A boy eyes quiver ever so slightly. When he open his eyes his brain was suddenly assaulted by a question that should have been obvious to him.
"Who am I?" The boy touched his face as he felt every texture of it, trying to figure out something about himself.
"What am I?" He questioned once more as he stare down at himself only to see himself sitting on what seems to be grey dust, his entire body laying exposed on the cold ground.
He wore no clothes, his pale skin revealed for all to see. Still, that fact did not bother him much since the thought of being naked did not disturb him.
He soon moved his gaze to stare at the sky only to be mesmerised by the sight. The atmosphere was dark, extremely dark. The only thing one could recognize is the blinking lights that seems to call out to the boy.
"What is your names?" The boy titled his head, a smile growing on his face. His childish thoughts made him believe that what was in the sky were actually sentimental beings.
"Stars..." However, the boy seems to not mind his strange thinking. He muttered the name of the blinking lights and nodded his head.
"Well my name is Adin Kosmas." He greeted back causing the smile on his face to freeze.
"My name is Adin Kosmas?" Once again questions form in his head, but before he could further entertain them something sent him propelling in the air for a few seconds before landing back on the grey dusty ground a couple feet away.
The boy held his tummy in immense pain. Pain he couldn't even describe because he couldn't comprehend what pain was to begin with.
"Disgusting being. You should just die!" A hateful voice was heard causing the boy to look up at the sudden intruder.
It was a man in a black suit. His face was hidden behind a fancy hat he wore on his head. However, for some reason the boy could tell the man was looking down on him as if he was some inferior being causing his tummy that was already burning from the pain to feel something else.
"What is this feeling..." The boy thought in utter confusion. His stomach felt as if it was on fire, but this fire was not caused by the pain. No— it was something else entirely. It was as if whatever was in his stomach was angry?
"How could you say that to a mere child? Look at him, he looks to be about 10 years old!" Another voice was heard. The boy turn his head to see a woman holding the man arm while her other hand was on her face, her eyes revealing shock.
"Hmph, he might be 10 but from the looks of it this child is just a masterless boy. Since when did us Moonlanders ever felt sorry for slaves?" The man bellowed as he raise his foot again in a kicking posture. The boy seeing this quickly got up on his feet and ran as quickly as he could. He was afraid of feeling that strange feeling in his stomach again.
"That's right run you disgusting insect and don't ever come back!" As he ran he could hear the man loud voice that caused tears to fall from his eyes.
"What are these feelings?" He wipe his eyes, but the tears still came down like a waterfall.
"What am I going through?!" He screamed on top of his lungs as he continue running, never stopping, never catching a break.
He ran and ran until he finally felt tired.
"I feel so drained....?" His body fell on the grey dust with a large huff. He was completely exhausted, his body aching from running for so long.
He plan to close his eyes for a while. He did not know what closing his eyes would do, but he felt that it would allow him to get rid of these strange feelings.
However, just as his eyes were about to close shut he heard a roar, spooking him.
"What was that?" He questioned as he quickly got up look around wondering if there was some monster lurking around.
Just as he put his guard down he heard the roar again. This time he managed to find what was causing it. He looked down to his feet only to see nothing.
"My belly?" The roar was heard again and he finally managed to figure out what was causing the noise.
"Mommy that boy seems to be hungry should we give him some food?" Someone uttered behind him. Turning around he saw a girl the same height as him looking at him with a curious and pitiful look.
"Ignore that boy." The woman holding the girls hand shook her head with a warm smile before casting a disgusted side gaze at the boy.
"But mommy. If we ignore him won't he die from starvation?" The girl asked as she look back to stare at the boy.
"That is not our problem my child. Do you wish to be punished?" The woman tone of voice turn to a harsh one.
"No mommy..." The little girl shook her head.
"Then keep quiet and be a good girl while were on the streets. The moon isn't a safe place you know? And stop staring at the boy, don't you see that he is naked? What will you tell your father if your pure mind got corrupted by such a disturbing, sinful and unpleasant sight? " Realizing her tone of voice was a bit too harsh the mother replied more gently.
"Okay mommy..." The girl stop staring at the boy, only staring down on the ground as they pass by him.
"Food, starvation, die?" Seeing the two quickly disappear from his sight the boy mumbled to himself.
"I must go on a search for food so that I will not starve and die?" He wondered.
His questions didn't last long as his belly roar again, answering his question. He nodded his head at his stomach and then went on a journey for food.
10 months quickly went by...
During those 10 months the boy seem to manage to learn a few things. He first accepted the fact that his name was Adin Kosmas after conversing with the stars with his twisted mind.
He also learn that the place he was on is the Earth's one and only Moon. From what he heard from eavesdropping on strangers conversations. He learn that Earth was destroyed 3,000 years ago by what is known as the Scorns of the Universe.
He soon became curious by the name, but did not manage to learn anything about them. However, from what he can tell from these strangers expressions was that every time they bring up the name their faces become cover with horror.
He also learn of a term that very much intrigued him: Galaxy Divers.
These are people no matter the race that goes on a long adventure throughout the multiply galaxies to find out the beauty of the universe. These people believe that at the very top of the universe en-tales the beauty of life that could grant them any wish they so desire.
He learn a lot of things just by listening in on others conversations, he also learn from the stars. With his twisted mind he even managed to become friends with them.
However, there was one thing he couldn't accomplish: Finding food.
Adin Kosmas collapse on the ground, his naked body filled with grey dust. He's been walking for 10 whole months straight barefoot to the point that his feet have gone numb.
He couldn't even feel his body as the cold atmosphere on the moon has already turn his entire body numb. At this point only his brain was functioning.
He spent sleepless days and nights trying to find food, but failed. He wanted to ask, no— he wanted to beg for food. However, something deep inside him refuse to let him do such a thing. Pride maybe? He couldn't tell. Afterall, what homeless person that couldn't even obtain food by their own efforts ever retain their pride?
It's a surprise he even managed to last 10 months without food. But now, as his body burry deep into the moons dust, he wanted to die at this moment. But once again the thing deep inside him refuse to let him die. Was it some sort of motivation to continue forward? Perhaps. He felt like there was something he needed to accomplish in the future before departing from this world.
"But what is this thing I need to accomplish?" Soon tears once more fall from his eyes. In these 10 months he came to realize that apart from his name he could not remember anything else about himself.
"I am 10 years old so shouldn't I have a mother. Where is my mommy?!" Remembering the face of the girl who had on nice clothing and an adult figure showering her with love he raised his head and yelled.
"Where is my daddy?!" At this moment he felt abandoned and betrayed as he question about his possible fathers location.
"Where are my parents? My family?!" He shouted with all he had left in himself before collapsing again on the ground.
"..."
The world became silent.
"I can't die yet." After letting everything out he gathered the moons dust in his hands, lifted it and brought it to his face before munching down on them. He didn't stop there, so in order to satisfy his hunger he ate anything he saw in sight. The moons insects, rats, garbage, he even tried biting an aristocrat leg. Leading him to get beaten up and tortured for days by the aristocrat servants.
After they were done he lay on the ground for a very long time. Only staring lifelessly at the sky that was always night. During these 10 months he always believe the stars were lonely just like him making it easy for his twisted mind to make friends with them. Because of this, he always converse with the stars. No matter how insane he look in the eyes of others he continue speaking to them as they were his only friends in this world.
He continue looking and soon, he raised his hands in a pose as if trying to catch them.
Then suddenly his eyes that seem to have lost all meaning shined with resolve.
"We are the same. Forsaken by whoever or whatever created us. You were left to stay in the same position by your creator while I can't even remember the face of whoever made me." He said, his voice losing the innocence of a 10 year old as a coldblooded tone escape from his mouth.
"So... I will save you and give you back whatever freedom you lost... and also mine." He continued, reassuring the stars and himself.
"That is why I will become a Galaxy Diver. I will roam the cosmos and reach the top, I will witness the beauty of the universe and transcend mortal reach." He grip his fist tightly as his eyes fill with resolve began to turn for the worse, his bright blue eyes turning into a shade of dark blue colors as they begin losing all its bright luster.
"But I cannot do it alone... I need your help, your support. Will you help me... my friends?" He asked as he look at his only friends on the moon. No the galaxy— the universe.
The stars inert around the moon shine ever so brightly at his question. Adin Kosmas seeing this smiled and got up, stretching his scrawny, naked body filled with wounds caused by the aristocrat servants.
At a corner he saw a rusty old cloak in a pile of garbage. He went over there and covered his body with it. Soon he felt warm for the first time in 10 months.
A satisfied smile appear on his face, his dark-blue eyes cold as he look at the people around him with a heartless look.
Ever since that day. Adin Kosmas began working to becoming a Galaxy Diver.
