Chapter 46: Preparing for War!
The sun barely pierced through the thick clouds hanging ominously over Washington D.C. as George and his convoy of vehicles rolled through the last stretch of desolate highway. The once-bustling capital was now a haunting shell of its former self, with crumbling buildings, overturned cars, and the distant echo of heavy machinery preparing for war.
The convoy came to a halt just outside the massive 30-foot-high stone wall that had been erected by the military. George, flanked by Lucy, Raven, and Jackie, stepped out of the lead vehicle, scanning the scene ahead. Soldiers, hardened by months of apocalyptic chaos, were everywhere, reinforcing the wall, setting up sniper nests in the towers spaced along the top, and double-checking the enormous artillery guns pointed north.
"Well...this is it," George muttered under his breath, feeling the weight of the upcoming battle settle heavily on his shoulders.
