Chapter 4 You Cannot Retain What Is His

Amara's POV

"One day, you 're going to fall in love. When that day comes, make sure to know who he is. Not only from the outside but the inside. Men, men always hold secrets, you just have to be strong and courageous."

"Mother, why are you telling me this?" Her hands gripped my own, my eyes resembling hers. One green and the other brown.

"Because one day, I'm going to leave you... and you need to understand that it wouldn't be a choice for me. As a mother I have to protect you. From everything. The outside, towards the inside." I shook my head fighting my grip around her hands, afraid that if I let go. She would leave along. I needed her; she was my mother. She was my protector.

"Keep this necklace safe for me." I look down to see a small golden pendant, I nodded my head and dug it in her stomach as she strokes my hair.

"Delilah, you 're strong. You have to be, you are a fighter, you are the next heir to the Mafia. If you have the chance, kick your father of the reign and-"

I open my eyes a few minutes later noticing maids swarming the room cleaning it up, one of them came close to me and gave me a small smile before bowing he head. I raised my eyebrows in confusion. "Mrs De'Luca, if you would please head to the bathroom, breakfast should be served in a few moments." I raised my eyebrow at the sure name she called me.

"Just call me Amara, thank you." I said before heading to the bathroom across the bedroom.

I opened every single cupboard, from top to bottom only finding something to help me. That's when I notice the knife in the second draw underneath the sink. I slip it out and analyse it. Knowing if I do anything now, I'm going to fuck up bad. I shrug it between my breast and go back into the room. I noticed the maids have left; the door was being funded with. I walk towards it standing behind it before it pushes open. The man wearing a full seat walked inside holding a tray, as much as I didn't want to. I had to.

I slammed the door shut and walked behind him. He turns around linking his eyes with me and before I know it, I pull the knife and slice open his neck. He gagged onto his own blood dropping the tray as the glass shatters in every single direction of the room. He falls towards his knees the blood splattering along with the glass. I pulled open the door and stepped out locking the door behind me.

I made sure to analyse every direction as I held the knife against my thighs walking down the stairs of the mansion. I notice maids walking naturally. Three guards were banging on the door probably noticed the blood from the empty space. I feel someone bang my head right against the wall, I looked and saw another security guard. I plunged the knife into his stomach before grabbing his gun from the side of his pockets as I released the trigger into his guts. He sunk onto my shoulder.

I kicked his body away from my own and dashed it down the hallways trying to figure out where the door is, my heart was beating as I hear hundreds of footsteps. My foot make contact with the ground as I push myself further towards the door of the entrance. That's not before I feel someone jump on top of me causing me to fall hard onto the ground. The knife flew from my hands as he pushed my neck down. "You want to play that way?"

I grabbed his tie and pulled it over my shoulder before elbowing his face and turning him over as I straddled over his body. I slammed his head hard against the wooden floor as his hands were touching my face. I grabbed the gun from his side pocket and shot his head before turning to face the opposite end of the hallway.

Men were running as I released the trigger whilst standing up, my aims were amazing. Clearly thanks to my father's Mafia. The one thing he did right. I hear gunshots pierce the walls as I pull the handle of the door seeing the light strike. I turn once more pulling the trigger as I rush out.

Noticing there was clearly no way out I rush into the garden and hide behind the tall oak trees, my body covered in blood that wasn't my own. "FUCKING FIND HER!"

"Amara, I'm going to give you five seconds to show yourself, because when I find you... god forbids what happens to you." I hear Matteo's voice; I gulp as I sneakily turn my head to see his beautiful half naked body and his wet dripping hair. The joggers were sagely against his waist as he scoped his garden.

I let out a breath of fresh air before two hands wrap around my neck, my eyes widen when the gun gets knocked out of my hands and the streaming green eyes of Matteo looks down at my bloody face. "The chances with you," he slurs angrily, I grab his arms before using my other to elbow the middle of it. He tries to grab something before I dodge it and kick his lower abdomen as hard as I could. I punched him directly in the face. "I'm not hitting you Amara. I don't touch woman."

"Even better for me." I whisper as he stands up properly clearly unfazed by my attack. "You think you can kidnap me without a fight? I'm just going to be stranded-"

"Seventeen of my men are dead, there will be a punishment." I laugh loudly, almost psychotically as I aim the gun at him. "You clearly have been trained before, all of them have head shots."

"Then you should know what's coming for you."

"Oh, I do, but there's one thing you haven't been taught."

"What's that?"

"Never take your eyes of the enemy." Before I returned any words of my own my body drops to the ground as four men bring my arms to my back.

"It's sad. Having more than three men to restrain a woman."

'They don't retain what's mine."

Matteo's POV

Anger. That woman was going to be the death of me. The bodies were being wrapped and notices were being sent to the families. I look down at the maids cleaning the blood stains from the walls and the ground. I growled signaling one of my men to come to my side now. "Take that bitch to my office after she cleans up." He nods without hesitating as he leaves the lobby.

"That fucking woman killed seventeen of our men, why isn't she dead now!" I hear Francesco complain as he stands in front of me, my maid hands me my shirt as I slips it over my body walking away from Francesco unbothered to hear his nonsense. I button up my shirt on my way to the kitchen.

"Because she isn't." I answered simply.

"Matteo, are you fucking serious? She needs to be put to her death, the families-" I turn around my shirt halfway buttoned up as I grab Francisco's throat and pull him towards me. Undermining my authority and how I do things was a no. I didn't like people telling me what to do. I hated it. Despised it and I found it fucking disrespectful. I didn't care who you were.

"Don't ever tell me what to do, don't forget your place Francesco." I pushed him away from me as I continued buttoning up my shirt, pulling my sleeves towards my elbows as I stroll away from him towards my office. "Now get me my fucking coffee."

Amara's POV

"Wait in here." The man locked the door behind him as I stood in the office before me, it was beautiful, a simple yet rich office but very small.

I took Matteo for the big kind of guy. I walk towards the desk, sliding my hand against the oak woody tables. The walls were filled with books, books that have been touched before seeing their condition and the post sticks notes that were flinging out form the top and corners.

I find myself lifting papers off the table whilst munching on the toast that was on the table, the crumbs falling onto the ground causing me to curse. My hands continue flicking for something to help arrest this man when I stop a one letter. 'Matteo De'Luca' I look back down at the envelope, should I read it? It wouldn't hurt, I mean he did kidnap me after everything he's done, I deserve a snooping session. It's not like he's going to find out. I finish the last bit of the toast I found on the desk as I wipe my hands on the back of my trousers before sliding the cream- coloured letter out.

A fallen piece of paper fell onto the ground swiftly, I rolled my eyes bending over to pick it up when my eyes widen. It was a pregnancy scan? The date said '17 June 2017' Longtime ago almost four years ago.

I put the photograph on the wooden desk as I open the folded letter that left a crease line in the middle. My back settles on the back of the desk as my eyes graze onto the words.

Dear Matteo De'Luca,

If this letter finds you, I just want to say I love you and understand that you don't want me in your life again, it was nice having you in my life but I'm running away, far and I don't want you to lose the light within you. You will always be my best friend, I love you... but just before you scream and throw this paper away, I want to tell you something, something so important that you need to know-

Before I carry on reading, I hear footsteps and settle the paper back down to where it was, before leaving the door slams open and enters an angry Matteo stopping in his tracks looking at me.

"It's time fora small talk, don't you think Amara?"
