Mrs. Louise listened to the sound of the phone hanging up, her face growing increasingly embarrassed. She knew Cynthia was never going to obediently comply. But apart from Cynthia, no one else could convince Old Mr. Louise. Mrs. Louise's face darkened, her knuckles turning white as she tightly gripped her phone.
What had Cynthia done to Old Mr. Louise, she wondered, to make him prefer leaving his inheritance to an outsider rather than to them, his own family? She had heard Cynthia express high hopes for Joe, only to turn around and snatch the family's wealth as if it were nothing! Truly, the older he got, the more confused he became!
Her eyes narrowed, Mrs. Louise pondered for a long time before dialing Joe's number.
