Reaching over the table, I grip her hand in mine and squeeze, hoping she feels my empathy. "Believe me, I understand your frustration. Once upon a time, I was in an arranged marriage too."
Her eyes go wide. "What happened?"
I wince. "Well, I ended up marrying the bastard."
She scoffs, but before she can say anything, I continue, "But that's not my point. It's that I understand how desperate you must feel. So I'll do whatever I can for you. If you think you need to run a business to delay it for as long as you can, I'm your girl. If you need to run, I'll help you escape. I'll do anything. You can count on me."
Her eyes water, but she doesn't let a single tear fall. She blinks it away and squeezes my hand. "Thank you, Gabby."
"That's what friends do."
"Hey, ladies."
We both look to the side to see Jax coming over. He's wearing his signature jeans and leather jacket attire. His blue eyes shine with mischief as he joins our small table.
