the D- day

ouch, that's hurtful, Gerald said as he grabbed his chest in faux agony. I can't believe this.

well believe it, honey, I told him. the essay was coming along great.

I glanced at the clock, it was already 9pm. wow it's already quite late, time runs so fast.

I know right, we have to get going so it won't be too late.

exactly, Angela added. it's quite late, do you guys live together?

no, Angela and I are neighbors, we have practically grown up together. she lives with her elder sister and her husband as her parents are both gone.

while I stay with my brother and my mum. my mum and dad are divorced so he stays in Paris and comes to visit whenever he seems fit.

I followed them outside and watched as they got into the car. bye guys, be safe. love you. they drove off and I kept waving till they were out of sight.

I went inside and started clearing the table. few minutes later, Jessica was back.

it was great, we went to a party. Thai was there.

ya sick, she laughed as she playfully threw her pillow at me. I'm going straight to bed, I'm so tired.

see you tomorrow, I told her. after clearing up, I went back to my room and changed into my pyjamas. I was too tired to take a bath.

oh no!! my clothes in the dryer. I ran upstairs and saw that someone had already taken them out and folded them.

I went back upstairs to sleep. I dreamt about me playing the piano in front of a large audience.

streaks of sunlight from the gaps in the blinds stirred me awake.

I got up immediately and went to take my bath

today was football tryouts and I was so excited. I got dressed and styled my hair.

wow, someone looks a little chirpy this morning, Grandma commented.

well today is football tryouts so I'm very excited. I'm finally going to join the team. it's going to be fantastic.

mum came down few minutes later. Good morning mum, I greeted her. you are up early.

Good morning honey, yes I wanted to eat breakfast with you guys this morning and maybe Jess can drop me off on the way to school.

ohh okay, I said. breakfast was pancakes and eggs with apple juice.

the sound of footsteps announced the arrival of Mike and Jessica.

Good morning mum, they chorused as soon as they saw her.

morning kiddos, I thought I would join you guys for breakfast and maybe even hitch a ride.

okay, Jessica answered obviously surprised that mum didn't mention the incident the previous day.

I'm really sorry for how I reacted that day mum, Jessica said.

I'm sorry too, I shouldn't have lost my temper that way.

after breakfast we all got into the car and Jessica zoomed off. she dropped mom first before driving off to school.

I could hardly sit still in class. the classes were a breeze, I wasn't even paying attention. soon it was time for lunch.

wow you look different today, Gerald commented.

well today is football tryouts.

ohhh, that is that why you look so nice, he laughed, you are the most weird person I have ever met in my life.

whatever, I laughed. what of Alexa? she isn't in school today.

yeah, she had a doctor's appointment.

soon school was over and it was time for football tryouts.

I went to tell Jessica and Mike to go home that Gerald will drive me home.

when we got to the field, they were only few players. Gerald explained that we were a few minutes early to do some practice. I changed into my sports wear and we started running round the track. we did some laps and some warmup exercises.

the coach came and we started the tryout. it was in 3 phases. first phase was a 100m dash to test your speed. then we had a shotput competition to test your arm strength and power. the last was a game of football. you had to score at least 4 goals.

the number of students that came for the tryouts were 40 and only 10 were taken to be on the team and guess what I was one of them.

congratulations to everyone who participated. you are all winners even if you didn't make the team, coach said.

now we will have some words of exhortation from the team captain.
