Chapter 48

I stopped in my tracks, my heart pounding in my chest. Nick's name hung in the air, a heavy reminder of the danger that lurked around us. I turned to face William, my eyes filled with both fear and determination.

"What do you mean? What's happening to Nick?" I demanded, my voice trembling.

William's face darkened, his brows furrowing as he struggled to find the right words. "It's complicated," he finally replied, his voice laced with urgency. "But you have no choice but to keep doing what you started."

I rushed to him and grabbed him by his collar. "Tell me, or I'll make sure you regret it," I threatened, my grip tightening. The desperation in my voice was evident as I searched for any clue that could save Nick.

William's eyes darted around nervously before he let out a heavy sigh. "I want you badly, Heureu. And if I have to eliminate Nick, I will."
