Three times the charm

Fir, the robot, checked on the patient and left him with his medicine after ensuring that Dorion was fine. The cub continued to gaze at Ren with worried eyes.

"Ren?" it called softly, sensing the whirlwind of emotions coursing through Ren's mind. Though not experiencing them to the full extent, the little cub still felt enough to sense the fear and disgust coursing through Ren's veins.

"Derik Vitakis left the five minutes ago. Apparently, he needed to deal with something at work. So, you don't need to worry about him for the time being," The worried cub continued, "Are you... really...fine?"

"I don't think I am fine, little god." 

The cub panicked. Before it could rush Ren with more questions, it was grabbed by those sinful hands once again.

"I think I fell in love."

The cub's eyes widened with disbelief. The poor system was under so much tension that it even forgot to struggle when it was lifted to Ren's face. All the worry left little god's system and evaporated into garbage codes.

"Y-You, how can you fall for Derik? Are you a masochist? A pervert?"

This time it was Ren's turn to be speechless.

"Hell no! I fell for The King Yama I saw in my dream."

The system, "...." 

The next second Ren was scratched by the angry cub.

"You deserve to stay single for your entire life. This is the third person you fell for in three days!"

Ren tilted his head in confusion. 

"Three?"

"Sister Xander, Silvia Yarx and now this King Yama..." The irritation was visible in a suppressed childish voice.

"Oh, Three times the charm! Damn I am on a roll. And it is four days not three." 

Ren was smacked by the fluffy paw, causing him to collapse onto the soft bed. However, Ren never let the still struggling cub in his arms go.

Whenever Rummi would gush about certain characters, Ren would claim to have a crush on them just to halt Rummi's chatter. Otherwise, he would have to endure hours of stories about their greatness. Gradually, it became a habit for Ren to declare anyone above average as his crush. Of course, he never acted on these declarations. They were fake to begin with.

Ren's eyes were filled with a smile, "Thank you, little god," 

The system could hear the rhythmic beats and the myriads of emotions including but not limited to gratitude, happiness and love.

If the system Cub was in its humanoid form, then Ren would have seen a furiously blushing face. Fortunately, the cub's black fur easily concealed its blush—or so it thought.

Ren saw the swishing fluffy tail and twitching ears, tempting Ren to touch them.

The majestic cub declared, "It's fine. Don't say something useless to annoy me, or I won't help you again. Hmph!" 

The coiling tail of the cub prompted a peal of laughter from Ren's lips. The system ignored its stupid host's teasing and urged him to eat something.

Evolution demands a tremendous amount of energy, both mental and physical. The four to five days following an evolution are considered a critical period. Some individuals retain their powers, some lose them, and tragically, some succumb to the heavy toll on their bodies. Ren's body was already weak to begin with, and after evolution, it is in a constant dire state He needs to carefully nurse back to health so that the evolution won't take his life like many other cases. 

This was the reason Ren couldn't push Derik away earlier. Ren needs to begin practicing his mental powers, but it's not currently feasible. The system started rambling about exercises beneficial for the body, while Ren made a disgusted face at the mention of early morning jogging. One worried system and one careless human followed each other's advice, and just like that, they forgot the unpleasantness they had suffered before.

After taking a bath, and scrubbing his body, Ren finally felt the dirt was gone. The system cub saw the red scratches on Ren's pale cheek and neck. Some had even broken the skin, and tiny red droplets oozed out.

Ren's pale face, coupled with his quivering eyelashes, created an illusion of fragility so profound that any onlooker will be willing to offer comfort to such delicate beauty. However, the red droplets clinging to his cheek and slender neck, alongside the tiny water beads sliding down from those delicate collarbones disappearing into his neckline, could awaken the primal instincts hidden within even the most civilized of hearts, urging the beast within to emerge and lick them away.

The system couldn't understand whether it was the fragile beauty halo at its work, or its host was this charming. Howbeit, one thing was sure that it was grateful that no other person saw him like this. Who knows how many other crazy suitors Ren might gain?

The system, like a dedicated soldier bound to its duty, summoned a bottle of shimmering blue liquid and carefully applied it to the broken skin. It wasn't using its personal points to help its host because it was worried about Ren It was obviously because Merilyn told it to take good care of the host so they could update quickly.

Ren felt a cool sensation, unlike the stinging itch he was used to. He tilted his neck to facilitate the cub's actions with a slight smile.

Ren let the cub tend to his wounds while he silently ate the bland soup and salty vegetables to fill his stomach. The food in this world mostly consisted of boiled, bland, or salty tastes. With the spread of nutrient solutions, the necessity of eating has diminished. Only the wealthy indulged in food, while the poor survived on cheap solutions.

The middle class can afford food, but they are too busy and pick the easiest option. Dorion was surviving on these solutions. If it wasn't for the good quality of these solutions, Dorion would have become a stick figure by now. 

From another point of view, this can be considered a paradise for people who want to stay on the diet and lose weight and those humans who like to eat food with fewer spices. Unlike Ren who enjoys eating flavorful food. He wants to eat real food! 

On the wish list including finding a new home, a new job, and a killer, eating homecooked food became a top priority. Before going blind, Ren used to cook for him and his grandma. Later, it was Grandma who supported the useless adult version of Ren. This was something Ren regretted the most. The poor old lady has suffered because of him. He only hoped Rummi and Fu Xian wouldn't let her suffer in her old age.

Ren completed his set of exercises under the guidance of Mr. Glorin, which consisted of nothing more than walking and a few sets of jumping and other activities. It wasn't particularly difficult, but it still left Ren gasping for breath like a dying dog.

During these few days, Ren has been observing the profile of the victims.

The 137-year-old social media influencer was a person who had evolved from Level D to Level C. He showed the whole process online and ended up gaining many new followers. Level D and Level E are the levels which cannot pilot a mecha as it is considered insignificant levels in both mental and physical domains. 

Going from someone with no piloting qualities to someone getting a C-Level learning license. The fact was so glorious that normal humans don't dare to dream about it. Only after a year, this male was found dead near the back gate of the Eclipse Enforcer academy.

The second victim was a female doctor who was only 45 years old, which was considered quite accomplished at such a young age. Due to her outstanding abilities, she was chosen by the Nexus Wellness Institute. She had affiliated with the same hospital where Ren had been staying for the past two days Although, there had been no evolution according to the data shared by the system, the girl of mediocre capabilities suddenly toped in the class, leaving quite a room for imagination. Her body was found near the left wing of the academy. This place was very close to the teacher's resting quarters.

The third victim was a senior of Dorion who was pursuing a degree in mecha software engineering. The girl with the mental strength of level - B and the physique of level B+ was born with beauty and brains. There doesn't seem to be anything suspicious about her, nor was there anything linking her to the Brian chip or evolution which was common ground for the first two victims. 

As for the vague memory of the student found at the gate of the academy, Ren had no idea who could it be. While thinking Ren took the cub on a tour of the hospital building. He had a habit of looking at the structural frame of the buildings he usually visited. While taking a stroll he came across Director Griffin Yarx talking with Silvia Yarax and a freckled brown-haired teacher. It wasn't just these but a bunch of other teachers of Dorion's school discussing something. 

Ren vaguely heard them saying something about health checkups. There seems to be a yearly medical camp coming up next week. The freckled teacher talking to the director is in charge of this medical camp. Ren passed them before he was tackled by the yellow-haired beauty in another suffocating hug. 

When Ren was making a plan to take another trip to the academy the coming night, he never thought he would encounter the male lead again.

Black Box-

Ren, the now adult succubus, marked his targets and went for the hunt for the first time.

"Hello, Mr. do you mind if I buy you a drink?"

Kade Death, the newly crowned prince of angels pretending to be a simple demon, looked at the beauty, smiling with starry eyes, "Sure."

After three drinks, Ren sprawled over the table, "I want to.. prey.."

The angel prince chuckled at the drunken beauty and took him to his castle.

Ren, "Wait, where are you taking me?"

The angel prince threw the flailing succubus on his bed and smirked, "To show you what prey is."

Ren, "..." 

After that, there was a peace treaty signed between angels and demons thanks to the demon who sacrificed himself to angels for the wellbeing of the Demon community. Legends have it that the guards can hear the crying of a demon every night caged at the castle of the crown prince of angels.
