Gene System

Blake is a young man who has had to suffer through devastation over and over again losing more than just an arm. With no power of his own he could barely stand a chance against others or even be deemed useful by the military. All he can do is accept his sister's help bitterly knowing he can't return it to the same effect. After a series of events a meeting with near death shocks him to his very core changing his life forever. Awakening a hidden element buried deep within his genetic code. The Gene System, an advanced complex genetic technology used to expand and improve the overall potential and direction of evolution for the user's genetic code naturally mapping out and directing where the user should go with the growth they obtain. Not much else is known, only that few on every planet are given one through unknown means. The current state of the world is racked with unbridled chaos as the military fruitless attempts to stop the atrocities committed by the organisation known as the Gene hunters. Seeking to steal and splice any genetic data they can get their hands on by whatever psychotic means whether it be dissection, slow harvesting or cloning ethics are not a concern. Hundreds of thousands have been affected by the gene hunters including Blake's family. Some are never seen again, just used as cows for genetic harvesting over and over again until they dried up never to see their families again. Changes have begun to sprout in the background of earth leading to more and more mysterious events occurring, genetic powers becoming stronger, animals becoming mutated and evolving faster than normal generational lines. All the while in the background an unknown force beyond human comprehension lurks just beyond the veil waiting patiently for the time to run out and indulge in his planet level feast devouring all life in sight. Blake will give his all to overcome these brutal circumstances by whatever means. No matter the pain, suffering or loss he will continue to go forward no matter the cost. Failure isn't a devastation but a stepping stone in his larger goal. In his pursuit to build his strength he wont forget where he came from guarding the weak as someone who grew from that. Seeing the lack of care or acknowledgement to the majority viewed as weak in the military disdain makes him step up as the leader needed to change the structure of this world for the better. In the weak there is strength which Blake knows all too well. His reason to go forward is to become the man he wants to be. The only thing that truly terrifies is the idea of letting it all go, giving up and betraying himself and his potential.

*Patter*

Rain continues to pour down his hood. Pulling out his card, a tap to the scanner on his flat and the door starts to slide open from left to right. An odd silence fills the flat.

"Raven"?

"I'm back, is everything all good"? Blake says, pulling back his hood and drying off.

"Yeah….. I guess" Raven says through a mouthful of ice cream.

"What happened? His tone leaking out worry as he hangs up his jacket.

"I had my first spar with Pyre" Raven manages to say.

"I think It went well".

"Was just terrified afterward". She says through wet eyes.

"Why"? Blakes gaze becomes sharper as he scrutinizes his sister.

"I couldn't move Blake. I was locked in my own body". Ravens tears begin to fall over the memory of the sensation.

"It wasn't just the fingers this time" Shock permeates into his voice.

"No I couldn't even speak" Her voice becomes shaky and unstable.

"I mean I used more of my power. I guess that's good. She lets out an odd laugh as hysteria slowly seeps in.

"You did a good job sis, I'm proud of you". Bringing his sister into his embrace now. His hand brushes through her black hair. Keeping its order together.

"It must have been terrifying"

"IT WAS, IT WAS SO TERRIFYING" Her tears break through her façade.

"I THOUGHT I WOULD BE STUCK LIKE THAT"! Raven starts to sob into Blakes shirt, her fingers gripping into the fabric as hard as they can.

"That will never happen". Blake says.

"Remember it will always wear off, you just need to give yourself time" Blake says comforting her as much as possible.

"Hopefully this news might cheer you up" Blake says.

"I'm going to the finals". His shy smile breaks apart all of her anxiety.

"YOU ARE WHY THE HELL DIDN'T YOU SAY THAT SOONER"! Raven says, sending her fist into her shoulder.

"I had a feeling you would pass this one two" Raven says a chirper tone emerging, brushing away her tears.

"You've really given this your all. You deserve this''. Raven says, hugging him. Her anxiety starting to fall apart.

"I'm coming to watch you pass those finals" She gives him an adamant look with her hands on her hips.

"Are you sure"? His gut starts to swish in response, an odd feeling bubbling fourth.

"Yes of course I am, this is your moment I want to celebrate it with you". She says flicking Blake in the head.

"Alright then I'll be happy to have your support sis" Dispelling the odd feeling in his gut while rubbing his forehead.

Morning

"Blake, get your ass out of bed"! Ravens shout breaks through his blissful sleep.

"Shit". Blake says as his reality crashes into him

"Am I late"? He says already looking for socks.

"Don't worry I had a feeling this would happen, I've already sorted a hover-cab it'll be here in 5 minutes". Raven says, sighing.

Looking at his attire, his clothes from the previous day cling to him with dry sweat. "This will do" He says, jumping on one of his feet shoving the other into his boot. Almost falling down the stairs he lands somewhat gracefully.

Making their way outside now a light blue hover-car is humming away waiting for them. A trail of smoke leaves the window. The doors slide open welcoming the siblings inside.

"Looks like you're in a rush kid" The driver says seeing his messy attire.

"You lot headed to the finals". The drivers intuition rings true.

"Yes, well I'm participating". Blake says pointing at himself.

A cigarette is passed to him. "Don't waste your own right now. You need to calm yourself before this".

"Exhale the smoke out the window. We're not boxing your sister in our nicotine". The man says opening Blakes window. Setting off taking the normal air traffic routes of Boreal. Just at a much quicker pace then most.

"Have I met you before?" Blake says, smoking the free cigarette.

"Probably not". His silver hair hides his expression as he chuffs at his own cigarette

After around 15 minutes of travel. The view of a massive stadium comes into view. A massive cube sitting in the middle of it all. Rows upon rows of seats surrounding it. While large holo-screens are projected throughout the stadium.

"Its about to get real kid" The driver says as the ember of his cigarette grows brighter and brighter as he draws a thick plume of smoke.

"They went for a stadium this time. Not the tower"? Blake says, sticking his head out of the window of the cab wind blasting him in the face as the approach.

"Of course they did, they need to attract as many people as possible. They have to make back what they spent for these retakes after all". The driver says scoffing at the idea of it all.

"I think Pyre also mentioned something about sponsors I wasn't paying attention though, you know not being able to move my body and all" Raven chimes in.

"Alright this is where I drop you two off" The man says descending the cab just outside the entrance hovering a few feet off the ground.

"Thank you again for the lift, how much do we owe you". Raven says, digging into her purse.

"On the house, consider it me supporting the next generation" The driver says.

"Good luck". The man says as the cab hovers back into the sky before heading back down the air route.

"Take that as motivation to win Blake, looks like lady luck is shining on you today". Raven says with a bright smile.

"Time to head in". Raven says ushering her brother through the gates of the stadium

"Hey it's good to see you two again" Orange frizz instantly enters their view.

"I knew you could pass Blake"

"Just the finals left" A blur of speech enters the ears of the siblings.

"Break an arm or wait maybe don't" Her tone deaf humor getting a chuckle out of Blake.

"I'll try not to Kiara". Blake says in a warm tone.

"The seats are this way Raven, its about to start so we need to get seated". Kiara says with a wide smile, grabbing Raven's hand in the process they're gone in a flash.

"We'll be cheering you on Blake the two say in unison" As they disappear in a flash of orange and black.

An examiner walks over to Blake "Are you participating if not the spectating area is that way". She says pointing to the area condescendingly.

"No I'm a participant" Blakes stern tone cuts through her bullshit.

"I'll be passing this" His resolve is coming out in full stride now.

"Sure whatever you say kid follow me then" The examiner giggles away to herself.
