Nathan

I walk into our apartment and go to my room. My father isn't home yet so I decide to start on my homework, I fell asleep and wake to my father yelling at me. Apparently Principle Adler had called my father at work and I knew I was about to get it.

I lay on my stomach because it hurts to sit down, he didn't even bother to aim or to watch how hard he swung or how many times even. He hit me with the belt until I bit my hand trying to stop a scream.

The next morning, I limp into the kitchen, grab my school stuff and slam the door without even caring to eat or say goodbye. My day goes on pretty normal, more homework and detention. As I go home my father chooses not to acknowledge the fact that every time I move my legs or sit down I wince in pain. I see Principle Adler in the halls and can't help the feeling of hate that washes through me.

As the day drag on, the angrier I become at my school, my home life, and especially my father. I begin to not care what my grades look like hoping he'll be angry enough to do something else but nothing happens. I sit quietly, choosing only to speak when spoken to most of the time. I learned that the boy I stuck up for and got detention for and got a beating for hasn't had anymore bullying problems. I also found out his name, Nate. Nathan Piers. We sit together in silence at lunch and during sixth period, his silent companionship makes me feel like it was worth it to help him.

My best friend Ambrose finally comes back to school, he sits with me and my Nate and helps keep the silence I've noticed something different about Ambrose but haven't been sure enough to ask what it was.

As the weeks past, I began to grow more and more numb, on this particular day, my life seemed to go to hell in a hand basket, flames and all. It started like this....

I woke up and went to school, made it through first period normally, second period, no problems. Fourth and fifth went by with normalcy too. Then as I was walking down the hall from Professor Holiday's fifth period class I'm slammed into my locker. I drop my books and wince in pain. I look up and see none other than the boy whose face I smashed defending my Nate, Dalton Greene looks down at me smirking. His group of lackeys behind him crowded around in a circle so he doesn't get caught. He grabs me by my hair and yanks me up, he then punches me in the face, at first I decide to just take the beating and go on with my day, but something inside me burned. I was surprised how good it felt to me after feeling nothing the past month, I opened my eyes and lashed out at my attacker, he screamed in pain or terror, I don't know which, and honestly I don't care. The more infuriated I became the hotter the burning feeling increased, there was an alarm going off and then water fell down like rain from the ceiling. I immediately noticed how the water vaporized around me and looked down at my hands and saw that they were bright red and my hands turned into flames, I began to smell smoke.

I turned and ran away from the building as fast as my legs would carry me, as I turned to look back I saw that my side of the school was on fire and blazing hotter by the second. I scream in horror as I realize that the school is burning because of me, I look down at my hands and they're surprisingly back to normal. I feel dizzy and collapse on the ground, panic overtakes me.

I feel someone pick me up with what seemed like ease and he begins mumbling things and telling me it'll be ok.

I shift so I can see the person whose running and look into the familiar deep golden eyes of a brown-black haired boy I know all too well. I gasp in shock as I look into the eyes of Nathan Piers.
