Hel and the Emerald Sky City

[Mature Content] ||| This is a fantasy soulmates romance set in an Urban setting with lots of deeply traumatic backstories and many deaths on the way, in a magical ancient academy, and with one of the main plots being revenge. There are countless types of mythical creatures and all coexisting in our very world. ||| Torture is all I’ve known for two thousand years. Not because I’m the one causing it, which ain’t the case, but because since the old reptile, Dragon Queen Meredith Bloom and her daughter in law, Crowned Princess Philippa Bloom kidnapped me from my mother when I was 7 years old, and killed her in front of me, I’ve been treated like a material she absolutely despised but wanted to make a weapon with. All because I’m the bastard daughter of the Crowned Prince Russell Frederick Bloom, the “holy-golden-dragon” with my mom, a black dragon extremely powerful who worked directly with the Dragon Queen and King as the Royal blacksmith and stylist. Which baffles me even more is that mother and Russell were mates, but as dear grandma there didn’t want a black dragon to mate with her precious golden son, she terrorized my mom when she learned of their affair and made sure her son married a female golden dragon of high birth right away. That’s where Philippa Pepper Wreathers-Bloom comes into the picture. She got engaged to my birth father before mother could even have me, and as soon as she had me on the territory now known as New Zealand, she ran away to her family’s original territory on the Himalaya Mountain Range. Which is where she made her lair and raised me for 7 years, in physical age. That is, until dear grandma came and ended our short-lived happiness. Aye, key detail. Mom and dad were both dragons, of different founding clans but both dragons, nevertheless, I came out weird and I’m not a dragon at all, I’m something else entirely, though still in the reptile family. Which is another reason why Meredith tortured the shite out of me. If there was something she despises more than having a bastard in her perfect Royal bloodline, is having a bastard who’s an error in the system (not my choice of words, hers), something that’s only been heard in legends of the long gone old world. What are you then, Hel? I’m a serpent. But not just a serpent, I’m a gigantic black serpent with emerald scales here and there (which Meredith is to blame for), long and wide bat-like wings, with sapphire eyes, and silver sharp fangs full of a very lethal poison. ||| English is not my first language.

Why is she being cruel to me?

"Wilhelmina, my sweet child, you can fool everyone. From your mate, to the Wolpertinger, to the friends you refuse to acknowledge for fear of hurting them, to the one who caused all of your suffering. Nevertheless, you cannot fool yourself. You cannot lie to yourself and pretend that your soul is intact when it isn't. It's shattered and bended, but shattered still. And you would notice, if you hadn't numbed and blinded yourself."

"You are wrong!" I cried. "Don't say that!"

"Numb from the pain that you constantly feel. Blind not to see anything great in you. Refusing to see your beauty, only focusing on your scars. You fake that you love some part of yourself , you fake that you're okay, that the scars are old, that you don't feel the pain all over again, every second you close your eyelids. That you aren't instantly reminding yourself of your wounds that hurt as if they were all new."

"You have no idea what you're taking about, Belladonna!"

"You keep telling yourself that you're faking until you make it, but you are only faking it, you don't want to make it. You feel guilty for loving Oliver-Sean Montgomery Strauss-Khan, because you don't think you deserve such a privilege. You keep trying desperately to go after a way to break an unbreakable bond, not simply because you are scared of him being hurt, but because you think he deserves better than a broken girl like you."

"No." I yelled, heart thundering. "That's not true."

"But what you don't understand, is that he feels the same way. He feels like he's unworthy of you, but at least he wants to try. By doing what you are trying to do, you will end up destroying you both, before you can even do anything to your mating bond. You will make it all worse, it won't help anyone, especially not you, even less the vampire you're mated to. It'll turn the hope you've had so far into dust!"

"Shut up. Shut up," I screamed, covering my ears. "Shut up!"

"You cannot stay in denial forever, Wilhelmina! Honesty if the way and it is my way. I will not tell you what you want to hear, because that will not take you anywhere, you are being a hypocrite, child! I'm trying to help you, to make you see. So, come here and let me do it. Come. Here!"

"No!" I screamed again, but my body moved on it's own, as if being controlled and pulled to her. "Stay away from me," I cried. "No. No. Stay away, Belladonna. Stay away. Please, get away. No."

"Sorry, Wilhelmina, but you are in denial and I need to do this. You have to see. You have to feel it. You have to know. You have to open your eyes, or at least begin to. It'll only awake after you wear the Crown, but you need to be prepared!"

"Stay away!" I screamed, making the entire castle shake around me, causing a heavy earthquake all around us, but it was too late, Belladonna's arms reaches for me and the mirror swallowed me up by force.

✵ 𖣔 ✵

There are fourteen silver-haired people around me. Seven couples. Midnight blue eyes, ruby red eyes, emerald green eyes, golden eyes, light purple eyes, baby crystalline blue eyes, and silver eyes. The only uneven pair is the female with ruby red eyes, who's standing with the third emerald green eyed person in the room, a male taller than her.

They are all seated together in seven points of the room, with the highest being where the midnight blue-eyed couple, who looks an awful lot like me… as I saw in the mirror, and on their heads are two different crowns.

The male, who I suspect to be King Umbra, my grandfather, has an adorned obsidian pointed crown containing an emerald at the biggest and centered point, and other six gems at the sides, three in each; ruby, peridot, citrine, amethyst, sapphire, and diamond, laying on top of his curly silver hair. While the female, who also look a bit like me, and must be grandma, Queen Wilhelmina Cara Miralanthor, has an adorned thin crown made entirely out of obsidian, laying on top of her wavy silver hair.

On his finger, there's a ring identical to the one in my hand, with the exception of the emerald dots in mine, and in her… a delicate version of the ring I gave Oliver, though having emerald where his had ruby.

All of them united in one fancy room made of emerald.

How did Belladonna sent me here?

"Are you sure about this, Umbra?" The ruby-eyed female asked in a imposing but enchanting voice. So, I was right, it's him.

"Yes, Melina!" He exclaimed in a soft but terrific and deep voice, that made me turn instantly to him, feeling a call into my very soul.

He looks beautiful, immaculate, kind, with his fluffy curly silver hair, intense dark blue eyes in serpentine slits, the snow white skin, dimples marked in both cheeks, high cheekbones and sharp jawline, all too similar to the girl in the mirror. But at same time, imposing, powerful, intimidating, scary. In fact, he might be the scariest person I've ever seen.

And by what he's saying, it means the red-eyed gorgeous female is grandmother's best friend, Grand Duchess of the Reds, the one who fed her blood to the roses with grandma. If that's true, it also means I'm in the presence of all the leaders of the seven kinds of winged-serpents. My dear over powerful ancestral included.

"The Crone assure us that she will take care of Belladonna, and then when the chosen awakens, she'll guide her to us even if in spirit, to make sure she understands the importance of what will happen," grandmother exclaimed, just as imposing as her husband, but somehow kinder, softer, but still scary.

Melina nodded, "Then shall we warn him"

"Her!" Grandfather corrected. "The Crone said it'll be a female."

That seemed to make Melina more at ease, "Even better."

"When shall we start?" The silver eyed male asked, calmer.

My grandfather looked straight into my eyes, "We shall begin now, Antoine. Belladonna, we'll speak now."

"Yes, Your Majesty!" The words left my mouth out of nowhere. They can't see me. They see me as her. "When the time comes, I will show this to her, so, you can speak to me as if you were to her!"

This feels too much.

"Hello, child, if you are listening to this now, it means the war went wrong and we did not win," grandfather exclaimed, impassive. "We shall make you remember us, thus, we'll be introducing ourselves to you, child. My name is Umbra Rune Miralanthor, and I am your grandfather, having many greats in the middle. I am a black winged-serpent, like you. Supreme King of the Winged Serpents of the Emerald Sky City, our sanctuary."

His wife licked her lips, "I am your many-greats grandmother, dear, Queen Wilhelmina Cara Miralanthor of the blacks. Supreme Queen of the Winged Serpents of Emerald Sky City. Our kin, the blacks, are the ruling kind of our race since the beginning of times, and thus, it'll lie on your shoulders to wear the Crown of Chaos," she pointed at grandfather's head.

He nodded softly, "The Crown concedes us the ability to connect ourselves entirely with the Gargoyle Indestructible Army, a majestic kind born from both the three Goddesses like us and the very mating bond, that has the mission of serving our kin with loyalty and strength to a better future of the world. But it also grants you access to many other powerful places and things, that will require responsibility when wearing it."

"Sky-Mine Dwarven City of Alexandrine, Elemental Sanctuary of the Aubin Sky-Temple, Green Witches' Sky-Forest of Gibbous Moon, Holy Sky-City of the Nine-Tailed Foxes of Dusk, Sky-City of the Phoenixes of Andromeda, Cloud Sky-City of the Pegasus of Faye, and to the Sky-Domed Tree of Life," grandma explained. "Those can only be accessed by the Crown, and the Crown can only be used by a black winged serpent and no other."

"Without the Crown, just by being a black winged serpent, you can access Emerald Sky City, and Sky-Mounts Fawn, Elwen, Sonnet, Raya, Miel, and Alma. The homes of the other kinds of our race!" He added. "We may be the rulers of our race, my child, but we would never be able to do this alone, without our council. The six Grand Duchesses and Dukes of Noble line, with the strongest winged serpents of each kind," then pointed to the six couples. "You can speak of yourselves now, my friends."
