a few seconds to realize that for some reason he and his other three roommates were unable to find their dormitory.
The route to his bed was now clearly in his head unlike a few hours ago. He shrugged it off and stood up to head back to his bed so that he could sleep comfortably on the soft mattress instead of the hard wooden table.
When he reached the room, he saw all the other four of his classmates who were sleeping peacefully and headed to his bed. He saw Alex's face and suddenly had a feeling that the forgetfulness and confusion that happened a few hours ago should have been the work of the devil who shared the bunk bed with him.
All he did was sigh and headed to sleep as he was already half asleep and tired from all the practice and tests he had to go through. He was excited for the next day but he didn't really have the energy to think about it. He closed his eyes and a few seconds later, he was fast asleep.
Meanwhile, Alex was having a weird dream. He knew that it was a dream but at the same time, he was unable to control his body which felt like it was being controlled by someone else instead of him.
His translucent body floated in the air as it fixed its gaze upon a bunch of dragon corpses that had been mutilated into many pieces. There were four heads and one of them was big while the other three were small.
A well-dressed, tall man walked up to the corpses and crouched down near one of the small heads before looking at a few limbs and a torso that was closest to the head through his monocle.
"Hmm… whoever did this is a vile person. Forcefully breeding two different breeds of dragons and then killing off the mother along with the kids just because they have no wings…. Pitiful indeed. Hmm? This one's heart is showing fluctuations…. Let's see…"
He stood up and walked towards another corpse that was the farthest from the mother and directly thrust his hand inside the body, piercing through the skin like it was butter and pulling its heart out.
The small heart was pulsating, but there was no blood being pumped. The man simply shrugged and tapped twice on his monocle with his wand before pointing it at the heart and concentrating hard.
Almost a minute later, three hairlike muscle strands wriggled out of the organ and floated in the air in front of the man as Alex looked on from above. The man dropped the heart and gently let the strands land on his palm before putting them inside a small box that he conjured right then and there.
"Only three… if properly harvested, a single adult dragon gives about a thousand heartstrings but I guess this was an unexpected harvest. I'll let the execution department take care of this matter since this doesn't fall under my department anymore. I'll keep one of these and sell the other two."
Alex suddenly felt his body go out of control and fly randomly, only for his surroundings to change. He turned his head to the side and saw his friend staring at him.
"…. What's your problem?" he asked groggily as he rubbed his eyes.
"You have exactly five minutes to get to the ground. Professor Flitwick talked to the other professors and got us permission to skip the classes today. He also told us that he will be joining us soon."
Alex stood up and put on his clothes, making up his mind to take a bath after all the quidditch stuff was done for the day. He took Harry's nimbus which was standing against the wall and headed out with Aman in tow.
"What're the teams?" Alex asked, to which Aman replied with a shrug. "I simply checked if we were in the same team or not and the answer to that is that we are not in the same team."
"Alright then…"
The two headed to the ground and saw most of them on the grounds but they made two groups and stood separately.
Alex was about to ask Aman which one was their team but he got the answer when Su Li waved at them. The two of them headed to the group and saw that they were all discussing team tactics, which, in Alex's opinion wouldn't be too practical or useful.
"You should probably just play how you want. Picking the winning team is detrimental in the long run. I recon professor Flitwick will pick players from both the teams to form one final team that's way better than both the current teams."
"Well…. That's possible… but isn't it still a good thing to know about your team and, as a matter of fact, you are on the other team?" said a tall guy who seemed to be close with Roger Davies. Alex simply assumed that they were classmates and didn't bother to ask or remember his name as the guy's information wasn't given to him which indirectly gave him a feeling that he most probably wouldn't mess things up for him in the future.
"You do you then. I prefer playing aggressively and my role is a beater. Since I am from the other team, you guys can do your discussions here. I'll go sleep in the stands until Professor Flitwick gets here."
All of them nodded while Aman gave him dirty looks, which he happily ignored and headed to the stands and fell asleep as he basked in the warm morning sun.
It didn't take too long for the Head of the Ravenclaw house to come down running to the ground and the sudden silence woke Alex up from his light nap.
"Alright everyone, I'll be telling you how this whole selection process and the match works so do pay attention."
