As they exited the portal, the group found themselves in an empty, white room. But calling it a room wasn't correct. There were no walls, no roof, no floor—just an endless white void stretching in every direction.
As people entered the place, they were worried and felt out of place. Maybe that was what the angel wanted them to experience.
