Chapter 67

It was exactly four days after the dinner with Eli's parents and the official day for Elaine's infamous annual party. Those four days had been too quiet in Helen's opinion. She didn't know why but expected something bad to happen by now or maybe tonight is when it would occur.

Whatever happens tonight when she crosses paths with more of Eli's family, friends, and people he disliked, she made a promise to enjoy the night. Eli was right with her being too nervous all for nothing just like when she went to dinner with his parents. She just needed to be herself and deal with people like she always did, not letting them walk over her.

Helen was sure from the first meeting with Tara and Clara at Essence, she wouldn't be walking into the party meeting a whole new bunch of friends. But that was alright. She preferred to keep her circle small and trustworthy.
