Hell's Emissary - The Legendary Tamer

My skin bears reminders of yesterday. They are roadside markers of my trips and falls, remnants I intend to burn to ashes, place in an urn and bury somewhere. People tell me to move on. Build a bridge. Get over it. When you clench your teeth and forge ahead you convince yourself the mind can be a clean slate untainted by dark colors of past trauma. You pretend that your skies will always be clear. A palette of gold and red, sunrise and sunset. Yet in sunshine a dark shadow lingers behind us every step. Our shadow wilfully follows, keeps pace with every step. I unclenched my teeth, ran my fingers along my scars. They whispered to me. I listened. I held hands with my shadow, now we walk together. Some scars never heal but how else could I know the way forward?.. So, I claim this body, this mind, this life as my own. And while I wish to share this life in kindness, compassion and empathy with others, I will not hesitate to defend when threatened. ... "...and when you wake in the morning finding that you still lie in hell, lick your lips, spit on the flames, and walk on through the fire."

New Master

"I can't provide for what you are asking me of..." I answered the dog as a dread washed over me.

I knew what it was asking for as anyone could just figure out what it is even if they were clueless. This was way beyond any imagination from what I had thought.

{Think about it boy... Do you think it's normal for humans to communicate with animals?.. Did you ever think that a day like this would happen, here on earth... Just think of it, boy...} The dog insisted as it saw that I was refusing.

"This is insane... I can't be a part of your little schemes. If you are here to serve me, then do just that but don't make me lose focus only for you to pounce on me again..." I responded as I shuddered again from just the mere thought of what it just said.

Fear and dread were all around as flashes of memories clouded my vision making me see only the torment that was happening to someone that was chained away in a great abyss filled with a raging inferno.

The place looked similar as if I had been there once. And the man, tears fell as I just couldn't process the unimaginable pain that he was suffering from the unending screams of horror that escaped through his mouth.

Blood dripped freely from the deep cuts that covered his whole body and they evaporated as soon as they fell near the fire.

It was a gruesome and disturbing memory that made my skin crawl. And the weird thing was that as far as I could see, people of different sizes and gender were suspended on air by the thorny chains that bonded them just there, helpless and powerless as all suffered the same fate as the man in front of me.

{Focus boy... I know you can see it, our home. Just tell us, follow the path up to the world and tell us what you see...} The dog's voice reverberated again in my mind making me fall to my knees while holding my head with both hands as waves after waves of unimaginable pain washed over my mind making me feel like I was just dipped into a frying pan full of cooking oil.

"If you continue doing this I'll make you regret the day that you laid your eyes on me." I warned with gritted teeth as I commanded the lance to create a dome around me so that I couldn't be taken advantage of when I was at my lowest.

The whole arena was cheerful just a moment ago but now, even the air was thin as everyone gazed at the unearthly occurrence that was taking part down in the arena.

They expected something magical to happen again as they first saw Lucifer gliding through the air when he entered the arena. And again the protector was hit by an invisible force just as it was about to torn Lucifer with its cerberian teeth. And whatever upper hand that Lucifer had a while ago, was now gone and only replaced with him kneeling on the sands holding his head.

And if that wasn't weird at all, the fact that the sand and air combining to form some kind of a shield for him was just unthinkable.

"A sorcerer!" Many exclaimed as that was the only reason for all the weird displays that took place since they took their seats in the arena.

"He has a guardian angel looking after him." Others thought of the most absurd things just to feed their curiosity and questions to their hearts' content.

{Mmmh! I must commend you on these impressive thinking capabilities, young boy... But let me give you a word of advice, at least made the lance visible for the crowd to see if you want to be remembered for centuries to come...}

I heard the voice again as I opened my eyes slowly only to be met by a blinding pillar of air and sand that seemed to be twirling around me without any resistance.

With just a thought, the lance stopped for a second and became visible then continued to twirl around at unimaginable speed. At that juncture, it all came clear to me as I saw it blur from one place to another.

The lance was rotating at a high speed thus creating a superb dome that nothing could enter or leave at will.

Another applause caught my attention and I seized the charade before summoning the lance into my hand.

{Wow! Now that's a scary look you have there... I didn't think you were strong enough to pull out this early... Your eyes...} The dog's voice trailed away as I looked directly at its blazing eyes.

The dust was yet to settle completely but I could see the spark that flashed across its eyes. It was just the same as the first time but now they burned with lust, rage, rampage, and so on.

While gazing at the different heads, I could make out the desires that they held dearly.

One after another I gazed deeply as I knew something was amiss.

"What's wrong with my eyes?" I asked as I couldn't even figure out where I got the courage to stare at the enormous dog from.

{They are... They look like our previous Master's when he was filled with rage.} The right head explained as a look of recognition flashed across its eyes.

{I am sorry for acting so brazenly just now... This lowly servant asks for the Master's forgiveness.} It continued to quiver as it slowly lowered its head in a sign of submission.

I was shocked by the sudden change of events but I could not be more proud as I thought that we would make a great team if we ventured out together. Now the only problem was the other heads that were still gazing at me.

I could not help but shake slightly as I knew that even if it was just one head looking at me, it still had the capacity to rip me apart in just one bite.

"Now who will answer my question? I hate waiting..." I commanded with a strong voice that made the whole arena settle down from whatever discussions they were having.

{... Eer... Forgive us, Master, it is just that we have never expected to meet someone so young and capable at the same time...} The center head added as it lowered its head following what its brother had done just a moment ago.

{So, your eyes resemble those of our old Master back when we were still residing in Hell... That's why I asked you to find a way for us so that we can return but now I know how you came back...}

{You are not our Master and maybe you'll never reach his level but for you to come back with blazing eyes, only means that you have been chosen to represent the underworld and do its bidding on earth... You are destined for great things, and with that, we offer ourselves to you...}

{Our only wish now is to serve and protect you as we bring hell on earth... Please be our Master...} The third head explained as it slowly lowered its head.

This was just hilarious. I was just thinking of how I would feel if I had a dog of this size that I could call my own and take with me wherever I went.

But I think that the gods are on my side as they bestowed to me this wonderful blessing in disguise.

"I accept." I declared as a wave of energy enveloped my body and I felt a soothing and friendly sensation that washed away the fear that I previously had for the dog.

With that, I stepped forward and patted its three heads, and played with the thick mane that runs to its back.

I was so small that it had to slightly lower its heads for me to just do that. But the results that I got were so pleasing that I felt like I was floating in mid-air with two wings attached to my back.

Cheer! Cheer! Cheer!

Cheer! Cheer! Cheer!

Cheer! Cheer! Cheer!

The crowd erupted with some joyous sounds of celebration as they saw the most unexpected occurrence that never crossed their minds at all.

After a long moment of celebration and happiness, the crowd died down as Heaven rose to her feet again.

On the other hand, I was just casually conversing with the dog about the most gruesome and ruthless things that it has ever witnessed.

"If I could have your attention please..." A smooth but commanding voice traveled across the arena with ease as everyone turned their attention to the princess.

I looked up at that time as I was just engrossed in the stories that I forgot where I was. At that time, I remembered why I was there, and in my mind, I cursed as the thought of the other two remaining beasts popped up in my mind.

"We are very pleased indeed." Heaven continued as she looked straight into my eyes.
