Chapter 23: Barristan's Fear

Barristan did not know what was on the prince's mind and had a weird expression on his face after hearing the prince's question. He merely knew about Edward's character, but he knew one thing. Edward was a dangerous man, and if you were on the opposing team, you should prepare your head as you were going to lose it.

"All I could say is that he is a cunning man, the one who won't enter a war unless he was sure he was going to win, your Highness." Said Barristan with wary in his voice. He had experienced How frightening Edward and his men were, personally. He had seen them fight and knew that multiple of Edward's men were already on par with him, let alone Edward himself, who cut off a hand of the faceless man.

"He was also somewhat arrogant, but he supported this arrogance with his talent. Though, I think he would be cautious after the assassination attempt." Said Barristan, completing his description.

Rhaegar was more interested in Edward after hearing those words. He was adamant about befriending the man more. Such a talent would help him a lot when he was the king of the seven kingdoms.

If Edward knew about Rhaegar's thoughts, he might really die from laughing. As if Rhaegar would live to tell the tale in a few years. Edward had not made his mind about an important matter yet. It was about if he would kill Rhaegar personally in the rebellion or let Robert kill him. Edward wanted to make use of Rhaegar to achieve some of his goals.

"What about his men?" Asked the prince. He was also interested in Edward's men. No one would say he was not interested. To have a thousand-unit and more than a hundred were already knights. This unit was the reason for jealousy from all the great lords.

"I can not really describe those men, your grace. From the fifty-men Edward brought with him, Three were already on par with the Kingsguards. I am not sure who will stand victorious if the Kingsguards and Edward's men have a duel. The rest did not fall behind by much. I don't know about the rest of his unit." Said Barristan with some horror in his voice. Edward's men were one of the reasons he feared him so much. Those men were nothing in the past, and no one had heard their name before. But after joining Edward, they stood tall among all the knights of Westeros. If he could train such a force in such few years, that meant that Edward could build an army strong enough to take all of Westeros.

"That is great. If we use such a talent, we could improve all Westeros." Said Rhaegar as if he had found some hope for this land.

Barristan's expression changed at once. He did not want to bring such a fearsome character to King's Landing. He sensed the many ambitions that Edward had. He feared that Edward might kill The Targaryen and take the throne for himself.

Although Edward indeed had the ambition to dominate the seven kingdoms and be the king in the end. He would never take the throne till Arya kill the calamity named The Night King. Of course, he was going to participate in all the events in the future.

"My prince, I think you should be careful around The Young Lord Baratheon. He is cunning, and unless you are of use to him, You would be in danger." Said Barristan, trying to warn his prince. Although he admired and feared Edward's talent, he wished Edward would stay away from the prince.

"Do not worry, Ser Barristan. You are going with me after all, and I trust you." Said Rhaegar, trying to reassure the loyal knight.

'As if I could protect myself.' Thought, Barristan with black lines all over his face.

But seeing the look the prince was giving him, he could only nod his head. He always admired Rhaegar and knew that he had a great talent and would be a great king someday.

After agreeing to meet the next day at noon to go to Edward's house, Barristan excused himself and took his leave.

After a few hours, In a house located on the street of sisters, You could see a young man having a conversation with a middle-aged woman. The young man was Edward, and the woman was his mother, Cassana. The house was well-decorated and did not cost Edward much. He had used underhanded methods to blackmail the real owner of this land. The man had done a lot of crimes as he was a black market dealer. There was a reason why Edward decided to buy the house, which was the famous House of Kisses that would be at the end of the street in the future. Edward did not know if he would have the chance to visit this famous brothel in the future.

By that time, he would be married. The situation would depend on who would be his wife. Maybe he would marry a daring wife that would ask him to visit the place with him. Would not that be wonderful? He should befriend Oberyn Martell.

Cassana was having a long conversation with her son. She wanted him to accompany her around the streets of King's Landing. And he wanted to inspect the city.

Not being able to win against the strong woman in front of him, Edward resigned to his fate and gave up. He would inspect the city's streets in the way, and he would have to send his men to do the job.

"Mother, why did not you do this with your servants? why it has to be me." Complained Edward along the way.

"Shut it. You are not going to use me all the way. I had to use you too. Did you think I would not notice you going on the previous cities for a purpose?" Asked Cassana with a knowing look. She was blackmailing her son right now.

Edward gave his mother a horrified look. The mother's intuition was really frightening.

"I did not know what are you talking about." Said Edward, trying to feign ignorance.

"I said shut it. You are accompanying me the whole day. That is your punishment for your using your mother." Said Cassana with a threatening look. It was as if she was saying. 'Dare you not to do what I say, and your life would be on the line.'

Edward finally shut his mouth, not daring to retort a word. Women were really frightening.
