Chapter 9: Wendy

After Damien left Roxanne, She stood outside the restaurant, pondering on  what she would be her next line of action.

Her grandparents would soon be aware of her presence in the country. In her past life, she didn't have much relationship with them except for the few time she spoke with them on the phone, yet they had quickly sought out the Smith mansion with the intention of taking her away. However, she refused to leave with them. So, they were left with no choice but to accept her decision and let her be.

This time around Roxanne wanted to be the one to reach out to them. She was planning to make amends for the mistakes she had made in her previous life but she had absolutely no clue how to find them.

"Ha, that's right!" Roxanne exclaimed as a thought suddenly popped into her head after racking her brain for some minutes.

"Wendy should be easily accessible now. She can help me." Roxanne fished out her cell phone from her jacket pocket. She excitedly dialed Wendy's number.

Wendy used to be her best friend in her previous life but they grew apart as time passed. However, during this time around both her and Wendy were still friends. Since she stayed within the country, it was possible that she knew where to find the Walters residence.

Meanwhile, at another luxurious mansion located in the heart of the city.  Wendy sat on a bench under an umbrella by the poolside. She was wearing a bikini, a sunglass and a hat that protected her face from the sun.

She occasionally stared at her cell phone as though she was expecting a call.

"I wonder if Roxanne is okay. She hasn't contacted me in the past three days." Wendy mumbled as she worriedly looked at her cell phone.

She had tried calling Roxanne multiple times, but her calls were unanswered which made her very concerned. She sighed and took a deep breath, trying to remain calm as she reminded herself that Roxanne was likely just busy and would call when she had the chance. "I just hope nothing has happened to her," Wendy thought.

Suddenly, her phone vibrated, bringing her back to reality. Wendy eagerly reached out for her cell phone that was placed on a table beside her hoping it was Roxanne. As if her prayer was heard by an angel, her dull mood was lifted as she saw Roxanne's name on the caller ID.

Wendy quickly tapped the green button. "So you finally decided to call me after ditching me. What happened to you when I called you? Why didn't you answer? Do you know how much pain I had to go through when I was ditched by you?" Wendy fired off with a series of questions without taking a breath.

However, Roxanne gave no response to any of her questions. "Roxanne why aren't you answering me?" Wendy's anxiety increased as she waited for an explanation.

Roxanne, however, was speechless because Wendy continued to relentlessly ask her questions without giving her a chance to answer them.

Moreover, Roxanne didn't know how to react to listening to her friend's voice for so many years. She could sense the genuine hint of concern in Wendy's voice as she released a sudden barrage of questions at her.

Although, Roxanne was caught off guard by Wendy's questions, she was still overwhelmed with the joy of reuniting with her best friend.

"Roxy, are you listening to me? Wendy called out on the phone.

"First of all, you are screaming so loud and I can feel my eardrums are about to explode. Additionally, I think it would be best if you could ask your questions one at a time, so that I can give you the answers and explanations you need," Roxanne said.

Wendy's eyes twinkled with delight as she broke into a fit of giggles after she realized how many questions she had asked Roxanne in less that thirty seconds.

Roxanne could also barely hold her laughter when she broke into a fit of giggle too. The two friends continued laughing and stopped when their cheeks were beginning hurt from too much of laughter.

"But honestly speaking, that wasn't funny at all," Wendy said firmly, her voice wavering slightly which made Roxanne feel slightly guilty.

"Do you know how worried I was about you when you didn't contact me?" Wendy asked.

"It's all my fault, I am sorry. I should have called you when I arrived here but I had my reasons." Roxanne apologized without much argument because she knew it was her fault.

"Please, don't give me such silly excuses. Wait!...did you just say you arrive?" Wendy asked.

"Yeah, I am in the country." Roxanne broke the news to Wendy.

"What?" Wendy screamed in shock. "Why didn't you tell me? Where are you? I am on my way to your home right this instant. I need to see you so that I can give you a proper scolding" Wendy said but as she was about to dash into the mansion she was interrupted.

Roxanne abruptly replied. "I'm not at the Smith's mansion."

"But if you are not at the Smith residence, where are you right now? Were you kicked out of the house?" Wendy asked as she sat down back on the pool bench.

"Nah, I wasn't kicked out but I left the mansion instead."

"I definitely did not see that coming but why did you decide to do that anyway?" Wendy curiously inquired.

"It's a lot to talk about on the phone, just hurry up and come and meet me now." Roxanne replied.

"Alright, give me the details to your exact location and I'll be there in no time. But you're spilling it all out as soon as we meet."

"I am standing in front of a restaurant right now." Roxanne replied.

"Fine then, text me the address immediately." Wendy urged before she hung up.

After texting Wendy the address, Roxanne decided to head back to the restaurant. She chose a table that allowed her to have a view of the outside world.

Less than an hour later, a black car parked outside in front of the restaurant an hour later. Wendy alighted from the backseat of the car.

She was wearing a yellow gown with a flurry pattern. Her long, wavy hair cascaded down her back in curls.

She walked confidently towards the entrance of the restaurant. When she entered the building, she glanced around the restaurant looking for Roxanne who waved at her when she saw Wendy enter the restaurant.

Wendy walked to Roxanne's table with her full lips spread into a beautiful smile. Compared to Roxanne, her face was more mature, but she was still beautiful despite the differences.

The two best friends hugged each other tightly. They hadn't seen each other in a long time, so they hugged for awhile before they settled down to sit.

"I have missed you so much, Roxy." Wendy said as she squeezed Roxanne's hand.

"I miss you too, Wendy." Roxanne said as she patted Wendy's hand that was squeezing her. She could sense that Wendy really missed her.

"Shut it, if you truly did miss me then you shouldn't have ghosted me like that for the past three days and why didn't you call me when you got back? How could you just ditch me like that? I was so concerned about you?" Wendy said as she looked at Roxanne with a worried expression.

Roxanne apologized with a smile on her face, "I'm sorry for not calling you. I had my reasons."

"Don't give me excuses. The only reason why I can forgive you is if you have a valid reason for your actions. So you can start talking?" Wendy placed her elbows on the table using them as a pillar to carry her chin to gain leverage as she looked at Roxanne.

"...."

Roxanne was scared of how Wendy would react if she told her the truth. She knew that Wendy would be unable to believe that she had transmigrated. Maybe her best friend would start calling her crazy and start avoiding her.

Roxanne sighed again and reluctantly told her, "I'm sorry, but I have been dealing with some personal issues... I can't explain it, but I promise I will explain it to you soon."

"Okay I understand. Just don't keep me waiting for long." Wendy said with a smile on her face. Since it was something Roxanne didn't want to talk about, she wouldn't pry too much into the matter but she appreciated Roxanne's honesty.

"So out with it?" Wendy asked.

"Huh! What is that?" Roxanne looked at Wendy with a confused look.

"Don't play dumb with me Roxanne Smith. Are you gonna tell me what you are doing here and how you got here? Why aren't you at the Smith mansion?" Wendy asked.

"I almost had an accident today, but I am fine," Roxanne said casually.

"What?! You almost had an accident...mph!"

Roxanne covered Wendy's mouth before she could finish her words.

"Take it easy Wendy. You are too loud and you are disturbing the others here." Roxanne gestured at the other customer who had turned their attention to them.

"Promise me not to shout if I take my hands off your mouth?"  Roxanne asked because she knew Wendy was always so dramatic.

"There's no reason for me to care about other people. You just told me you almost had an accident and made it sound like you were talking about the weather and you expected me not to be dramatic about it? There must be something wrong with you, Roxanne." Wendy said after Roxanne released her mouth.

"I am fine, really." Roxanne assured Wendy.

"In the past few days, you have been acting strange to the point where I almost don't recognize you. Besides me, what are the reasons for leaving your parent's mansion?" Wendy asked. She was still not over the fact that Roxanne almost got hit by a car.

After an hour, Roxanne was done with her explanation to Wendy. Well she didn't say the part where she transmigrated since no one was going to believe her.

"So right now you need to get to Walters mansion right?" Wendy asked after hearing what Roxanne said

"Yeah."

"So why do you look like that?" Wendy asked again as she watched Roxanne's expression when she mentioned the Walters family.

"It's just I don't know if they would believe and accept that I am their grandchild. I am just worried." Rozanne said as she looked at Wendy.

"It's ridiculous to talk about someone who won't accept you. When you have never met them, you shouldn't judge them. For God's sake, you are their granddaughter, do you think that they wouldn't actually recognize you?"

"Now, stop worrying and let's get moving or we will be late." Wendy said and they both got up from their seats.

The driver who drove Wendy's to the restaurant opened the back seat door when he saw his young miss and her friend walking out of the restaurant.

"Young Miss where to? The driver asked as he entered the car.

"To the Walters family mansion." Wendy replied and the driver nodded his head and drove off.
