Meeting A Big Dog

"Like i said, City H is top priority, how will we fight a war without food!?" Immediately, shouts from arguments hit the team's ears.

The room was large, but dozens of researchers and strategists all stood around arguing with each other.

While looking on, Jacob failed to realize that Clara slipped away from them, finding someone in the crowd, and leaving the team by themselves.

"City H is of little priority, if we take the nearby towns of City G we won't need large amounts of stored and shipped food from the farmers!" Another voice replied in bitterness.

At the center were two middle aged men in lavish cloaks, crossing their arms and staring at each other with disdain.

Between them was a large table showing a holographic map of different cities, along with scattered papers.

"Whatever it may be, the farmer city is of little priority since we already have plans to quickly take City G out of the war," The other man responded in a confident tone, flashing a punchable smirk.

"Is that not what you said when the war was still starting? When was that? 8 years ago?" The other strategist retorted, putting his hand up to his chin.

"Whatever it may be, a choice has to be made. And we need both cities to be handled quickly." The other man finished talking, stepping away from the large table.

The other staff checked their tablets and checklists, whispering to one another and discussing what they will do next.

"Whatever choice we decide, it must bring the best outcome for our side." As he finished, the lights came on, and the strategists who were once watching the debate started to walk out, talking to one another while looking at their tablets and lists or books.

In the meantime, Clara had returned with someone in tow.

It did not take long before Jacob realized it was one of the men standing in the center of the room.

"Team, this is Arcane Maxwell. One of the City I council members." As he looked on, Jacob realized the man was the one that wanted to aid City H.

"This war is not going in our favor, even with the intel we gained." The man groaned in frustration. He looked up, noticing Jacob.

"I see that this is the new Glitch that City H spoke of?"

"Indeed, he is under my care and managed to escape when the city was attacked."

"I received your reports and the drone recordings, if we train him more and provide some incentives, perhaps he will become a great asset for us." The man explained.

He looked at Jacob for a bit, and took out a spike looking device. Grabbing Jacob's wrist, he jabbed it in.

"What the-" Jacob pulled away his arm, but the man smiled, satisfied. With a snap of his fingers, he showed his screen. It was purple in color, an odd mutation of the light that caused some systems to have unique colors to give some more beauty to it.

The screen quickly began splitting into smaller boxes of texts, thousands of words began appearing on each of them while Maxwell read all of them.

"Interesting, not much signs of alteration, energy restore still takes a day, energy storage is the same. The only problem is that it won't access the abilities and task tab. Interesting," Maxwell explained. With Clara they both briefly talked on their discoveries with Jacob.

"These people are weird, they remind me of the quiet kids at the back of my class who get mad when I try to say hello." Ella whispered, looking at the two.

After a minute, they finished talking, and Clara looked at Jacob.

"Starting today, you will be given more training and live combat to increase your strength and experience in the field." She explained.

"Wait a second," Jacob spoke in an annoyed tone.

"What do I get from this? Apart from fighting City G." Clara thought for a second, remembering the deal she had with Jacob on the first day they met.

"You asked for wealth, vengeance, and a high position, indeed i did not deliver on those two-"

"I can take care of this." Maxwell interrupted, he took out something from his wallet, credits, and a ton of them.

"Given your standing and position, I see no reason to provide funds to help yourself, through time you may gain more credits from us if you continue to fight and work with us." At that moment, Jacob got his answer.

Unlike City H, he was given better treatment in City I, and even a sleeping quarters. A much better life than in his old home.

'Hitting two birds with one stone, money and fighting. This is really starting to feel like some rpg quest. Just missing the larger bounty of money and exp.' He thought.

Max tossed a small chip to Jacob.

"Attach it to the medical device on your arm, should also connect to the system." After doing so, Jacob snapped his fingers, and to his surprise, he could see a small tab on the upper right of the screen.

'1500 already!? That's at least three weeks worth of work on the farm!' Jacob was stunned, now all that was left is a comfy and high position in a city. Perhaps after this war he can have it, he just needs to prove his worth more to them, and to continue accomplishing his dream, for his family, for himself, and for the City.

"I suppose that is enough talking for me today, for now i suggest you train, we received reports that drone and gun attacks are becoming more and more common, and some about more armored variants. I hope to see more results from you!" Satisfied with what he saw, Maxwell walked away.

"It seems Maxwell is just as interested in your mutation, Jacob. Apart from this, a training chamber has been allocated for us. This time though it is being recorded."
