"Here, this is a ring I've been saving for my future daughter-in-law. Since everyone is here son, why don't you grant me my wish before I die?" the old man said as he shoved the ring into his son's hands. "It would make me so happy."
Emerson looked at the ring in surprise. Even if he and Halia had really started dating since last month, marriage was much too soon.
"Dad, this is too sudden," he said.
"Don't you like Halia?" his father asked.
Emerson glanced at Halia and nodded his head. He couldn't deny that he did like her. He had liked her since they were kids.
"Then, you better make her your wife before someone else does," the old man said.
Emerson held onto the ring and suddenly felt that his father was right. Perhaps, he had been too patient and careful. Maybe, it was time to be brave and direct.
He glanced at Halia again and Halia looked at him with confusion. What was he thinking? Why wasn't he rejecting his father's request?
