chapter 19 city of vaes dothrak

In Front of Vaes Dothrakh

After three relentless days of travel, I finally stood before the looming expanse of Vaes Dothrakh, the sacred heart of Dothraki culture. The sun dipped low on the horizon, casting an ominous glow across the vast steppe. As I neared, a lone warrior emerged, galloping toward me atop a sleek black horse, his expression a blend of suspicion and curiosity.

"What is your purpose?" he demanded in a harsh, clipped tone, his hand resting on the hilt of his curved saber.

"I come here to challenge all the khals in the city!" I declared, my voice ringing out over the wind. With a flourish, I gestured to the massive chests behind me. "Inside these chests lies a million gold pieces!" My men moved forward, lifting the lids to reveal glimmering mounds of gold coins that sparkled like stars in the fading light. "Tell all the khals that if they want it all, they must defeat me in armed combat. If they win, they take my life, my soldiers, and my gold. If I win, I claim their lives, their soldiers, their horses, and their women! Now go!" I commanded, watching the messenger ride back towards the city while my men began to set up camp.

I couldn't help but feel a surge of pride at my decision to learn Dothraki. Without that knowledge, I would have been reduced to hiring a slave to translate, losing the chance to assert my challenge in their tongue.

The Khalasar Arrives

About thirty minutes later, the ground trembled beneath the thunderous hooves of a massive khalasar. A cloud of dust rose into the air as they approached. At the forefront rode a towering figure, a man easily seven feet tall, his imposing presence matched only by the ferocity of his bloodriders, who flanked him like shadows.

They halted before me, the leader dismounting with a grace that belied his size.

"I am Khal Jommo," he announced, his voice echoing with authority. "I have come to accept your challenge."

"Then come at me with your bloodriders!" I shouted, adrenaline coursing through my veins, anticipation crackling in the air.

Without hesitation, Khal Jommo and his bloodriders surged forward, weapons drawn. Just as the khal swung his saber, I darted forward, channeling all my strength into a devastating punch aimed directly at his heart. The impact reverberated through my arm as his expression shifted from confidence to disbelief, his ribcage collapsing under the force of my blow his heart exploding in his chest blood coming out of the khals mouth and nose.

The bloodriders faltered, stunned by the sudden turn of events. One lunged at me, swinging his sword overhead. I caught his wrist, twisting and spinning on my heel to hurl him into the other two bloodriders, sending them sprawling into the dust.

With a powerful leap, I soared into the air, crashing down onto the fallen bodies. I stomped mercilessly, the heat of their blood spraying against my skin. When it was over, I seized their heads, ripping them from their necks with primal fury. I turned to Khal Jommo, his eyes wide with shock, and followed suit, raising his severed head high as a trophy.

The remaining warriors stared in disbelief, their leader's severed head held aloft as a symbol of my dominance. I stepped forward, voice booming, "You are now warriors of the Bloody Giant! Your new khal is me, Caesar the Giant!"

The khalasar erupted into a frenzy of cheers, their loyalty shifting in an instant. They were a people who revered strength and bloodshed, and my brutal display had ignited their fervor. I couldn't help but ponder why no one had attempted this before—perhaps they lacked the gold, the strength, or the sheer audacity to challenge a khal so openly.

"Who among you knows the most about our enemies and my new khalasar?" I bellowed, scanning the crowd.

A man rode forward, dismounting with a confidence that belied his average stature. Scars marred his skin, telling tales of countless battles fought.

"My name is Tuko, my Khal," he said, bowing slightly.

"How many warriors are in my khalasar?" I asked, eager for information.

"There are 5,000 horse riders and 2,000 women, children, and elderly."

"Good. Are there other khals in the city?"

"Yes, my Khal. Many more."

"Then why didn't they come?" I pressed, curiosity piqued.

Tuko hesitated, glancing back at the gathered warriors. "Khal Jommo ordered the messenger to remain silent. The rider who came to you was from our khalasar. Upon hearing of your arrival, Jommo sought to claim your treasures and men as slaves."

A wicked smile spread across my face as I contemplated my next move. "Go tell all the khals that I will remain here. If they want what I possess, including my new warriors, they must meet me here every day for battle, bringing their men and treasures. I will face the khals and their bloodriders myself! Whoever wins takes everything! And send men to collect my new spoils from killing khal jommo."

"As you wish, my Khal," Tuko replied, urgency in his voice as he mounted his horse.

"Now, return to your tasks! Once I've dealt with the khals, we will embark on a great war—one that will shake the world and bring more riches and women than you have ever dreamed!" I roared to the skies, my voice echoing across the plains.

The men erupted into cheers, chanting, "Bloody Giant! Bloody Giant!" The fervor in their voices ignited a fire within me, fueling my resolve. As I turned to clean my trophies, I felt the weight of my new role settle upon me. The world was about to change, and I would lead the charge.
