Hellish Oblivion

Carl woke up in hell. What make it worse is that he forgot to turn off the stove when at home before he died. The rest are consequences of his actions. (This is my first novel or short story. Chapter 5

Walking along side the walls was not quite pleasant for Carl. The heat releasing from the crack of the walls were making him dizzy, blurring things in front of him from from illusion to reality. He saw the cactuses growing near the base of walls. Those cactuses were as big as pine trees but he seems to pass them through like they were small plants, without him needing to go around due to the reasons being tired enough to not care.

"Going around to these things is nothing but burden. This is a waste of time. I'd rather get stabbed and impaled from side to side than to pay respect to these stupid plants. Not like I can die in this world anyway", he thought to himself as he tottered on his way.

The hallucinations gets thicker and thicker as the more he walked alongside the walls' heat. He started to see things that his body desperately need. Rains pouring down heavily, the sand particles in the air begins to taste like sugar, heat radiating from the wall cracks getting cooler, the ground he marching on feels softer than pillows. And sometimes he even sees himself arriving his home and turned off the stoves then lives happily ever after. But those were none other than the living dreams of an already dead man walking almost aimlessly.

His reality constantly shift back and forth. He sometimes feel like he's flying and wonders if he was actually hopping between dimensions. Other times, he sees nothing at all but an endless void where he frequently forgets what his objective was.

His legs are still moving like they are only body parts with common sense. His body no longer looks like that of human but pale, burnt and malnourish goblin. The nonstop grit of teeth has now become his fixed expression without anyway to undo it. He passed through some guard tower but everyone there mistook him as some hellborn demon spawn instead of a sinner they supposed to be found. All of his entire being looks nothing like his original self but one. Only one remains unchanged. His goal.

All of those efforts, all of those struggles finally pay off when he encounter something just as he expected... A gate.
