CHAPTER 36

DAVE'S POV

Inspector Spark sitting directly to Spark at an hotel in Abuja,as he hands over the sueing letter to Mr Dave

"So, She said we should stay away from the child?" Spark asking in disbelief.

"You know, that's not possible." Spark shake his head in disbelief, as he goes through the letter.

Dave looks up at Spark suddenly "I think I should meet up with my Daughter."

Spark stares at Dave with confusion "I don't think that's a good idea."

Dave relaxes on the couch as he drops the letter on the Table "The Girl in quote has been calling right?"

Spark clears his throat as he speaks "What if things escalates, and we end up loosing her."

"What do you suggest we do, We fold our arms, until Steph comes around?" Dave asks him .

Spark sits there in silence, Contemplating on what to do.

He finally speaks up "So what were you thinking we should do?"

Dave moves towards Spark "I think you should return her calls."

Spark was about to disagree to what Dave said, Dave cuts him short.

" I mean, Just this once Please, Let's hear what She has to say, Don't say anything concerning her Mom, try to draw her close, Maybe She could convince her Mom."

Spark didn't say a word, He found the idea appealing, but Would things play out in their favor in the end?.

He goes through his contact, He sees Magedelene's Number.

Dave relaxes on the couch once again, as the phone starts to ring out.

"Hello, Is this Inspector Spark?" The voice ask.

On hearing the voice, Dave smiles to himself and quickly comes closer to the Phone, Spark had placed on the Table. He knew that voice, She really sounds like her Mother.

"Yes Magedelene, Sorry it's taking me time to reach out to you." Spark replies, as He looks at Dave who nods his head for him to go ahead.

"Magedelene you must have called, because you had questions for me, Right?"

Spark Continues.

There was silence on Magedelene's end "You were saying something about my Dad, Can you tell me more about him."

Spark eyes meets with Dave, He could see the smile on his Face. He turns his direction to the Phone as he begins to speak.

"Magedelene, I am just an investigator on this case, But during the years I have known your Dad,

He is one the kindest man I know of, I can tell you for a fact, Despite all these years of all the effort and not locating you,

He never stopped looking for you, Even when there's wasn't hope, He gave me the strength to not give up on ever locating you."

Spark stops as soon as he notices Magedelene tearing up on the line, He looks over at Dave whose eyes was already Red.

"So why would my Mom keep me away from him so long." Magedelene askin a broken voice when her cry seizes

"Magedelene, I can't say for sure, But I am sorry to say this, I could have been wrong about all this, She might have had her reasons." Spark speaks to her gently

"I really don't know what and who to believe anymore." Magedelene says in frustration.

Spark goes silent this time for a while

"I shouldn't be saying this, but, Try and speak to your Mom about this."

Magedelene didn't say anything immediately "I will, Thank you so much." She says as the call ends.

Dave looks at Spark with his Red eyes "Thank you for putting in a good word about Me, I really am not proud of what I did." Dave tells him as he looks away.

Spark goes over to Dave and sits close to him on the couch and looks at Dave straight in the eyes

"Can I be honest with you, Mr Dave, I wasn't really interested in this case, Your I don't give up Spirit, that resilience, that Fierceness in you gave me strength to continue."

Tears starts flowing down Dave eyes, Sparks puts his Arm around Him and pulls him gently into a hug.

"Thank you for not giving up on the case." Dave tells him as they hug, He struggles to say the words.

"No, You did this, Mr Dave your Strength brought us here." Spark tells him gently.

Spark let's go off him, As they both sit in silence for a while.

"So What do we do now." Dave asks him.

Spark turns his face to him "I think we wait, let's just be hopeful."

Sparks stands up to leave, They shook hands as he leaves.

This is one of the first time, Dave had ever been alone, Since he got Married to Mary.

He remembers how they met, they were College Sweetheart. He smiles at the thought of that.

Then his mind wanders to Magedelene Mom, How they met, it was really brief,

Sophie was the kind of woman who could challenge any Man intellectually, She knew she was one of a kind and she made everyone around her knew it.

When they had sex, He and Sophie was in a very vulnerable state.

He was having issues with Mary, and Sophie was recently going through a divorce.

When She found out about their baby, She came to him and told him,

Then He and Mary was working through their issues.

Sophie had already concludes she was gonna keep their child. She wasn't there to destroy his marriage, She even said He could be in the child's life if He wanted to.

Then the last memory of her in the hospital flashed through his mind.

Her last word rings through his mind "Choose the baby....choose... her"..She said.

Dave stands up immediately, He quickly grabs a sheet of paper and scribbles down a Phone number on the Paper.

He picks up his phone, as he dials the number.

She picks up at the Fourth ring,

"Hi..... Hello..." She says on the line

"Who is this?" She says again. Dave didn't dare say a word to Magedelene. It could compromise their Case,

He was scared of what she would say about him, or say to him.

He needed to hear her voice again, He needed to hear his Daughter's voice again.

He looks at the phone once more as he hangs up.
