Spirit guide

Everything turned red, a bright light shined beneath him. An altar appeared before him, before he could even realize it, he touched it. Green mist surrounded him and everything went dark, then white, and then nothing.

"You're going to be late." Lester's mom said waking him, he looked around sitting up in a panic realizing he was in his room.

"What a weird dream." He said flopping back down, a cold sweat on his head.

"You can think all about it later but for now you have to get ready, you've got no time to waste!" His mom exclaimed heading out of his room and towards the kitchen.

Everyone has a destiny but that doesn't always mean you'll always fulfill it, a spirit guides job is to make sure you do. You might get someone destined to open a shop, or help animals. You'd never know until you were assigned your destined. Today was the day Lester became an official spirit guide and got to be assigned his first destined, he'd been dreading it all year and was hoping that if he ignored it he might not have to do it. Sure he'd get to act all wise and mighty to his destined and it came with a bunch of other benefits , even so the life of helping others with little to no appreciation did not seem all that appealing to him. True you might have some good experiences along the way but you don't really get anything out of it until you get to your evolution cap. Lester came from a clan of kitsune which were assigned to be spirit guides, he had no choice in the matter since at least one clan from each species had to work as spirit guides. With each destined you successfully helped you gained more power, evolving as a spirit guide eventually being relieved of duty to live as you please or continuing to climb and try and become an immortal spirit.

"Almost ready?" His mom shouted from the kitchen, snapping Lester back to reality.

"Just give me a minute!" He shouted back. He scurried across the room trying to get ready. He put on a green shirt and a black leather tunic with some fairly basic brown pants. Spirit guides always had to wear something that fit the timeline humans were in.Their house had stone walls and wooden floor which didn't need to, but also fit the time. He dashed out of his room and through the halls.

"I'm heading out now!" He shouted to his mom, zooming past her and heading to the door.

"Good luck!" She said back, sitting down by the table. He knew this would probably be the last time he would see her for a few years, which wasn't a long time for kitsunes but he was sure he'd miss her. Lester dashed down the dirt road and towards the massive stone castle which, despite its towering appearance was truly a school, one which he wouldn't have to spend much time at, but preferred not to be late to as of now.
