Cathy had just finished her meal, tidied up the dining table and went to wash the dishes. She was unaware that she was smiling, thinking of how sweet Jon is to her. He made sure she came home safe, came in the next morning to share breakfast with her, even though there had been more than enough people to assure her safety.
Her mother is in the hospital, she is in an executive suite because Jon insisted on paying for everything. She tried to refuse the offer at first, but Jon was like a four-year-old who would throw tantrums if he does not get to pay for her mother's hospital bills.
Jon's phone rang. It was his dad. "I went to visit you, but you weren't here, neither at work." Jon stood up, walked away and went out to the porch. Jon managed to explain about what had happened and that he needed to help someone report a break in. "It is my responsibility, as an employer, to treat our people like family," he tells his father, but Keith objected. "It is a responsibility of the police to make sure everyone is safe. It's your responsibility to treat everyone equally." His voice now commanding, "Well, she is.." He did not wait for Jon to finish. "a receptionist. And you, Jonathan are my son. I am hoping not to hear news about this fling that you are having." "Dad, I am old enough to make my own decisions." Jon told his father, his smile turning into a frown. "May your decisions not hurt our reputation as a family. Bear in mind that you are Jonathan Albertson, you will be replacing me, George Keith Albertson and you have a public image to protect. I'll be seeing you tomorrow. Finish what you need to, find a woman who could be your wife." His father hung up without saying goodbye. He comes back to Cathy's living room, frowning. He knows for sure that his father is an expert in the field of business, "But she is not like the others," he told himself. He had a lot of dates, and he is sure that Cathy is unlike the rest who are after his inheritance. Upon going back inside, he tried his best not to show it, but she asked him, noticing the change in his mood. "Is there anything wrong?" Without a word, Jon pulled her right arm and placed it under his left. He hugged her tightly, as she has without a clue of what his father wants. She pulled out and asked him, "what is the matter, Jon?" "For the first time, I am going to decide for myself. I shall protect you, my Catie," he said while looking at her eyes. He stroked her hair, She asked him jokingly, "Your Catie? Am I even yours to begin with?" He smiled, and as Cathy was about to say something, "Jon, I.." He held her chin with his right hand, grabbed her waist with his left and kissed her on the lips. Cathy was shocked, her eyes broaden. She moved her lips away from him, but he buried her face in his hands and kissed her again. She then hugged him as tight as she could while they kissed.
