Chapter 5: The Monologue, part 4

"I understand if you still do not completely trust me. You may be wondering whether my employer and I have ulterior motives. Perhaps you think that I construed the evidence back there to corroborate a false story. If you cannot trust us, at least know that we have the capability to determine what needs to be done in order to free countless civilizations. Whether you choose to side with us or not is, from your perspective, your own risk to gamble.

"Now, it is time for a familiar type of decision" the G-Man said as a portal opened up in the air. "You can choose to go through this portal and land where you need to be at the right time. Know that if you try to get back to the surface, there will be consequences - both foreseen and unforeseen."

Before Gordon stepped into the portal, Wheatley spoke:

"Well, this is goodbye. Because of you I got in here, but I am now better suited to be safe in the world. No more having to stick to riding management rails or being carried around. Although, now I have to get over having a crush on Athena. She wants to stay here and save turrets, while I want, and need, to get out of here. So, unfortunately, we are incompatible. I do know that you did not mean for this to happen to me. So, again, goodbye. Now to find Virgil and get out of this place."

After Gordon had entered the portal, the G-Man said, "Your coming here has now become a complete success. There is no need to keep you in the dark about where I am taking you. I will put you in statis for about half a day as your friends are flying to the Arctic now. Once your friends have reached the Combine Arctic base, I will wake you up and send you there. Good luck, Dr. Freeman. Remember, the fate of Earth no longer rests in your hands alone."
