Head In The Stars

"I'm actually an alien," says the little girl. I have no idea how to take this, Lachlan thinks. His training as a security guard didn't cover it, nor did it cover how to deal with running into a hot guy from a past he's trying to hide from, or avoid alien conspiracies when they come knocking. Wait, what? That last one must be wrong, aliens aren't real. ...Right?

Ch. 28 - An Unexpected Gift

"Do you have any sugar? This coffee's awful."

I shook my head, saying nothing.

Moira raised an eyebrow. "Hmph, guess it'll have to do," she said, taking another sip.

I didn't see her in the flesh the night she kidnapped Millie, but I'd seen footage of her and seen her profile picture, though neither of these prepared me for what it was like to meet the woman in person.

She was a… force. I couldn't think of how else to describe her. There was a dynamism to her existence that made you stop and look and listen. It wasn't her beauty, though she was beautiful, but something else.

Something… alien.

"Is the gun real?" I asked, nodding at the gun she held loosely in other hand as she sipped her coffee.

We were both sitting at the dining table, both with a cup of coffee in front of us.

She smiled and rotated her wrist so that the gun hung from a finger. "Want to find out?" she asked.

"I think I'll pass," I said.
