Hell's Emissary - The Legendary Tamer

My skin bears reminders of yesterday. They are roadside markers of my trips and falls, remnants I intend to burn to ashes, place in an urn and bury somewhere. People tell me to move on. Build a bridge. Get over it. When you clench your teeth and forge ahead you convince yourself the mind can be a clean slate untainted by dark colors of past trauma. You pretend that your skies will always be clear. A palette of gold and red, sunrise and sunset. Yet in sunshine a dark shadow lingers behind us every step. Our shadow wilfully follows, keeps pace with every step. I unclenched my teeth, ran my fingers along my scars. They whispered to me. I listened. I held hands with my shadow, now we walk together. Some scars never heal but how else could I know the way forward?.. So, I claim this body, this mind, this life as my own. And while I wish to share this life in kindness, compassion and empathy with others, I will not hesitate to defend when threatened. ... "...and when you wake in the morning finding that you still lie in hell, lick your lips, spit on the flames, and walk on through the fire."

Legendary Beasts

"Loosen up now, you can all cheer up... Everything is fine now." Heaven addressed as she saw that the people had the same look since the flatulist was consumed in one bite only.

Only fear could make these people who had the numbers in them that numb.

Clap! Clap! Clap!

She started clapping in support and soon a thunderous applauding could be heard across the whole Kingdom.

People wondered what was going on in the arena as it was only a few minutes ago that everything was dead silence, and now, this!

The other citizens couldn't help but start speculating on whatever they thought of just to make it bearable until they could be told of the real facts that happened.

"Now, now, now... If I had known better that I would be welcomed like this, then I would have rewarded everyone with a special token. But seeing that we are in the middle of something, you seem to be all out of luck but I will compensate it with the wonderful feasting that you are about to witness..."

Woo! Woo! Woo!

The crowd criticized just even before the princess could finish her speech.

"Okay, I guess I can't cry over spilled milk... Now let's get ready to welcome the third and last beast..."

With a wave of her hand, the guards responsible for opening the large heavy doors proceeded to pull the heavy chains but nothing happened as the chains came free after just one pull.

Click! Clunk!

Two massive chains slammed down on the paved corridors inside the stadium forming two metal mounts but the sound was enough for all the ears present to hear.

The high hierarchy of the Kingdom that was present knew that something bad was already happening as soon as they heard the sound.

The chains were broken, and in that at the same time. It was like saying that someone was teasing you in a brawl as there is nothing of the like in sensitive matters like those.

Pin drop silence filled the atmosphere inside the stadium.

It was just like a norm now as they would be cheering at a certain time and they would be thinking of leaving the stadium in the next as they couldn't hold the suspense.

"Open the doo..." Nevaeh shouted as her face contorted from the displeasure that she was feeling but in the next instance, her words were stuck in her throat.

Everyone's sight quickly turned to look at the third massive doors that were now producing black smoke so thick that the people's heart skipped a beat just by gazing.

Something was clearly burning the beast as the temperatures rose steadily with the rising sun.

But whatever happened, no unruly sounds of a beast came out and the people had another kind of premonition as they thought that whatever was able to withstand the temperatures, it was just as sinister as the other beasts who were already in the arena.

I also looked at the burning door just before it exploded outwards in a splash of rocks, metal, and burning timber.

After that, a searing heatwave followed closely but this time it covered the whole stadium as everyone shrieked in the spots with a look of horror.

Throughout the whole ordeal, only one person stayed composed and cool as if nothing was out of control.

Nevaeh stood still while watching a ball of red-orange flames slowly emerge while floating in mid-air.

I was so focused on the ball of fire not to notice that Cerberus had already walked to my side.

{Nothing here is right, Master... In my opinion, I'd say that you did an unspeakable thing to be subjected to such cruelty... Every beast here is by every margin, legendary.}

"Mmmh, legendary?.. What does that even mean?" I asked as I looked sideways only to meet with Cerberus's right head.

"It's good that you are not dead." I added as I stroked the mane on its head.

{Nothing can kill me as death even fears me for the Master I used to serve in the underworld... And am a legendary creature too, and that means we are immortal.} Cerberus's left head replied as it watched the ball of fire closely as if to explore its weakness.

"So, in short, is that I am doomed?!" I inquired again as I gazed at the ball of flames that had now flown over to the center of the arena and it just stood still as if watching everything around it.

{Don't worry Master, we'll protect you with our lives but it will be so troublesome.}

"Yes, I know... From the serpent's impenetrable scales to its speed and attack power, it's a beast we can't tackle. and now, this... A ball of fire, how can we just fight with fire if we don't want to get ourselves burned to crisp."

{Yes you are right in that, but we can't perish here. We'll do whatever it takes to hold them off... And as long as it's your fate to be here, then we are glad to be by your side.}

"Thank you." I answered so humbly as different kinds of emotions washed over my body.

The ball exploded outwards and a ring of flames traveled all across. People shivered as it was that the ring of flames would burn a potion in the middle of the stadium but before the people could start to escape the intended area, the ring of flames died down.

The sight was magnificent but also blinding as I covered my eyes with my hand.

The heat was another thing as the temperatures continued to rise steadily as time went by.

People could not hold for much longer as their bodies started to glow in the morning sunlight as beads of perspiration adorned their bodies.

"So do legendary creatures have this unparalleled power in them?" I inquired as I looked down to the lance in front of me.

{Yes, in a way you can say that... But the reason why they are called legendary is that that; they were created in the age before man himself. And second is that they have limitless potential in them if explored properly.}

"And what do you have to make you a legendary creature as the serpent has a great defense, speed and attack power while the ball of flames has... flames, I guess, which can burn shit up." I wondered out loud as I speculated that there should be something that made Cerberus a legendary creature. Something that could make him go toe to toe with at least one of the other creatures.

{I don't know much myself as my previous master didn't explore my full potential as he was already really strong and formidable at that time... I only know that I have an affinity to fire as I was raised in the underworld and no other kind of fire can match up to anything in hell.} Cerberus answered as I listened intently.

"So that means that right now you are only useful because of... even I don't know. But you sure look frightening I can give you that." I responded frankly as I knew that whatever happens next, I am doomed.

At least I could have used the lance to fly away but now that one of the beasts was able to levitate, the chance of escaping grew slim with each thought.

On the other side of the arena, Sir. Mountain stood still as he just gazed at the different kinds of creatures in the arena.

For a man of his caliber, he has seen worse but whatever was just in front of him combined, it was diabolical. He exactly knew what these creatures were as he had participated in their capture and rearing but looking at them now, they were just indifferent as they seemed to not even recognize him.

Even from Cerberus, it was so much to receive the cold shoulder and he decided it was best to leave the arena as nothing good was bound to happen.

After locking the door behind him, The Mountain continued his way up to the previous position beside the nobles.

Gazing up at the sky to the ball of flames that was docile for a while, Nevaeh spoke in a finality tone as just as the most beautiful thing so far in that morning occurred.

"Sound horn..."

Booooo!

The dazed crowd went mad as they heard the sound of the horn blowing. In all the while, that marked the official start of the fight.

"... Let the fight begin!.." Nevaeh had a blooming smile on her face when she sat down.

The eerie silence from earlier evaporated instantly as the people were filled with anticipation though they knew the fight wouldn't be long as Lucifer will be consumed in the blink of an eye or burned to crisp.

After the horn blew, the ball of flame slowly vanished only to be replaced with the most beautiful winged creature that I have ever seen in my short life.
