After seeing this happen two times already in front of them. It dawned on the crowd what the Lord of this City wanted. 

Many people and family came forward to swear the same loyalty to Lord Mano, in exchange for living in his city.

Mano allowed those who wanted to swear fealty, to be checked out by Mika. Those who were lying and deceiving them were tossed to the Shadow soldiers for them to handle. 

When the males and females who were sent by their clan leaders to secretly sneak into the city saw what was happening to their peers. They contemplated trying for themselves or cutting their losses and heading back to their clans.

Most chose to stay and try their luck, but when they too got caught they quickly regretted their decision.
