The dawn of the second trial saw the arena buzz with anticipation. The sun was barely up, yet the energy was palpable. Contestants whispered theories about what was in store, their speculations fueled by the cryptic hints dropped by the event organizers.
The resonant voice of the Infinite City's herald echoed through the arena, signaling the beginning. "Contestants of the Infinite Challenge, welcome to the Trial of Talents! Here, we test not your card monsters, but you – your memory, your speed, your reflexes!"
A series of platforms rose from the ground, each designed differently. Some were laden with intricate patterns, others with sequences of colors and symbols. A few had treadmills, while others sported dangling ropes and pendulums.
"The rules are simple," the herald continued. "Each platform tests a specific skill. Clear them all, and you pass. Fail one, and you're out!"
The trials commenced with a challenge of memory. Participants were shown a rapid sequence of images, then tasked with recreating them. The representatives of the eight great families, with their refined training, breezed through. Lisa, with her piercing gaze, replicated the sequence flawlessly, while Feng Xuan, in his characteristic cold demeanor, mirrored the images without hesitation.
Then came Li Yang. As he approached, the sequence played: a dragon, a moon, a star, and a fish. But when Li Yang attempted to replicate it, he confidently placed... a chicken? The crowd erupted in laughter, even some of the stoic family representatives suppressing smiles. Realizing his mistake, Li Yang scratched his head, grinning sheepishly. "I guess I was just hungry," he quipped, sending the audience into another round of chuckles.
The next trial was speed. Participants had to race on the treadmills, keeping pace with escalating speeds. Feng Xuan, with his graceful agility, seemed to float above the treadmill. Lisa, with her icy determination, kept pace effortlessly. The representatives of the eight families showcased their elite training, each finishing with impressive times.
Li Yang, on the other hand, began with a comedic stumble, pretending to be outpaced by the treadmill. He flailed his arms dramatically, eliciting roars of laughter. Just when it seemed he'd be thrown off, he suddenly surged forward with surprising speed, clearing the trial with seconds to spare.
The reflex test involved dodging pendulums while balancing on a narrow beam. Once again, the elites displayed their prowess. Lisa's graceful maneuvers were reminiscent of a dance, and Feng Xuan's swift reflexes were a sight to behold. Li Yang? He turned it into a slapstick performance, ducking and diving exaggeratedly, even pretending to be hit a couple of times, only to reveal he was just joking. The crowd loved every minute of it.
When the dust settled, many had been eliminated, but the representatives of the eight great families, Lisa, Feng Xuan, and of course, the ever-entertaining Li Yang, had all advanced to the next round.
As the arena emptied, murmurs of admiration for the elites and chuckles at Li Yang's antics filled the air. While the challenge showcased prowess, it was Li Yang's humor that won the day, proving that sometimes, laughter truly is the best medicine.
