Joining a team

I was sitting in my cubicle that they gave me, it was tiny, with a computer and some stationery. But there was a feeling in my chest that I was over the moon for having my own space to work. I could not believe that I was in an office and had a cubicle of my own. I had not known that this tiny thing would bring so much joy.

I reminded myself that I was only working here for like 2 months, and one week is already over, after the engagement of the witch princess is over, I will be gone. There is no need to get excited about something so small. It is just a job.

I was staring intently at a map that was laid in front of me. How did he escape? The vampire, that was killing the people. I had looked for something that was his, something he might have left in that shed, so that I could track him using a spell. But the shed was completely burned. There was only ash left. He was through in his other killings too. They were too clean for someone who had supposedly gone rogue. There was no trace left behind, only bodies, drained of blood. No one even noticed the victims missing. It seems like he planned it thoroughly.

There was something that wasn't adding up. How did he manage to kill 30 people? And 5 people from the same town. It was a small town but everyone in it was a skilled person. How were they not able to catch him, no matter how planned he is? If they had banded together, they could have easily overpowered a vampire.

We don't even know who the vampire is and what his motive might be. It has been 15 days already since he started killing and no one has been able to find him, it might have been a different matter if he was targeting people from far places, he had been staying close to Starfall and has only been attacking people from the nearby towns. Meaning he might be in the Starfall. But someone would have been able to catch him.

I closed my eyes leaning back in the chair, as a heavy sigh escaped me. Will I be able to do it? This seems like it was a bit too much, too many lives on stake, too many already killed. Will I be able to stop him? I have never done this before.

Taking a deep breath, I calmed myself, why am I getting anxious over some thirsty little vampire, Nyx would have caught him already. And I have her experience so I will be able to do this with ease.

As Nyx is an assassin, I know just how hard it is to stay out of the security cameras and the cops, even when Nyx has the powers of a demon and a witch. How was he able to do it so easily? There must be someone who was helping him. I think it would be good if we only knew the vampire's real identity.

"Liza wants to see you." a witch with piles of files flying in front of her said as she passed my cubicle. She was not even looking at me she has her focus on the file in her hands, she must be in the research team they could always be seen like that or staring at their computers, they never look at anyone, you tell them what you need they will give you what you need, never making eye contact.

But I know she was talking to me because there is no one near me, everyone is out for some mission, though half of them went to guard the royals that arrived for the crowning ceremony, I heard that the elf princess just arrived the ceremony has two weeks until to start, they had to send 4 teams out after that news. It was hectic. Yama, Enzo, and even Diana have been really busy, we hardly talk, we sometimes say hello in the corridors. That's it.

I was going to go to her office but fortunately I found her before I could go all the way to there. "Morana! Good," she said nodding to herself as she ticked something off in the tab, in her hands.

"There are two groups that are here now, and you will have to accompany one of them, you will just have to record every detail, I think Andrea taught you that on your last mission?" I nodded, as we headed towards the weapons room.

I have to record everything and make sure I save it. Andrea made sure to press the fact that saving it is more important than recording it. It will be simple and easy.

"I think this will be the best team for you to join." she said as we entered the weapons room. There are all kinds of weapons in here, everything a person needs, and I know how to use every weapon, thanks to Nyx. There were four people in here, the first person that I saw was Sharon, great. This is the best? She was smiling, looking at someone while picking some potions from the table, which made me narrow my eyes, why is she smiling? I followed her eyes to see her staring at someone whose back was turned to me.

But I knew who it was. Everyone knows who it was, I stopped in my tracks, there is no way the two people I would rather not face are here, and I have to work with them? As if sensing my gaze he turned, and we came face to face, I had not seen him since that dance, I have actually, that is how I made sure that he could not see me by constantly following him with my eyes.

A slow smile pulled on his face as he saw me. There was a mischievous glint in his eyes, like he knows what I have been up to.
