The Peninsula Suite

Halia returned to the ballroom just as Emerson finished his dance with Marissa. After they bowed politely at each other, Marissa tried to hold Emerson back for another song, but Emerson spotted Halia and quickly excused himself.

Marissa glared at Halia and stormed over to a waiter to grab a glass of champagne. Who was that woman? She had never seen her before.

As she held onto her glass of champagne, she turned to one of her friends and asked them about Halia. It didn't take long for her to learn that Halia was the infamous daughter of the chairman of Fengtai Corporation. This discovery made her scowl. Sure, she was a millionaire with an inheritance that her husband left for her, but she was what people considered as 'new money'. On the other hand, Fengtai had been around for generations. They were one of the most influential families in the alcohol trade in China. Everyone that was anyone knew about them and even the rich tried to suck up to them. This made Marissa furious.

As she glared at Halia, she strutted across the ballroom towards her like a model on a runway. She was very confident with her body and she loved any attention she could get. Just as she got close enough, she pretended to trip, pouring the champagne in her hand all over Halia's long curly hair and the front of her chest. Everyone in the ballroom gasped. Marissa regretted for a moment that she wasn't holding a glass of red wine.

"Oh, I'm so sorry," Marissa said as she began to pull Halia towards the door. "Let me take you to the bathroom to get cleaned up."

Halia looked at the woman and noticed a slight smirk on her face. This woman obviously did it on purpose.

With a gentle nudge, she pulled the woman away from her body. "That's OK, I just live upstairs. It's getting late, I should be leaving anyway," she said with an elegant smile. She was originally planning to ask Emerson a few questions about Thomas to see if he knew that his new assistant was a junket, but it seemed, she couldn't do that now.

At that moment, a man in a suit quickly ran in holding a towel and bowed to Halia. "Miss Feng, please let me assist you back up to the Peninsula Suite," he said courteously.

A few people gasped when they heard this. The Peninsula Suite was the most expensive room in the hotel and it was reserved for the most prestigious of guests. On a night like this, with an event in their own ballroom, the price must have skyrocketed. Plus, how far in advance did she have to book for this coveted room?

Actually, Halia's father had originally planned to attend the event, so he had already booked the accommodation well in advance for himself. When Halia decided to attend on his behalf, it was such late notice that he couldn't cancel in time, so he kept the reservation. Luckily, it was put to good use in the end when his daughter actually requested for help.

Marissa glared at Halia.

"I heard the Peninsula Suite comes with its own 24-hr butler," one of the guests squealed as she pointed to the man that had run in. "I never knew the butlers here were so handsome."

"It's OK, Victor. Thank you for the towel, I can make my own way up to the room," Halia replied to the young man that was standing in front of her.

"Yes, Miss Feng. If you require a drycleaning service, you can call me on the phone and I'll come to collect your dress for you. Would you like me to bring you a hot tea?" the butler offered.

"No, that's fine, Victor. I'll call you if I need anything," Halia said as she dried her hair with the towel and continued walking out of the ballroom.

Marissa wanted to embarrass Halia, but somehow, everyone was even more amazed by her.

"She's so polite and humble," one of the guests praised. "I always thought she didn't attend events because she was a snob."

Marissa was annoyed.

But, at least, she managed to remove Halia from the ballroom and have Emerson to herself. With a smirk, she began to look around for the man. However, he was nowhere to be seen.

At that moment, there was a bit of commotion near the door as a few young women peered into the corridor outside.

Marissa glanced over curiously.

"It's Emerson," one of the girls squealed.

As soon as Marissa heard this name, she ran over to see what was happening. But, when she looked out into the corridor, she clenched her fists in anger.

Emerson had just covered Halia with his suit jacket and the two of them were walking into the elevator together.

"Are they a couple? They look so good together!" a young woman exclaimed.

"I saw them dancing earlier," another woman joined in.

Marissa furrowed her brows as the elevator door closed.
